Cass, you do what you can hey? It would have felt nice laying out in the sun though. Try to get him not to worry about her eating. I know it's an issue for her but really, they eat what they need to eat. I *know* A is well now and should be eating, and it's kinda infuriating that he wont eat much, but I guess he just doesn't need the food yet. It has made his scrawny bum feel worse though LOL. I'm expecting him to be back to himself within another day or so though.
Cass, I wouldn't mind if the kids didn't sleep if they were happy playing/chatting to themselves, but they are full of neediness and screaming all night. Mine are getting bored too because I can't do much with them atm. We only last a few minutes outside before A packs it in because I can't lift her in and out of the swing.
Ella, I am mildly terrified about having this next baby! It was just getting easier with the two being older, now we are back to the beginning :(
Trill, wonder what would qualify as major enough to get an extension from that lecturer? Seems pretty harsh! Sounds like your course is going really well :)
W did the bed thing to me the other night - he hasn't had an accident at night for months then the other night I went to put him to bed and it was late and I was really cranky and sure enough he had wet the bed and not told me. I am not sure how DH managed to lay in there for half an hour reading stories and not notice!

I meant to ask earlier, what type of birthday cakes are we all doing this year? I was going to do the layered rainbow cake, but for a spectacular result, the taste of it was pretty yuck. So I'm not doing it now. I thought about the lamington train from the old WW book, but do a ganache covered mudcake instead, but I'm not sure. We were going to have friends out for a BBQ lunch on the day as it is a Sunday so I wanted to put a bit of effort in ;)

i have no idea what cake I'm doing. i need some inspiration from you guys! i was thinking of just buying a lame ben 10 cake topper and chucking it on top of a chocolate cake. so lame though, but I'm sure L would think it was the best thing ever.
i am doing the WW ballerina cake for Leila and Marta will hopefully have a toadstool cake...but i need alot of goodluck for that one :rofl:
if it all goes pear shaped they are both just going to get a ganache cake with pretty toppers on it lol.

Trill, your cake looked fantastic even if it wasn't very tasty! You could do it with white mud cake mix and white ganache instead - that would taste good. I have done a rainbow white mud cake and it holds the colour well enough.
G, is it mechanically challenged or did it get dinged? Hope it is something cheap!
I am just doing mud cakes - they are the easiest cake imo and I don't want to commit a lot of time to them. I will just shove some icing and the dora and toy story toppers on them. I might get fancy and go round the edge with smarties. The kids will think they are great anyway. Maybe next year I will have more time to do something impressive, but then again with 3 at the same time....maybe not lol.
Man I am over A screaming at me! She wants me to sit on the couch holding her in a certain position and if I do anything else she follows me crying. Not going to go well with the new baby when she is still so babyish.
gosh, you are all so organised for your parties already!! but my daughter ended up being one of the last ones born out of the group (3rd Oct), so i guess i have a little more time... last year i just did her a #3 cake and decorated it nicely. the year before i did the train from the original WW cookbook (which took AGES, but looked fantastic). this year, i will have either just had the baby, or will be 2 wks overdue, so i suspect either way, their will not be much effort going into the cake!! she wants that awful cake from the WW cookbook with a doll stuck in an upturned bowl of icecream (to make it's skirt). it would be ridiculously easy, but oh so tacky!!! she may just get her way... maybe i will tell my DH that it's his job this year - he would probably outsource the job to his dad, who has been known to make a few kids birthday cakes over the years...
Cass - my BIL made the Toadstool for his daughter earlier this year (my sis was in hospital with a very premie baby), and it turned out really well - i'm sure yours will be even better!!
Trillian - what is a layered rainbow cake? do you dye each layer of sponge a different colour? do you stick them together with similarly-coloured icing? i am intrigued... my daughter is always telling me that "rainbow" is her favourite colour, and will not believe me that rainbow is NOT a colour!! sounds like the cake would be right up her alley... i don't know how you have time to be baking cakes though with 4 young kids and studying!!
Ginger - sorry to hear you're having car issues! i just got a new car recently. i loved my old car and really didn't want to get a new one, but i couldn't manage to squeeze three carseats in no matter how hard i tried!! i have now got a Honda Odyssey. it's black and my husband calls it "The Hearse"!! it is such a soccer-mum's car - my life has changed significantly - 5 years ago i was living on Chapel St in Melbourne and driving a 2-seater convertible sports car, and now i drive a people mover and sing along to The Wiggles as i'm sat at the traffic lights... ha ha!!
Arte - tell your DH that it is now his job to get up to the kids during the night. my DH has assumed the night-time carer role over the last few months (it started off because i was really debilitated by a bad back a few months ago, and although my back is a little better now, i haven't bother taking the role back again!!)... the kids even call out for daddy rather than mummy now - i LOVE it!! when the new baby comes, you'll be getting up to them anyway, but he can look after the 2 bigger ones!!
DH is due home in 15 mins and i haven't started the dinner - better get off the computer or he'll think i've been sitting around on my ar5e all day!!
btw, i have been meaning to comment Arte on how well-timed your pregnancies have been - perfectly evenly spaced!! mine are Oct 07, June 09 and now Sept or Oct 11. Although there is approx 2 yrs between each, there will only be a 1yr gap in school years between the first 2, and then a 3yr gap in school years between the 2nd and 3rd kids (Perth cut-off date for school is 30th June)... that was some bad planning on my behalf!!
Ella, I wouldn't be organized at all for the party if I wasn't due to have a baby the day before. Usually I am a leave it to the last minute kind of girl.
DH does all the DS wake ups, and last night he did half of the DD wake ups - if I get up too quickly I am sure my pelvis is going to fall off my spine! But then he is up 5-6 times and still has to go to work.
As for the spacing, it should be quite cool to have them all bunched up. We are going to have a family tradition of presents day for all of them and then on their actual birthday they get to choose their favorite dinner/takeaway and dessert, and have a cake.

Re cakes this year I am ordering an ice cream cake and decorating it with clown figurines (he is having a clown party). Ice cream cakes are all the rage with his kinder friends and that is so miuch easier for me given we will only get back 2 days before the party. He is such a luckyt boy - has his kinder bday day on thu (they do cake, sing happy bday etc) and then his ACTUAL bday in Hawaii and then his party when he gets back. he seems to think i am taking him volcano viewing in a helicopter for his actual bday. another think coming (though i am sure if he mentions it to my mum she will take him)!!!!
Cass - how are you feeling? I would have loved some time lying in the sunshine yesterdday. i spent most of the day doing some training as I am conducting some womens mentoring circles at work. nice to nurture some up and commers....
Ella - so lovely to have you back in the group - stay please!!!! DDs book sounds sooo cute! N has also learnt lots of those sorts of things and is astounding what he comes out with at the moment. MP - I'm doing a women's mentor program at work too, not having much luck finding a female engineer with sewer experience though to mentor me - being rural isn't helping. Still so jealous of Hawaii.
As for parties, still not sure what we're doing. Miss K has been invited to one on the 10th (hers is the 13th) so not sure to do another one the following week or what. She has only expressed a desire for two little friends and it seems such a lot of effort!!
Cally, take K and the two friends to the zoo/pool/playcentre or something - easy as! If she isn't itching for an actual party then don't worry about it :)
MP, a volcano helicopter ride would be awesome! My BIL flies helicopters at Franz Josef Glacier and we can have free rides, but we have never managed to get down there. I am sure having three kids will make it easier lol.

my car needs a new radiator. dh is buying one this arvo and will try to fit it tonight so i should be ok by tomorrow.
it seems that L is sick again! when will this ever end? he threw up all over my back and hair today. nice.

For DH's birthday I bought a vienna ice-cream and let the kids tip choc magic and sprinkles on it - they had a ball and it was the easiest cake ever! But for kids you can buy a tub of ice-cream and let them sculpt it into something themselves and add sprinkles and sauce - cheap, easy and fun!
I have been thinking of getting a new washing machine - ours is only a 5.5kg one and I end up doing lots more loads than I would need to if I had a bigger machine. But I think it might need to wait for a bit. The lawnmower packed in the other day and then the grill part of the microwave had a heap of smoke coming out of it the other night. Oddly I can buy a new Whirlpool crisp microwave here for $700, but you can buy them in Australia for $250 for the same model! I am thinking of getting my father to post one over because even after paying postage I would still save a few hundred dollars!
i am really really hoping that getting the tonsils out sorts him out a bit. he just doesn't look well at the moment and i seem to have him at the drs once a fortnight. it is doing my head in. i wish they would hurry up and offer him an operation!!!! my friend has PHI and her dd is getting done this week :(

Far out Arte that is expensive!!! The washing machine I used to have was only 4.5kg and OMG it took forever to get all the washing done once there was 6 of us. My advice to you would be to get as big as you can afford - I went to a 9.5kg one and now I can wash blankets and 2 single bed sheet sets at a time!
Ella, we looked at those cars years ago and a hearse crossed my mind too LOL. The cake is simple. I'll post a link to the one I made so you can see it. You need to buy the wiltons gel colours so you can get the really vibrant colours in the cake. All you do is buy a couple of packet mixes if you can't be bothered making a scratch cake, make it up, evenly divide into 6 bowls (or 7 if you are doing a proper rainbow LOL) and then mix in the colours. The longest part is the baking unless you have two tins the same size then you can do two at once. I only had one tin so it took nearly 2.5hrs to get all 6 layers made. I know other people have used foil pie plates, but I reckon they would be too hard to get the cake out of. Ella: that is a crack up about the car changes hahahaha! and oh so true lol. i now simply look longingly at my beautiful designer heel collection while slipping on one of my 100 pairs of 'mum' flats lol.
G: :crossfingers: that he gets a spot soon xx. it will make a huge difference. i had mine out 2 years ago and only just got sick now (and i am an old fart lol). so i am sure that with youth on his side he will build great health and strength.
it is a bummer having to wait for a spot though :(. it was a roughly 6 month wait wasnt it? like i mentioned we went private in the end (i was just way too ill to wait :() and had to spend $1500 all up (incl. hossy stay etc). i think we got some back as we were over the medicare medical threshold...but yeah, it is alot of $$ for something that really should be covered by the public system (because in theory it is!).

The womens mentoring program thingy sounds interesting. i am just starting to get involved in women's issues as i have a meeting with the UN commissioner for women in a couple of weeks. i am hoping to extend myself into the field of human trafficking prevention and slavery...a light and fanciful topic lol.

AFM: feeling heaps better again today :dance: my legs are still bonkers, but HUGE improvement. the only real issue is Leila. she is really lashing out ATM. aggressive, angry, hysterically sad. i am at a bit of a loss with her TBH. i will post a thread somewhere on here tonight when i have time as i am not quite sure how to approach it ITMS. i know that she got bullied fairly badly the other day at a playground and she was quite disturbed by it. so i dont know...
