Wow G, L must be massive! W is slightly under average. He looked tiny at kindy when he first started but a couple of smaller kids have started so he looks a bit more in proportion now. Now that I think of it he must not look too small because everyone keeps asking me when he is starting school and seem surprised when I say he isn't even 4 yet.
Yip, he wrote his whole name. He has been able to spell, read and type it and a few other words for ages but he won't attempt anything unless he knows he can do it right iykwim so he must feel confident enough in his letter writing to do it in front of me now.
Another 3am start to the day. Just awake and not tired. Do you think that it means anything that 3 out of the 4 times it has happened at home in the last 6 weeks it has been a Wednesday night? Might have to start a food diary for him.
Arte - have you tried to make him stay in bed and read books for those early starts? K sometimes wakes in the middle of the night and insists that she is not tired, but if I just give her a heap of books (and the hallway light on) I don't hear from her again - no idea how long it takes her to crash.
Trill - mini bags of popcorn, will have to keep an eye out. Finding the space for a popcorn maker is probably an issue in our kitchen though.
Cally, he won't stay in his room by himself once he is awake. I put the telly on and go back to bed but he usually comes in every half hour and asks if it is time for me to get up yet. I have tried to make him stay in bed and go back to sleep but that just ended up in several hours of tantrum.
Oddly enough, on the days after he has been up for half of the night he is noticeably better behaved!
Looks like the interest in anatomy has been dumped for volcano's instead. Not a strong point of mine - now youtube-ing plate tectonics to learn enough so I can explain it to him lol
He would understand the theory, but really what would he do in his room for hours? He wouldn't just lay in bed for hours waiting iykwim.
I suspect we just have to wait until he outgrows it or learns to read so he can entertain himself. I am just a bit over it. I must look so terrible that random mums at kindy that I barely know or talk to have offered to look after the kids so I can have a nap!
ok, this might sound like something bad to do BUT could you mebbe use the clock idea and have a portable DVD player beside his bed (that is so what i would be trying lol)
Dunno Cass. If we left something like that in there then all of the quick resettle wake ups would turn into all nighters because he would have something to do.
Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I'm just going to get zen, accept the reality and stop whinging about it. Sorry again for harping on about it.
Arte, I really think you should google "sleep" and "gifted children ". Ring any bells? I meant to reply to your post awhile back about A, I wanted to say, don't compare them because from what you've told us, W has been streets ahead of the average in terms of milestones, esp with his language and reasoning skills, for a long time. I'm not even sure if E even knows what a volcano is and she certainly wouldn't be asking probing 'why' questions about them.
haha! poor JM, i guess she is probably getting that all baby no belly feeling lol.
Arte: you gotta make the avvy's yourself these days then send it to a specific mod to upload it for you. cant remember who....oh but i also think there is a thread where some girls can make them for you....
today we went to healesville for a lunch and some browsing. hit the jackpot with a block and cart thingo for marta at an opp shop. went there today to have some time to have fun in the sun as it was exactly a year ago today that my Oma passed away, and i know that she would of loved that whole area out there...
If you ask Trill pretty please with a cherry on top when it's not semester time, she might make you a new one. She was resident avvie queen in here for a while. She made mine and I'm keeping it FOREVER because it's perfect!!!
Cass, sorry you have had to spend a whole year without your Oma
I think Trill made my current avvie. Might ask in the volunteer thread, I only need a couple of minor alterations.
MD and Trill, have you got this semesters results back yet?
Some ****head taught W how to read a clock and he helpfully pointed out it wasn't 8pm when I tried to put him to bed early. I was specifically not teaching him for that very reason!
Cass, sounds like it was the perfect way to spend your Oma's anniversary day. I'll bet she was there in the sunshine with you. xxx
Arte, bummer about DH being called away. I resent every single time when DH is away doing something interesting while I'm keeping the home fires burning. Good you've got a playdate to look forward too, it makes all the difference. No I'm still studying and will be for a while (am applying for a grade pending again), but that's ok.
Ginger is it still cold up on the mountain, or has it fined up now? I've been telling everyone in Adel about your snow because they've all being complaining about the cold but no one's got any snow to show for it! LOL Lovely that you've been spending time with JM. x
Cally how's your enforced long weekend going?
Is anyone else having a long weekend too? I"m supposed to be studying my butt off, but managed to spend some time at the shops this afternoon instead. Bought myself two pairs of DF shoes - basic black flats but a godsend because I have clothes I haven't been able to wear because I don't have the right shoes. No joy on the bra front thought, it's demoralising. New boob doesn't really fit into bras quite right. I need an underwear fitting intervention LOL.
Arte - I just change to clock to reflect the time that I want it to be
MD - Having a good weekend. It's pretty cool and a bit showery, but we've having fun inside. We did our usual walk out for brekkie this morning and then K and I ran home to miss the rain. Well, kind of ran, one of those runs where you have to sit for rests and have a quick swing while DH was catching up.
Melbourne was wonderful! But such a busy weekend! We got there at 4.30 Friday and had just enough time to get our rooms sorted (We stayed out at the urban Camp near the zoo so it was dorm style accomodation) and have pizza for tea then head to Eithad stadium to see the Bulldogs and St Kilda play. We were in the cheap seats for that one so we were sitting higher up than the top of the goal posts LOL. Then Saturday L and I headed off early to see the King Tut exhibition which was just amazing, it was totally mind blowing to think that some of the items he actually used while he was alive were right there in front of you. It was packed out though so it was a bit crappy at times when people wouldn't keep moving. Then after we saw the rest of the museum we had just enough time to get back out to camp and have an early dinner before heading into the MCG for L to play. That took a bit of mucking around to finally get organised. But this time we were right on the boundary and it was fantastic! It was Geelong and Hawthorn and it was a great game. When the boys had to go out and play at half time it was so exciting to see L run out onto the MCG to play! He was so excited and he even kicked a behind. I'll have to upload some of the pics to FB later on.
