Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I'm so glad you found that clarity Williever, Tegam's advice was so perfect! It had the same effect on me but my answer was the other one. You sound at peace with your decision and mummy at peace is way more important to your baby than anything else.
Lol at poo-narmie! I've never heard that before, much better than poo-splosion which btw we had on Thursday :p

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
We had our first poo-narmie with our first car ride. We has always called it the prime poop'n position :)
I'm glad my advice was ok. What's the point doing this mothering so many times if I can't learn something along the way ;)

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Yep it was in the car Tegam!!

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Williever I'm glad you have made a decision and sound at peace with it. You gave bf a really good chance, and all the breastmilk you've given is sure to have benefited her :) I really understand it's different with a toddler, you need to find a balance. And ff babies turn out just fine as you know with your ds!
I think we're just missing lady-bug on fb?
I'm just so tired! I know it's expected for a mother of a newborn but still...

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
In hospital. Appendicitis. :( Feel like poo. Just lucky bubby is allowed to stay with me. Surgery tomorrow. At least some time to pump some milk for her...
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh crap Raupe! Hope the surgery goes well and you recover quickly. So glad you can have bub with you too. Best of luck tomorrow :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh no Raupe :( What bad timing! Hope things go smoothly tomorrow and you're back home with your bubba soon.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Thanks ladies. Tried to pump. They only have a ****ty hand pump. Took me 1 hour to express 70ml. Sigh... ah well

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Sorry Raupe. That is rubbish!

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
It would seem that little mans compromise for 3x 4hr stretches at night would be 4hr feeds thru the day :) or maybe he just knows that I have stuff I want to do today. DH away in Bangkok and school back tomorrow. Need to get some lunch box cooking done and find everything for school!! But no we've been on off feeding now since he woke at 7am. Little monster. Oh and the piano teacher will be at my door at 7am ahhhhh welcome back to reality tegam

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
No idea but they sure do know
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh Raupe I'm sorry to hear you are so unwell. Good luck for your surgery.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
My theory is they sense your attention is on something other than them and in an instinctive act of self preservation they remind you who the most important person in the world is!

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Hope everything went smoothly today Raupe and you are back with bubby...

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Doing ok. Surgery went well, but I felt like poo afterwards. Sooo much pain. Thankfully that's getting better now. But the nausea... oh my. Been feeling like throwing up all day. Have not been able to eat anything. They tried various different drugs to stop it. I think they have finally found something that's working... fx
Bubby and hubby stayed with me the whole time (apart from surgery of course).
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Hopefully the medicine keeps working and you wake up feeling heaps better, ready for a big brekky! Get a good night's sleep Raupe :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Glad the surgery went well and the pain/nausea is improving. Great that hubby and bubby could stay with you! Rest up xx
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Hope you're feeling better today Raupe.
David slept 7.5 hours last night & then had a bottle & burp & has gone back to sleep in my arms at the kitchen table. Lol
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Wow Kalina. Not bad :)
Raupe how are you

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Getting better, but still in a lot of pain. Just arrived home. Have to put bub on formula for 2 days while the anesthesia wears off. So I have to pump and dump until I get rid of those drugs and all the pain meds/antibiotics out of my system. :( Not happy, but not much I can do since I haven't got a big enough stash to see us through... Always meant to store some ebm, but since the oversupply I didn't want to pump yet. Also I thought I had more time. I'm just a bit emotional about it. Bubby seems ok with it, but I'm struggling. She smells so different now. Not sure why, but somehow it bothers/unsettles me. She smells like her cousin Penny, not like my little Milly-button :(
Sorry, I'm ouchy and emotional and weird....
Btw pumping is poo

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
I'm sorry you have to interrupt your breastfeeding, it is heartbreaking in a way only a mother can understand and I know what you mean about the smell... I'm not going to be all logical here, you've probably heard it all and it doesn't matter. When your baby is being fed by formula and not your precious breast milk it is really upsetting. Just know that you are not alone in feeling this way. And yes, pumping is poo!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Raupe, there is a man, Rodney White who works at monash hospital melbourne whom you can ring as ask about medication and breastfeeding, he'll tell you if you need to dump or not. Will see if I can get the number for you.

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Raupe I agree with olive, I think it's worth the call. There are really very few anaesthetics and pain medications you can't have while breast feeding. Hugs and yes pumping and pain are poo! Also know that Molly will smell like her old self once you start feeding again.
-
Thanks guys. Spoke to the head of anesthesiology (or whatever it's called) and he said that in theory you *could* feed after the anesthesia, but there will be a small amount passed to bubs. Not dangerous, but it will make her sleepy. He said (having 3 kids himself) he personally would pump amd dump for 24hours to make sure it's out of the body. But it's personal preference. Formula vs small amount of drug. I decided I feel 'safer' using formula. Plus the pain meds were quite strong, but same recommendation: not dangerous, but some will end up in the milk. So again weigh up your options...
Tonight is the last night of formula. Tomorrow she's back on the booby.
Btw she still hasn't pood since she's been on formula (almost 24 hours). Normally she poos all the time! I'm a bit worried... Is she gonna be constipated? :(
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Lachlan doesn't poo anywhere near as often as other babies in our group, I think because he has majority formula. Not constipated though. She'll be ok for a day ;)
It's good you were able to call and get that info, I've been surprised what medication they've said I'm able to breastfeed with. I'd probably be a bit nervous about the anesthesia too. I wish you could buy small tins of formula for times like this though, such a waste getting a large tin for a day!
-
Thanks Eivie. We borrowed a tin from SIL, so didn't have to buy one. Aparently you can buy small satchets from the chemist, but of course we needed it on a Sunday night/public holiday Monday morning. So no chemist around us were open... Just lucky SIL has a newborn, too.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Good to know about the sachets!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Glad you're home now and that bubs is back on boob today! They do smell different when on formula. How are you feeling? I have more than half a can formula left too from when we were topping up, such a waste it's going to be binned.
Well ds doesn't sleep now until maybe 3am :( It's so frustrating cos I'm just so tired. He feeds, then might doze in my arms but can't be put in the cot!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Same here Cattie! DD broke me last night. No cot or bassinet until 3;30. We are both still in our pjs. Having cuddles on the couch now.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Must have been the night for it! At 2am I was so exhausted I handed him to dh and said 'you're on the night shift'. Dh tried to put him down at 3 - fail. Not sure when they went to bed but when I woke up with a leaking boob for the first time (yay motilium!) I had to wake him for a feed lol.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Hugs Raupe, hope your feeling better soon and glad bubs is back on the boob today.
We had witching hour bad last night! Sometimes I really dread night time [emoji45]
It was a feeding fest here last night too. Tired mumma today!!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014
Oh I totally dread night time. It's the worst. DS2 will only sleep in my arms. Not what I wanted to do but hey if it means I get more than 2 hours sleep at a time then I'm gonna take it :-)
