Thanks ladies, i know they all develop different but my family always have something nasty to say about my babies and after a while you start to think maybe they're right about some things...
Salad - Yay for speedy commando crawling! That would be so cute Sho would the clapping, that's awesome co-ordination. Sorry to hear about your DD lashing out, Lyla's past that now thank goodness. She'd grab Shay's arms and squeeze or shake them. She pushed her over once too
OceanPrincess - Sorry to hear you're having sleep problems, excuse my stupid question but what is night weaning? If its as what it sounds like i don't see how cutting out night feed will help? Hope you find a solution that works for you soon
Dr Tal - Yay for B feeling better! Sux you have to go back to work though... B sounds like a real little character. Walking along behind a toy, what a clever little man. If Shay's holding onto something that moves she panics and sits down
AFU i forgot to mention last time that Lyla toilet trained herself in a week day and night *very proud mumma* have been trying to get her interested in toilet training for ages and she just decided one day, no more nappies! Now she wants to teach Shay
I have a question. Shay will only eat pumpkin... No matter what i do this is the only thing she'll eat she shakes her head at anything else. I have tried and tried to get her to eat other veggies she WILL NOT even open her mouth for fruit. I never had this problem with Lyla she ate anything and everything. So any ideas/tips would be much appreciated
Jessey - sorry to hear your family puts your girls down so much. I just don't understand why so many families are so nasty. It just doesn't make any sense to me. They should be the ones supporting you all the time, not making your doubt
Have you tried mixing things in with the pumpkin? or giving her similar coloured foods? Sweet potato and carrot come to mind, they are a very similar colour to pumpkin, or if you can't fool her with the one on it's own, mix it in with the pumpkin. Start with say 80% pumpkin 20% sweet potato and then start changing it so its more and more sweet potato if that makes sense?
ok girls... i really need to vent and don't have anyone else to talk to hope yous don't mind...
DP and i are having real bad issues... Things haven't always been sunshine and lollipops with us but this is getting horrible. The other day we're at the supermarket.
He just snaps goes from happy and chatty to screaming at me (in the middle of a packed supermarket with everyone staring like it was Jerry Springer or something) telling me i was a wh*re and slept around and DD2 isn't even his cos she doesn't even look like him and has blue eyes.
I had no idea where all this came from and was really hurt by it... She is his i have been 100% faithful i would never cheat on him!
We had a HUGE fight and he apologised and said he knew deep down i wouldn't etc etc...
Well yesterday i found out who started the rumour... My own mother!
I don't know what to do... I have cut off all contact with her once before (cos she did something equally nasty and vindictive) for over a year but it was my siblings that suffered, she didn't care. I'm the second oldest of 9 and i don't want to miss out on them or lose my relationship with my big sister which i will if i cut ties with mum. But who says that about their own daughter!? The other one is that DD2 was switched at birth...
I just don't know what to do and am feeling so betrayed... I don't know what i want from typing this partly i just needed to tell someone partly i'd like to know what others would do in this situation... Thanks if you read this far any advice much appreciated...
Jessey - hun that is a horrible situation to be in. Can't really offer you advice either way as somthing like that has to be completely your decision. I guess you just need to try to weigh up keeping the relationship with your mother vs breaking ties. Can your relationship with your DP survive your mother? Do you two talk about your 'issues' much? Maybe try to set aside an hour a week where the two of you sit down and talk about any problems you might be having with each other...so they don't become and elephant in the room so to speak and blow up like they did at the supermarket. Then you could cut ties with your mother on the other hand and not worry about that. But I guess if you mother is horrible to you is she horrible to your other siblings as well, so maybe having you around is a bit of sanity. Or would they understand and seek you out themselves in a year or two and are you willing/able to wait that long?
About her having blue eyes so her not being your dp's....that's just a load of cr@p. I am assuming your DP has brown eyes. Very quick genetics 101 (you can stop reading here if you're not interested). This is going to be very simplified. Very generally you have two genes that determine eye colour. Brown (br) which is dominant and blue (bl) which is recessive. A child gets one eye colour gene from mum and one from dad. BUT if you have brown eyes you might have a br X br (so two brown genes) or a br X bl (so a brown and a blue gene but still have brown eyes). You need bl X bl to get blue eyes. So if your DP has a parent or grandparent or great grand parent or great great grandparent (I think you get the picture) that had blue eyes he could still carry a blue gene. So you have blue eyes, you have two blue genes so give DD one of your bl genes. DP has a recessive bl gene from his great great great great grandfather (or whoever) and DD happens to get his bl gene instead of his brown gene. He has brown eyes, but VOILA your DD have blue eyes.
Thanks Dr Tal, she is very controlling and manipulative she is worse to me cos she had basically nothing to do with me til i was 12... But that's another story.
This is the second time she has near ruined DP and i... i just can't keep forgiving her.
I know my older siblings will contact me if they want to but its the younger ones (6, 4 and 1) that i am worried about. I love those kids so much as it is i missed out on being a sister last time we had a falling out. I think deep down i want to cut ties but i just can't bring myself to do it she will make life hell (again) just so confused and hurt at the moment... i'll figure it out, eventually.
As for the blue eyes, THANK YOU! Someone who believes me!
DP has chocolate brown eyes, my eyes are hazel (green and brown). BUT my dad's, grandad's great grandma and great grandad's eyes are all BLUE. DP's mum's are too. So IMO there is where she got them from!
Sorry for the me posts just really need to get it out. Thanks again
Hope everyone's doing well, it really is very quiet in here x
Jessey since both you and your DP have one parent with Blue eyes you both MUST have a blue eye gene even though you have brown eyes (hazel is a varient of brown). So your dad and your DP's mum are DEFINITELY where she got her blue eyes from (and you don't even have to stretch to grandparents to figure that one out). So with both of you having a blue gene you basically have a 50/50 chance of any of your children having blue eyes. So yes, I definitely believe you and I can give a lecture to your DP (or your mum perhaps?) about genetics if you'd like
Hope everyone is doing well and are only not popping in here to say hi because they are busy chasing little ones
B is off and running (behind his little walker thing that is) He's getting quite good at going in a staight line. Steering on the other hand doesn't seem to be his strong point I am hoping to put a couple videos oh him motoring away up soon if anyone is interested in seeing him go!
Jessey, sounds like a draining situation with your mum. When you mentioned ages ago that your mum had 9 children I immediately thought she must be catholic or something (lol no offence intended to anyone) but her behaviour doesn't sound very christian! That really sucks. Hope things with your DP get better.
Dr Tal, have you been to work much lately?
AFU - I have no idea when I last posted on here, and going back through earlier pages of posts is just too hard! Boy am I lazy. We went to the Gold Coast for 3 nights this week, it was fantastic to get away from doing cooking and laundry every day. Before we left DH took T to the doctor to check that he didn't have an ear infection. He'd been clawing at his ear a lot, in a different way to when he's teething, and he doesn't seem to be teething at the moment anyway. He didn't, but while there GP did standard weigh. You guys might recall I was worried that he hadn't grown much these past couple of months, and GP is starting to worry now. Yay. We'd spoken to a nurse on the 13 health number about his sleeping issues who said we were feeding him too much solids (!!) and to cut back and increase his fluids. GP was alarmed at this and told us to ramp up his solids and aim for 700-800ml of fluid a day. The hard part is actually convincing T to eat more and more frequently, and knowing how much he gets overnight.
But he's still doing well developmentally, I think. He's started pulling himself up on the furniture recently, and he's shown us he can crawl on hands and knees when he wants to - which is when he's looking at something up high or wants to pull himself up. He seems to prefer commando crawling because he can do it so fast! And hold things in both hands while he does it! lol.
Gotta go do some rearranging - my dad's coming to live with us. T is not going to have his own room for the foreseeable future. Will be interesting, it's such a small house!
Emma - No she isn't catholic, just a big family...
I hate conflicting advice! It can be so frustrating. But that's good that at least they are now helping you with your concerns about T's weight. Hope all goes well trying to increase his food. He sounds like a clever (and cheeky) little boy
I'm after some more advice. Sorry to be such an information sucker!!
I'm wondering about food for T. I know babies this age need a lot of iron. Do you girls feed your bubs a lot of meat? Or do you think iron-fortified baby cereal is sufficient?
Information suck away haha i'm not an expert but more than happy to share my opinions to help when i can
My babies both liked their veggies best S wont touch fruit! She likes chicken i haven't tried her on other meats. sweet potatoes, spinach, broccoli are all good sources of iron as is meat and poultry. Vitamin C helps with iron absorption apples, bananas, tomatos, berries all are high in vitamin c
Thanks Jessey! Also, do you puree everything? And do you give S whatever you're eating? I get the feeling I should avoid giving T a lot of the stuff we eat like spag bol, apricot chicken etc because of the salt content.
I give B a lot of meat...he eats fish, chicken, turkey and beef. I haven't given him pork yet because it's so nhigh in fat. When I give him beef it's either a really big hunk that he then slimes to death, or I cut it up really really small or it';s mince. I don't usually cook with much salt..I prefer to use garlic, onion and herbs and spices so we basically feed B everything and anything we eat. I personally avoid giving him anything I know has much salt in it. But like Jessey said there are a lot of veggies high in iron...basically any of the green ones really.
Emma - Now that you've been RAK'ed you can get an avatar
S is starting to refuse pureed food so doing her chunks/fingers. If we're having something like spag bol or anything i don't really think she's ready for i just take some meat out before i add all the other bits and pieces if that's the "normal" thing to do but that's what we did with L and are now doing with S
