AFM - My Saturday night has been productive. I've vacuumed and mopped the kitchen and living room. Go me! A bit sad that that's how I'm spending a Saturday night, but ah well! We've all been sick for the last week and a half. T has been painfully whingey during the day, not interested in going outside like he is usually dying to do half the day, and waking up every half hour for several hours in the middle of the night and crying, seemingly in pain, and difficult to settle. Last night I couldn't stand the thought of another night like that so when he woke up at 10pm and was doing the same thing, unable to be settled after 20 minutes, I decided to take him to the hospital. I'd convinced myself he must have a serious digestive problem because he hadn't eaten much the last 4 days, and the way he was squirming when he woke could be tummy pain. So off we went, DH insisted on coming even though I said we'd be fine and he should get some sleep. But wouldn't you know it, that little monkey, the closer we got to the hospital the more he seemed quite happy and that everything was fine. He was even singing his "e-i-e-i-ohhhh" at one point. I was getting less and less certain about taking him. In the end, it was only an hour or so's wait and the doctor checked his tummy and all seemed okay, but his ears were red inside and the doc said he looked to have an ear infection and the pain from that could be causing the waking, though he agreed with me that every half hour didn't make sense. That's my T, the very insensible sleeper. At least when we got home he slept from about 1am to 6am without a single wake up (though there were a couple of crashes in the cot that woke us up!), possibly thanks to the nurofen we gave him (we'd tried panadol but doc said nurofen might work better as an anti-inflammatory).
So what did everyone have for dinner tonight? And what's for breakfast tomorrow? lol. Still trying to get an idea of what "normal" people feed their kids... I tried feeding T roast chicken and vegies but he didn't want any of it. Still not eating much.
Can any of the kiddies sort shapes yet? T will try putting a shape in the wrong hole, twisting it a few times to try to fit it in, and sometimes he tries another hole or two but he doesn't bother twisting it like the first one. Then he either throws the shape away and squeals or takes the lid off the container and puts the shape in that way, the little cheat.
T has finally made an "s" sound. Yay! Still waiting for "c" and "l". Last night I was in the kitchen getting myself a drink and he was at the table with his dad and looking at me, so I raised my glass to him and said "cheers". A moment later he repeated it, it wasn't exactly right but close enough and it was just too funny.
That's late enough for me. I'm off to bed! Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Sounds like all our bubs are behaving just the way they should be LOL.
EJ: About the hospital thing- glad it was nothing serous. I had to giggle about him getting better on the way to the hospital. How frustrating...LOL. Are you having trouble with finding foods for T to eat? Well we give DD weetbix or porridge in the morning. Her fav meal at the moment is homemade chicken soup or homemade pasties. We give her snacks of cantelope, watermelon or plain cake (treat). When we go shopping we bribe her with arrowroot biscuits or a banana DD went through a non eating stage awhile back and wouldnt drink either- she was well- just wouldn't eat. I was worried about her fluids so I made her jelly and she loved it, so now she has jelly and toddlers yogurt before bed.
Anyway- DD is a combination of a little terror cross beautiful angel LMAO. One minute she is all cuddles and chatty then she turns into horror head. She is slowly improving but it takes afair bit of energy from DH and I to 'ignore her'. At the moment she is obsessed with "poos". This is mainly because of Cookie because she watches me change cookies nappy and gets soo excited when she sees poos! LOL. We are getting her a potty tomorrow because she is now beginning to tell us when she is doing poos, so it may be the right time???
She is also obsessed with "bubbons"- bellybuttons. She now tries to lift up everyones top to see their 'bubbon".
DD is not walking yet She will walk if you hold her hand but she wont walk on her own. I am partly grateful for this with a newborn and all but I wonder how I can get her to walk on her own?

EmmaJane – No, he actually hasn’t. Which has really surprised me. I know Tix and Tano would never bite him, but he’s been REALLY rough with Niya lately. I mean REALLY rough. He pulled out two huge handfulls of her hair yesterday. And she’s growled and snapped her head around, which is a sure indication she’s going to nip, but stopped just short when she saw it was him. Then looked really sheepish for having growled at him I actually WANT her to, and she just won’t…which I guess is good but bad too IYKWIM?
I just saw your post in the other thread too huge You are so not failing your little boy. I know I struggle to think of things to do with B and I work 5 days a week! Something I do know B enjoys doing and it’s really interactive, is going for a walk. Then I point to everythign we see and tell him what it is and talk to him about it. He also loves going to the fish shop DH says I’ve created a monster. Hehehe
I certainly hope that T starts sleepig better for you again. I imagine that an ear infection would be terribly painful, so hopefully once the meds kick in he’ll go back to sleepign for you again.
Dinner….well we had pork chops, corn, green beans and mashed potatos all cooked in my thermomix. Have I mentioned my thermomix before? (if I haven’t I am very surprised because it is just the most fantastic thing in the WHOLE WORLD!!!) I LOVE IT!! I cooked everything all together (kind of but not really, if you’ve ever seen a thermomix you’d understand) in less the 20 minutes. YUM. Tonight we’re having pork again or some sort…we just butchered one of our pigs, and consequently we’ll be eatign lots and lots of pork over the next couple weeks Breakky, DH ALWAYS has toast with jam, and he cuts little toast fingers off one for B. and I usually have oatmeal or semolina and share most of that with B as well. I’ve also had a thing for making macaroons lately (for dessert) and over the weekend I made coconut macaroon and almond macaroons. I also made the most yummy cheese crackers (in my thermomix) for B.
What do I feed B. Pretty much anything and everything we eat. (although I’m not sure if I’d class our family as normal )Some of it he eats, some of it he doesn’t. Also some days he’ll just devour one thing, I give it to him again a week later and he won’t want a bar of it. Some of his favourites. Corn on the Cob, he ate an ear and a half last night Roast pumpkin. Mashed potatoes. He likes sausages, I think because they are easy for him to eat. We get our friends to make them (they are both butchers) so we know exactly what is in them. Pretty much any type of fruit…he’s a bit of a fruit bat, although at the moment strawberries are by far his favourite. He also loves poppy’s spag bol.
B doesn’t do shapes very well, although he will fluke it once in a while. But he’s good with colours. He can point to red, blue, yellow, green, purple and black. He’s not got the hang of most of the others, but I think he’s doing pretty good.
delphmoon - about gumnut being obsessed with poos. That’s hilarious. Hehehe. I would take her tellign you about her doing poos as a great sign that she might be ready to toilet train.
B is obsessed with belly buttons too…but he calls them bebbybububs. Which is funny, but horrible at the same time. I say horrible because I HATE…and I do mean hate as in detest, it’s absolutely one of the msot horrible things you could possibly do to me….my belly button being touched. And he pokes and prods it and giggles and digs and picks and blows raspberries on it (that’s the newest thing, he just started that one about a week ago)
Walking, I know B held on to something when he walked for ages. I use to trick him by givign him something to hold on to (like a ball or something) and distract him so he didn’t realise he was walking without holding something. One day it just clicked that he could do it on his own.
AFU – B has finally started to say more words. He’s a regular little chatterbox now, which is odd because he usually doesn’t have much to say at all. We’ve also discovered that he LOVES Fraggle Rock. He’s never been interested in TV. We’ve never been able to turn it on and have it amuse him…good and bad. But DH and I put on the Fraggles (for us to watch LOL) the other night and he was mesmerised. He was dancing to the music and tapping his hand and foot to the beat and watched two entire episodes
He’s also getting really good at swimming. He’ll jump of the wall into the water to me and he really kicks him legs and he’ll reach out to grab the wall and can hold on without any support at all.
In other news I take my citizenship pledge tomorrow, then I’ll officailly be an Australian YEAH!
Dr T: congrats on being officially an Aussie!!! Great news. Sounds like B has been busy learning things the last few weeks! X is starting to love swimming too but we're not quite up to the jumping off the edge stage! He's still a bit nervous for that!
Delph - I get the angel child/horror child combo! X is the same!! He will be gorgeous and smiling and sweet and then turn on a dime! Argh! Sounds like she might be ready for a potty - but don't push it! Let her take her time, generally they don't start until 2 years as they don't have the bladder control, the actual muscles don't develop to support the bladder until 2 apparently. Let her lead you, at this age anyway!
With the walking - again, don't fret! She'll get there in her own time! Has she got a walker toy? Something that she can push and walk behind?
EJ - how's T's eating been? DS eats mostly whatever we eat now - breakfast will be toast, cereal or pancakes, lunch is usually a sandwich or some leftovers, dinner is whatever we have - pasta, casserole, meat and veg... he's pretty good, he'll generally eat most things. He does go through phases where he decides he doesn't like something that he did previously, weird! We moved him to the dining table now, out of the high chair, in a booster chair, like his big sis. He loves it! He's also determined to feed himself - it is a messy process but he's getting better. I just invested in two new table cloths - dark brown and burgundy My pale green and cream ones were taking a beating!
Haven't tried X on shapes much - DH did some the other night and he wasn't too bad. I feel bad for him, being number 2 baby I don't spend as much one-one time with him as I did with DD. I should do
AFU: As I said above, X is still being a bit of a handful! He is getting better as his words get better... he can actually say "drink please", or a good approximation anyway, which is great. So he points now and says "Dink pease" and doesn't get frustrated that it takes me 5 mins to work out what he wants. He understands most things I say, which is awesome. And he is so happy, most of the time! He laughs and smiles and is just gorgeous. We had a rough week or so where I think they were responding to all the things that were going on at home and they were both a bit feral but things are much improved since then.
He's becoming more interactive which is lovely. He's getting good at asking questions and telling you big long sentences... completely inteligible of course But he is trying and it is very cute. He knows lots of animal words and LOVES sharks and fish. Really starting to enjoy interacting with him.
I have a rare moment where everyone is happy and quiet...shhhh....I'm trying not to make any typing noise or Lily will want to play on the laptop
Its been hugely busy. We are moving house next week and I have recently discovered I may have a tiny hoarding problem I am being callous and throwing out handbags and shoes...or some of them atleast- but I am guilty of retrieving one pair of shoes and 2 handbags from the bin...LOL
Anyway- the cherubs are going along well. Lily is still being a monster although alittle more managable. She STILL is not walking!!! She walks fine if we let her hold our hand but otherwise- as soon as you let go of her hand she intentionally drops to the floor- she won't even try. Its alittle frustrating because it would be easier if I could hold her hand and walk her to the car for instance instead of having to put Adele in then go back and get her IYGWIM.
She is still totally fascinated with poo and has done 2 poos on the potty but she wont sit on the potty unless she has her nappy on..so she is doing poos on the potty in her nappy lol

OP – Wow! Sounds Like X is starting to talk quote a bit. I had a chuckles about the dink pease. So cute. B still doesn’t talk much. I know he can say probably a couple dozen words, but he’ll only say an actual word once in a blue moon. He usually just jabbers….as in jaba jaba jab jib jab. Actually sounds like he really is saying jagger

Delph – So good to hear from you. I can imagine that you’l have not much spare time to yourself with two littlies AND moving house. I don’t envy you the moving house thing.
I had a good old chuckle about L sitting on the potty and pooing in her nappy how funny. I know B often will go stand right in front of the toilet to pee on the floor. So close, and yet SO FAR
AFU – B has started to get REALLy good at kicking a ball. And he LOVES it. He’ll occupy himself for ages kicking around the ball (ages for me is anything that keeps him occupied for more then a 5 minute span of time ) His favourite at the moment is to kick the ball at the dogs and then squeal in delight when/if it hits one of them, which depending on the dog will either illicit anything from a dirty look, to a gruff, to jumping up and chasing the ball (the last being the one that amuses him the most).
Hi Delph! I had to laugh at Lily pooing in her nappy on the potty too. And at you salvaging handbags and shoes from the bin! My goodness, I still can't imagine having a second baby at the moment, never mind moving house! I hope you have LOTS and LOTS of help!
Dr T, sounds like you have a football star in the making!
OP - how awesome that X can communicate more. I can't wait for T to be able to. I find it really tricky at the moment, trying to figure out how to teach T about manners when he doesn't say much anyway! He has for quite a while had this thing that seems to be his way of saying thank you and you're welcome but with one syllable that is probably supposed to be "ta". I've never said "ta" to him, I use "thank you", but I suspect the day care ladies must use it.
So is X saying the actual animal words? T only does the sounds!
I'd be thrilled if T was into feeding himself as much as X! T's eating is much the same, hit and miss. He loves peas still which is good. I think it's the size he likes, and picking them out of his food. It's my problem more than his - I just can't think of enough things that are healthy, easy for him to eat and we're not sick of already!
AFU - We went to the beach for the weekend. I had been anticipating it with great excitement! It was perfect weather in the end. The first 4 trips to the beach were okay but T didn't really get into it until the last trip when we went to a beach at low tide that had shallow, relatively calm water and shells and stuff. Sounds obvious now, but we tried taking him to the surf beach a couple of times. Of course he wasn't going to like that when we had to hold his hands and stop him from running into the ocean!!
I bought a potty for Travis today and put him on it straight after his bath. After a few minutes he stood up and before I could even think to check it he'd tipped it upside down and spilt wee all over the floor. So I made a point of emptying what was left into the toilet then rinsed it out and put him back on it, and said "Can you do a poo?". A little while later he stood up, turned around and looked down into the potty. I was paying a bit more attention this time so beat him to picking it up, and sure enough there was a poo! DH and I cheered and Travis joined in ("yay!" and clapped, so cute!).
I just had to share that little story. I'm sure it doesn't mean he'll be quick to toilet train, but I was very proud all the same.
Emma – That’s super exciting about T pooing and peeing in the potty. I had a friend from work give me a potty and a urinal (SO CUTE) for B. I’ve contemplated sitting him on it of a morning, because he always wee’s within 5 minutes of waking up (is dry through the night 95% of the time ) but I am SO not a morning person, and haven’t been able to get my act together yet…ah well
Sounds like T had a great time at the beach too! I am SO jealous. B loves the water (so do I) but I’ve not dared take him to the beach lately, as it’s stinger season now, and all the stinger net beaches are jam packed with people, and I worry about him getting stung anywhere else….oh well.
AFU – I spent WAY WAY WAY too much money shopping for my nieces and nephew on the weekend. But I have a bit of a dilemma with B. We’re going to the States to visit my family for Christmas. And I want to buy B stuff while we are over there (that we wouldn’t be able to get here) but we don’t fly in until 6:30 the night of the 23rd and I don’t know how I’ll go (either being able to find stuff or jet lag wise) buying him stuff in time for Christmas. And even though I know he’s still too young to know and woudlnt’ care if we gave him things on Christmas or a week after…..but I still want him to have things to open on Christmas. Because I would know IYKWIM?? So do I buy stuff here?? Only to fly it over there and then fly it back? I know my mum would buy stuff for him for us, but I also know that she’d refuse to take money from us to pay her back, and that sort of defeats the idea of US (as in DH and I) buying him stuff….What to do….what to do….
Wow Emma, that's great about T with the potty! Just take it as he leads you hun, and you can't go wrong. And you are right to be proud
We're not even going to think about it with X yet... we're having enough drama with DD!
Dr T - I've spent way too much on Christmas presents this year too. My problem is buying things on sale and going "That'll be good for so and so for Christmas!" and then putting it aside and forgetting about. So I go looking for presents and find stacks of stuff and go oooops...
We also did a big lay-by at Target in the middle of the year during the big toy sale so I have no idea what I bought!!!
WRT the US Christmas thing (how exciting by the way!!!!), can you let him open your mum's presents (as in the presents from her, not that she has bought for you) on Christmas morning and then go shopping a bit later for things from you and DH?
TBH he will probably get a bit overwhelmed by it all anyway and staggering the gift-giving will be beneficial for him... even DD last year (she was almost 2yo at Christmas last year) took a day or two to open all her presents. Spreading them out will be helpful. Just a thought
AFU: I'm pleased to say that X's tantrums are lessening... they are still around but not as many. I have started to treat him a bit more like a grown-up boy - I say things like "Do this or that will happen" as in "If you kick the screen, mummy will turn it off" and he seems to understand.
I think he needs a big bed... he keeps waking up because he's gotten himself stuck in the cot bars and he LOVES hanging out on DD's bed, so I think it is time. We're going to go looking in the sales after Christmas. Very exciting and yet sad at the same time!
We finally have another tooth - 7 in total now. He's a slow teether!!!!

Dr T - That's amazing about B waking up with a dry nappy most nights! What's your secret? T still has a very full nappy most mornings. How often are you breastfeeding B now? Does he drink much cow's milk?
I agree with OP's suggestion re Christmas presents. You'll have a special time over there no matter which day you give B his presents from you! I hope taking B on the long flight works out without too much pain for you all. I was supposed to go to Germany for work next year for 3 months which would mean moving us all for that short time and between the fact that I just don't think I could handle the flight with T and the situation with DH's depression and both my parents' health I have decided it just isn't a good idea. Maybe some time in the future!
Shame about the stingers up there. It must be such a tease having beautiful swimming weather and beautiful looking beaches that are full of deadly/painful creatures.
OP - Great to hear X's tantrums are decreasing. What a relief! And another tooth, clever boy! Maybe that contributed to the behaviour? What kind of bed are you thinking about getting for X? Hey, I wish I had a stash of Christmas gifts I'd forgotten about. I haven't bought a single present and I dread shopping at the best of times. Add the Christmas crowds into the equation and Travis screaming his head off almost the entire shopping trip and I'm definitely leaning towards doing all my shopping online! Better get organized quick though I guess or things won't get shipped before we need them.
