Hey Sal, thanks for the suggestion. He has had teeth come through in the last few weeks but he was irritable for quite some time before that so maybe that's how it all started. He doesn't seem to be in any of that kind of discomfort at the moment. He stopped sleeping long stretches 2-3 months ago now. So yeah, I'm totally exhausted!

Emma - Just curious about how many times a day you give T solids and how much each time? B's eating habits go something like this. 5:30am both boobs, 6:30 breakfast (about 2 tablespoons), 7:15 both boobs, 9 morning tea (about 2 tablespoons) 11:30 lunch (3-4 Tablespoons) lunch milk bar (aka boobs, both sides) 12:15, 3 afternoon tea (2 tablesppons), 4:45 dinner milk bar (both sides), 5:30 dinner (3-4 tablespoons), 7:30 milk bar (both sides) and snacks from mum and dad's dinner plates, 8:30 bedtime feed (both sides), then he may or may not wake up at 1am for another feed.

When it's written out like that B is a guts I know the carers at daycare have all commented on what a healthy appetite he has, but you don't realise how much they actually eat until you write it all out like that....huh.

I was just wondering if maybe he was drinking less during the day because he was replacing the feed with solids, so that might be why he seems to want more BF during the night then during the day. I know B dropped a couple of feeds during the day (not that it sounds like it when you see his habits above ) when I started to give him solids.

lise - glad to hear your nipple is feeling better. Hopefully it will be all cleared up by no and you won't have any more episodes like that again. Sounds less then pleasant!
B was feeling well enough for his swim lesson..he LOVED IT will write more about that below!

Owens - it's a shame you didn't get posted to Townsville...we could have met up!

Sal, SB, OP, delph and M2A hope you are all doing well

AFU - as I mentioned earlier B has his swim lesson on Saturday and he LOVED it. There were 2 other babies in his group and neither of them seemed too impressed to be in the water, but as soon as B got in he was kicking and splashing and giggling and having a great time (maybe something to do with me encouraging him to splash when in the bathtub ) At B's age they are really just teaching them to get use to being in the water, so they have you hold them on their belly and move them through the water, then on their back and move them through the water while you are making their legs kick. They poured water over his head, in preparation for him going under so I'd say to him "ok B one, two, three go" then pour the water over his head. Then we put them up to the edge of the pool and encouraged them to hold on and then helped them 'climb' up the side. The theory being that if they fell in the pool they'd know to hold onto the side. And we played lots of games and sang songs that encouraged them to kick and splash, again in preparation for swimming later on.

I am going to try to post a few pictures of him in the pool on my photobucket account tonight if anyone is interested.

Emma - I am absolutely no help with eating / feeding schedule as ours is ALL over the place. Which could be why A doesn't sleep all night! :/

Dr Tal - I salute you for your effort in having that routine , that's amazing !

Routine was such a big thing for me when I had Jacob and especially when the twins came along. Now J is at school and we have swimming, dancing and football- trying to to exercise, cook, clean and just get out of the house occasionally seems to get in the way of a routine with Annabelle. When I look at it like that, I think i'm really lucky A is such a good baby because her routine is basically being dragged along with me, wherever that may be!!!! Oh dear, maybe I need to take a look at that

Hi ladies, great news - I have just heard from Dr Tal - she and her family are ok, minimal damage to their house and property thank God. Mobile and broadband she says is patchy so she probably won't be on for a while!

Hi ladies, just realized there's been all this activity - I hadn't received an email about a new post for a while so logged on to check. Glad I did!

Delph - congratulations! Well done you. I was curious about exactly what you meant when you mentioned something about having second thoughts about another one so soon when Gumnut's second lot of teeth were coming through! I just cannot imagine being pregnant again already. WAY too soon for me! I'm thinking I want to go back to my beloved trampolining in second term this year then at least see the year out! Hopefully get back into shape a bit. And then MAYBE think about it! Though I can imagine it would be nice to have the kids close together in age so it's not such a big deal for big sibling to play with little sibling!

I've forgotten, did you find out whether you were having a boy or girl with Gumnut? Will you this time? So exciting.

Owens - I wonder if it is the lack of routine for A that results in the night waking. You'd think with all the activity going on in her day she'd be ready for a good night's sleep!

Dr Tal - I had been wondering how you faired the storm. Glad OP can report you guys are fine and so is your property.

I'm amazed at how much B eats! And starting to worry that I'm starving T! Let me think... Our routine is something like this. I'll start with night time because we actually consciously have a routine then. It's what we aim for anyway. 5.30pm - 6pm most evenings DH or I or both of us take T for a walk in his stroller. 6pm (ish) we either give him food off our plates if our dinner is ready, or give him some steamed veges of his own if it's not. 6.15 (ish) we either give him a bath or take him into the shower with one of us. 6.30pm (ish) play on the bed, read a book. 6.45pm - breastfeed to sleep or until giving signs he's ready to sleep but not feed to sleep. This can take up to an hour. Transfer to cot or stay in bed if I'm going to bed super early. Then he'll feed any number of times during the night! After the first feed he stays in bed with me, and then after 2.30am I swap with DH so he can put a dummy in his mouth when he starts to wake up and I can try and get more than about an hour of sleep at a time. He'll get up between 5 and 6.30am and this is where routine falls apart. This morning he had a BF, but most days he isn't interested for a few hours. Though he's very interested in having some of my toast at breakfast. I have been giving him a quarter of a piece of jam or vegemite toast (very lightly spread) the last few days which he loves. Basically the rest of the day is trying to BF him and generally failing, giving him a few tidbits of food whenever I eat and some fruit for afternoon tea.

Had day care again yesterday. He actually BF at around 7am then was ready at about 1pm for his next one I think. He'd had some lunch at day care by then, and afterwards he had some custard for afternoon tea.

Sorry about the long post, hope I haven't bored anyone to tears! Hi OP and anyone else lurking.

    Hey all!
With any luck my internet won't cut out on me until I am finished writing. The connection has been pretty shocking!

Thankyou so much to everyone for all your thoughts and prayers. It was a pretty crazy 24 hours. Amazing in a really scary sort of way ITMS.

Emma - I new B ate a lot but I never actually realised how much either until I saw it written out like that.

Sounds like you have a pretty good bedtime routine worked out for T. I really hope you'll be able to figure out T's nighttime eating/sleeping thing before too much longer so that you'll be able to finally get a decent nights sleep.

Owens - I hope that your friends fared as well as we did in the storm and that they had minimal if any property damage.

OP - Thank you so much for posting for me. I still had your number after the BA's and I was hoping you wouldn't mind.

    Sal - Thanks :hugs:

Delpg - WOW!! CONGRATULATIONS!! That is super exciting! I had thought a couple of the comments you had made earlier were a bit odd, but just shrugged them off. But now I know you were just being secret squirrel about cookie (I'm pretty sure that's what your signature said you were calling bun #2??)

AFU - What a crazy week it's been. Tuesday was hectic at work as every cyclone update saw Yasi move further and further south, and consequently closer and closer to us. I work at Council, so everyone was crazily racing around trying to enact all the disaster management planning. Then after work I raced off to pick B up from daycare, and even though we had our cyclone kit all ready with everything in it I started to worry that I didn't have enough food for B. So I raced into the supermarket and it was CRAZY BUSY and bought a whole heap more rafferty's garden packets. Then got home and made sure all the gerry cans were filled with fuel for the generator. DH had taken care of that thankfully. Raced around the garden picking all the ripe pumpkins, passionfruit and pomegranites. Caught my quail and put them into a cage I could move inside. Tried very unsuccessfully to catch my ringnecks which were in the outside avery (thankfully DH was able to catch them. Moved my ****ateils away from the window.

Wed morning saw me racing around the yard making sure there was nothing we'd missed in the clean up a couple weekends before that could be turned into a projectile flying object. I just kept cheking things over and over again. Then I unplugged everything in the house except the fishtank pumps, covered all the fishtanks with towels and put mattresses in front of my two big ones, then DH, B and the dogs all piled into the car with our supplies and headed over to FIL's (poppy) house. Our house has a bit of termite damage so despite the fact it made it through Althea in the 70's we weren't quite sure how it would go in this one.

Wed morning it was earily still...and sunny. Then around 8 we got a bit of a breeze and the wind gradually picked up and the clouds moved in and by noon it was blowing a gale. poppy was busily cooking away so we could have a proper cooked meal if/when the power went out and then it was just a waiting game. Watching TV jumping between Cairns, Townsville and Innisfail as the wind and then the rain gradually got heavier and heavier. B and the dogs were surprisingly calm. Probably in part due to how sound proof FIL's house was. Honestly, through the whole storm we hardly heard a thing except the rain buffeting against the garage doors, and we wouldn't have even heard that if we'd closed the door into the garage, but when you looked outside it was a different story (our neighbours said it the wind roaring down our road was just like a wind tunnel and that it sounded like a jet engine ). We watched the neighbours fence get torn apart. A tree fall across the street, just barely missing the house, and occasionally you'd see a small bit of branch or metal or various objects just fly by. I took B into Poppy's room about 9 and laid on the bed with him and I was out. Woke up just as the eye hit the coast to pitch black. DH says we lost power just as I went into the bedroom. The rest of the night went so slow, we didn't know what was happening elsewhere as the radio tower near us must have gotten knocked out as well and we could barely hear the radio, it was all scratchy and fuzzy.

Thursday morning seemed like it took ages to get here. Poppy turned on a little gas burner int he garage and made us coffee/tea and cooked up some bacon and eggs. By about 10 the winds had calmed down enough for DH to venture to our house and see how we fared. He made me stay at poppy's with B. I think he was afraid of what we'd find and didn't want me to see my birds or fishtanks if they'd not made it. He came back about 45 minutes later. House was intact. All the birds were safe and sounds, fish were fine, bit of water (okay A LOT of water) on the bathroom floor as one of the windows had broken. Our front awning was in our spa,my little neem tree had been uprooted and way laying on it's side, my other neem tree was holding up the neighbours fence, our fence was leaning at a weird angle, but apart from that nothing was damaged. DH started up the generator, I plugged in all my fish tank pumps, then the big fridge, then decided to see what else it could manage, so plugged in the little freezer, and a fan. We put everything we could from our chest freezer into the little freezer and our fridge, but still lost probably close to a pig and beast worth of meat...could have been a lot worse though.

On a completely different note. B is pulling himself up to standing now. He was trying to do it almost as soon as he started to crawl properly, but he's got it down to a fine art form now, and thinks he's VERY clever. He even pulls himself up on things then tries to push them/walk around. Try being the operative word as he usually ends with a fall knocking his head on the floor (if DH or myself aren't quick enough) and then crying, but I suspect in frustration more then hurt.

Quick post! HI everyone, hope you're all well!
Dr Tal, so glad you are all safe and ok after Yasi. Our friends were similar to you, lots of debris , trees, bushes in their pool, but not too much damage.

Yay for B pulling himself up

Emma jane - I don't know what it is with the night waking, as my older three had very good routines and they are terrible sleepers so who knows (hands up in the air!?). I was a bad sleeper as a child , maybe I passed it on!

Argh!!! Travis has been waking up every 20 minutes since 9pm and now he won't stop crying unless we're holding him and moving. I guess it's teething? But we can't find the baby panadol and there's nowhere in this crappy city that sells it at this time of night. Where oh where did I put it? I can find the syringe thing, but I haven't been able to find the bottle for ages and forgot to get more from the shops. DH is holding him at the moment but I can't sleep while I know they're awake.

    Hey guys,

Emma, I feel for you hun! X has been pretty average overnight recently, I'm thinking maybe teeth, maybe crawling? You never really know until after and then you go "ahh, that's what was going on!"

Anyways sounds like you guys are doing it a little tough at the moment I hope T settles a bit for you soon - the sleep deprivation is shocking, isn't it? I got X down last night at 10.30, then in bed myself by 11, then up with my DD at 2, 3.30 and 4, then X awake from 4.30 til 6, then DD woke at 6.30, I snuggled her up to me in bed and slept another hour, then all up. Sigh! I don't know what was up (is up) with my DD ATM, all I know us her sleep is pretty bleh too. So not a happy house here!

It's great that your DH can help out a bit overnight, I know its not easy to go to sleep while T is with him, I'm the same, but at least you can rest and relax and have a break!

If it's any consolation, my DD (who was a bad sleeper, generally now she sleeps all night, don't know why she's been waking recently) improved greatly between six and twelve months. She stopped feeding so much overnight and by probably 9 or 10mths was going to bed at 7pm and not waking til 6 or so. So possibly things may start to improve! Fingers crossed anyway!

Dr T - no worries, like I said I'd been wondering how you were going and was thrilled to get your message! Glad to year all your pets came through ok and only minimal damage to your property, fantastic. Sounds like you were well prepared and well looked after at your poppy's house! Are things slowly returning to normal up there?

Also can't believe B is pulling himself up onto things!!! X is only just starting to crawl! He's an adventurer, your boy!

Delph - how are you going Hun?? Feeling ok I hope?

Owens - you're not having much luck in the sleep department either by the sounds of it!!

I'm going to post this and then check what else has been said...

    Ok some more things!!

Owens - how's A going with the bf? Still having success??

Emma - just read about T feeding overnight and not much during the day - it could definitely be that, I can't remember his feeding routine but do you always offer him the boob first during the day? When he wakes?

It seems to be quite a common thing, has happened to my sister and a friend of ours... Feeds dropped during the day and increased overnight. I thought X was doing a similar thing but he seems to have increased his day feeds now so that's good.

Just keep offering during the day!

AFU: X going well, apart from the night waking. He's so close to crawling, it's very exciting!! Not much else to report, we're in the process of moving house, it's s bit of a process!!! Sigh! We'll get there soon hopefully! Can't wait... It's all getting a bit hard at the moment!
