mumsicles huh? will have to check that out when I get a couple spare minutes.
So tomorrow is the heart specialist appointment for A. Praying it's not her heart. DH has really been beating himself up about it. Blaming himself and the like and we don't even know yet if that is what is wrong. If it is it will kill him
Dr Tal: I hope it's not her heart, however it's no-ones fault if it is :-( Tell your DH he can't help having it, it's not his fault, it's no one's fault. Though I'm sure you have been reassuring him that you don't blame him :-)
Dr Tal good luck today my prays are with you that it's not the heart. Hubbies tend to take things harder when something happens I'm sure that with time he will realise its not his fault if it's a heart issue
Shadow had a look at that website what a great idea even using the yoghurt etc down the track
P I know others have said it but I'll say it too you have been amazing with Thor he is lucky to have such a strong and determined mum
AFU well G has cracked the 5kg mark and started sleeping for most of the night just waking for a small top up so I can't complain that she only has little cat naps during the day. I've just figured out that I can use my carrier as a sling so I'll be giving that a go to get more done when she's awake. Been out to a few functions with DH and had mum babysit her and G is happy with granma. Still have massive MIL issues but can't be stuffed ranting about the cow at the moment but basically she visits once a fortnight and expects to find G awake etc and ready for her then sooks like a baby when she can't hold her etc Grrr that's just the start of her issues
Dr. Tal do you know what your DHs condition is called? My DH has a mitral valve defect which is hereditary (MIL has it and her father passed away because of it) but DHs condition isn't as severe as the others. So far we have been lucky and none of my littlies seem to show signs of it, but then again DHs condition wasn't picked up until puberty.
My point in all of that is I hope that if it is miss A's heart that it will only be a mild form.
Cool idea shadow thanks for sharing!
AFU
Interesting week here. Have been run off my feet the last 2 weeks taxiing the family from one appointment to another. Then one Tuesday my 2yo niece had an accident and took the top off her big toe. She is doing ok. They did surgery with skin grafts (they couldn't re-attach the toe) and she has the stay off her feet for a while (very hard for a 2yo)
Kayden is finally giving real smiles and sometimes even giggles, though he still seems to be a fairly serious baby. Anyway gotta run- kids school time.
shadow - I've told DH that many times that even if she does have it it's not his fault. But he'll still blame himself. He good at guilting himself.
Terry - I think you are right about men taking things harder. They seem to blame themselves more for some reason. As if they think there should have been something they could do to stop it.
chrispe - DH has Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. He basically has an abnormal extra electrical pathway in his heart. This will short circuit from time to time and cause his heart to beat really fast, and if it goes on for long enough will throw him into a heart attack. And the more times it short circuits the more likely it will be to do it again so it will happen more frequently ITMS. It's not usually heredetary, but it there is a form of it that is. DH didn't know he had it till he was in his mid twenties when he had his first episode with it. Because he didn't know what it was he didn't do anything about it when his heart first started to palpitate and he ended up having a heart attack. There is an operation which can be done to burn out the extra node, but in DH's case the extra node is too close to his normal node, and there's only a 5% chance that the node he is suppose to have won't get damaged in the operation, and if that was damaged he'd have to have a pace maker put it.
I hope your neice is doing okay and it's not been too hard to keep her off her feet. That would have been so painful for her.
AFM - am trying to pass the time until A's appointment at 10. This day has just been creeping by.
On a completely different note. A's started to smile a lot. She smiled for the first time a couple weeks ago, but didn't do it very often. She now smiles all the time. Mainly at DH or DS. DS is so funny with her, he gets so excited when she smiles at him and has to come and tell one of us, then make her smile again, as if we wouldn't beleive him if we didn't see it She's also started to coo a bit when she smiles, but so far no giggles or squeals. I'm looking forward to the first time she squeals or giggles at DS. He'll get so excited about it.
Tal, am thinking of you today. Praying the little might is a-ok. How sweet that she has been smiling at her big brother
Terry sometimes in laws are bizarre! My BIL still hasn't seen Jack yet. He lives 15 minutes away too. What kind of carrier do you have?
Chrispe how on earth did she manage that?!
Hope everyone else is doing good. We are so quiet in here compared to pregnancy thread!!
AFU Jack is sleeping better most nights. He doesn't usually nod off till anywhere between 10pm and midnight, but only wakes up once for a feed. Still having a few bad nights here and there. I think the poor boy struggles to pooh and fart (colic??) as he cries every time. So I rub his little tummy which he seems to like. He's started smiling at me, DH, nanna and pop (my parents) and the paint on the walls LOL. SIL said she thinks babies see angels, lovely explanation over smiling and cracking it at the wall.
Dr tal, I really hope things go/went well today. I think my Dad has had an episode of something jsut like that. They said it's not genetic, but My Dp is the same with your DH as far as taking things to heart goes. He has a congenital hip problem which he's really hoping Thor hasn't got... Thor's far more likely to get my genetic eczema and asthma, and my really bad myopia!
Terry, my ILs are a bit odd as well. None of DPs siblings have met Thor, yet, and it took 3 weeks before his mother, ie, Thor's grandmother, found time to meet her very first grandson! Thanks goodness when she did, she was loving and non-judgemental and very, very excited!c
Chrispe, your poor niece!
Lady_neon, I love the angels explanation! Having said that, I haven't seen Thor smile at anything except for people. He's even grinned for his paediatrician, at 4 1/2 weeks!
Shadow, I love the mumsicles idea, but I don't make enough milk for that.
AFU, things are going well. Thor still chucks up heaps, and often, ang DP was sick of getting spew on every t-shirt... so he asked me to make him a daddy-bib. I cut a bath towel in half, and cut a hole near one edge for his head. DP wears it t do Thor's bottle feeds and for as long as they're playing together afterwards. Need I say I chose an old, pink, flower-patterned towel?!
GREAT NEWS at this point. Heart specialist ran a bazillion tests on DD and at this point in time is positive the cough is not heart related. That having been said he said that WPW is often not detectable until after the first occurance So he does want us to come back with her at 6 months, then again at 2 years etc.. to do an ecg on her until he's confident she's in the clear. We also have to bring DS back as he wants to run him through as well just in case. Which I'm ok with. I'd rather know and be able to do something about it then for it to sneak up on us IYKWIM. His concern comes from this history of heart problems in DH's family. His grandfather had some sort of heart palpitation condition as did grandfathers two sisters. One had heart palpitations her whole life and the other died of a heart attack in her mid thrities. His Uncle has on-going heart issues and his mother had a heart attack in her late 40's.
We have another appointment with the paed now though tomorrow. As he's still not sure he likes the asthma explination for her cough. He says that too many doctors just lump a whole heap of things into the 'asthma' category becaue it's easier then finding out what's really going on. He said the coughing so much she spews really just doesn't strike him as 'asthma-y' and where I have a lot of allergies and was sick a lot as a youngster he wants to rule out a couple other things first.
So good news, but still don't know what is causing her cough. But I'm happy that the paed wants to explore that further (and quite in depth too from the sounds of it).
Pholi - had to laugh at you making your DP a spew bib from a pink flower patterned towel. That's so something I'd do Bahahaha
Lady N Pholi and Terry - I hear you on the whole in-law thing. My MIL is still just as whacko as ever. I just can't understand some people. I would think a new born of all things would bridge some of the issues, but apparently with some people even that won't make them get over themselves
Lady N - I have a friend that also says young children can see angels/ghosts and often will smile and talk to them.
Mum2C's hope you're feeling better soon and that your two littlies don't catch it from you.
Dr Tal, It's great that it isn't the heart thing - at least at this stage. I'd be very reassured taht the paed wants to keep investigating rather than just write it up as asthma straight away.
Just an FYI for the rest of you ladies and something to make you laugh.
Made three mumcicles yesterday morning. Of course didn't tell dh this. Why would I (I think you can see where this is going
Got up with A last night for a feed and there's dh stuck into one he asks me what dud you make this out of. I can't place the flavour. You should have seen the look on his face when I said they were mumcicles for the kids. First confusion. Then slow comprehensio, then complete shock
So if any of you other ladies make them, it might be a good idea to let your significant others/older children know. Bahahaha
Dr Tal-that's great news. Lol about the mumsicles.
Hello everyone else.
AFU-we are good. Amelia had her hearing screen yesterday. I didn't even want it done but they basically stalked me until I said yes. I had a bad feeling about it and then poor A had an allergic reaction to the adhesives on the back of the electrodes. They want me to try again. NOT HAPPENING. As if I would put her through that again when I can see she is allergic like her daddy.
