Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014

Oh Kalina, I hope David is well on the mend and he can come home tomorrow. I can't imagine how scary that would have been for you!

We've been okay. Took me long enough to find this thread! I wish I'd found it sooner, it would have been reassuring hearing of all your BF starting stories. My milk came in yesterday and my nipples were burning like razors cutting them. I was completely engorged despite Zen feeding every 2-3 hours (although I know the more they feed the more you make) and I came over all feverish and flu like. My mw was concerned I had an infection or mastitis but overnight things improved.

I'm getting used to the lack of sleep as one wise mother told me when I had DS1 you don't catch up sleep you just get used to not having it. I'm even pool with being up for hours in the middle of the night. DP say my bedroom up with an armchair to feed (can't sit up in bed due to birth injuries) and I have a tv and hard drive to distract myself and a heater. Not bad.

Physically that labor really screwed with me. My left hips is screwed, during the second stage I felt like my leg was going to fall off from the hip, it hurt more than pushing! So now I can't lay down without pain and is worse first thing in the morning. But chiro next week should help. I tore in the same spot as last time only tore a little more so have stitches. And a lovely giant hemorrhoid which feels like the size of a tennis ball lol. but that's about it.

I feel slow to recover this time around but I've got nothing more to do than be a mum and I'm cool with that.

Zen is very different to DS1, he is a lot more chilled and settled. Feeding has been quicker and more successful this time around which is a relief.

Baby Blues hit yesterday big time. I'm trying my hardest not to absolutely hate DP most of the time (he thinks now is the best time to paint or new deck rather than be with DS1 so I can rest) but I have loads of family support so that makes up for it.

Anyways, rambling now! Hope you are all well!

Welcome to the new thread Phyrephly! I'm sorry to hear about your hip, it sounds painful...

Zen sounds like he's living up to his name, hopefully he continues to be a relaxed peaceful baby

    Babies Born ~ September 2014

They've just found E. coli in his urine screen & they want to do an ultrasound & more bloods tomorrow to check his kidneys. They are also starting him back on oral antibiotics. How can my baby be so sick & yet seem so healthy?! I want to wrap him up, take him home & never leave the house again
Sorry, I've been ignoring everyone else's posts.
Eta they also think he has oral thrush as he's got a couple of little white spots on the roof of his mouth.

Poor little David is having a challenging time well done for noticing his temperature and getting him to the hospital, it sounds like this could have gotten very scary if it had been undetected for a while. He is in the right place to get the help he needs because of you - you ARE keeping him safe!

Oh kalina, eivie is so right, you have kept him safe by being on the ball and getting help sooner rather than later. It must be so scary and feel so helpless having him being tested and poked and prodded. I really hope the worse is over and you can get him home and enjoy his squishiness xx

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014

Thanks for the intro tegam! I'm waiting for bubby to wake for a feed with not enough time to nap and no one to watch him while I shower so I thought good time to hunt down this thread

Sorry to hear about David, must be sooo hard seeing them sick while so little As everyone else said good on you for picking it up early and getting him in for the best care you can.

Phy that's something my dh would do, use the 'holiday' to catch up on things to do rather than help with the kids! Hope your hip heals soon, sounds hard to deal with when you can't just rest.

Hi everyone else, hard to see and reply more posts on phone!

We're doing well, I'm worried bubby isn't getting enough food but it seems a bit early to ask for formula. My milk took about a week to come in with dd so I'm not expecting it to be quick... but he seems to be latching and sucking well! Still at hospital until Thursday.

Welcome Cattie, hope you're enjoying those newborn cuddles . Don't worry about if bub is getting enough, their tummies are so tiny at first, only the size of a marble they said at our parenting class.

On the subject of bub getting enough food, today was a good day for us - Lachlan has gotten back up to his birth weight! It's been difficult with the 3hr mixed feeding schedule but it's great to see him doing so well. My milk has doubled or tripled in the past few days and I am confident that we won't need to keep feeding him formula much longer... I'm off to express again!

    Hope everyone is doing well

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014

Welcome Cattie! Bring on the milks! But yeah that can take a while can't it. I think mine is in and has evened out. With DS1 it took over a week and I was hand expressing colostrum into syringes. It was a bit more straight forward this time.

Great news eivie! That's an awesome commitment to getting your supply up :-) go Lachlan!

Today we have our first outing and I'm leaving the house for the first time in a week. We are going to hospital for the hearing test. DP does not want to go and wants to go off getting pays for his ute. Have I mentioned how I'm trying really hard not to hate him?! I need his help today as last night was crap with DS1 having tantrums for a few hours. I'm exhausted. DP also is trying to go to a friends to help him move engines so I'm having to negotiate with him to go on a day that I don't need as much help with the kids. He is on paternity leave, not let's-get-out-of-the-house-and-do-what-I-want leave. Whinge over.

Phyrephly it sounds like you have every right to be angry with him, that's just not on! My dh was under the impression he would have time to renovate etc on his 'time off' and I let him believe that... Thankfully he's stepped up as soon as he saw the reality of life with a newborn, especially with our demanding feeding schedule. I certainly would not have coped with doing it all myself. I feel for you and I know from experience how much harder it is when you have a lot of pain... Grow up Phyrephly's dp!

Re: Babies Born ~ September 2014

Phy that is unbelievable hard and an unfair situation. The only thing that got be through DHs training and doing it all on my own for so many months was the fact that I knew how well he would look after me and us once the baby was here! He is doing some gardening now and some catch up with friends but he is always asking if I'm ok or if there is anything I need done first. Once the baby comes he will stay so close. Hugs.

Honestly I just want him to go back to work so I can get on with things. My work friends have left themselves at my disposal so I have woman support. He goes back on wednesday next week...

I'll stop ignoring everyone now....WE ARE HOME! We got home today with a weeks worth of antibiotics & a follow up appointment with the paediatric team in 4 weeks time. It's so nice to be home & I'm glad that he's well again. He's already pretty much settled back into his routine perfectly
