Hi,

My baby boy Callan was born on the 10th of feb 5:57am. He was 8 pounds 11.

I've been reading belly belly for a while but am new to posting. Looking forward to chatting with other mums!

And mumof2boys!! Congrats on your DD! I hope you all are feeling better and Piper is feeding a bit better. Got to love those hourly feeds hey lol. Xavier has spread out a little to 2-3 hours, but in the afternoons goes back to every hour/hour & a half. I dont have other children though, you must be knackered by the end of the day!


Chody, Good on you with your weight loss! I'd like to lose a bit extra as well so I'm not right on the highest healthy weight for my age & height lol. 1 kilo over my pre-preg weight and I'm overweight apparently haha.
How did Amelia's weigh in go? I hope she had a good gain. Thats great the infacol is working, shame it hasnt stopped the vomiting though. Your a superstar in my books! I hate the stress that comes when Xavier only has one big vomit randomly, so the way your handling Amelia is amazing!


Cakester, Sorry that your little man is having vomiting issues too. Is there anything you can do between now & your next doc visit to help things?


RE expressing, I use some $40 manual pump I got from Kmart LOL. I cant remember the brand. It works fine for me, last time I used it a couple of days ago I got 100mls in about 5-6minutes I need to start expressing in the morning as I have such huge oversupply Xavier gets drenched, I get drenched and he sometimes cant keep up with the amount coming out lol.


Afm, Xavier has been down since about 8.30 (minus a couple of times he stirred) and I was going to go to bed early but one of my fave movies has just come on TV lol. Another late night then
We had a visit today from my nan & aunt. My aunt hadn't met Xavier yet (she lives a couple of hours away and has 5 kids to run after!), and she bought him such cute little clothes and shoes! Her youngest is 13months and she got so jealous when my aunt & nan held Xavier. She whacked Xavier on the head/face a couple of times the cheeky thing. And put on the biggest crocodile tears I've ever seen when she got in trouble for it lol. Xavier was fine, he didnt bat an eyelid. She was so cute though afterwards "bub bub bub!!!" and cuddling him.

Dh has been back at work this week and I have been SO SLACK with everything. I've been so bad and had take out a lot this week as the house has no food and I cant be bothered doing a big shop to fill it again. And i cant be bothered going down the street every night to get something to cook. When DH gets a day off next I think I'll make him take us shopping and get back into the habit of doing a weekly shop.

OMG and I nearly got my face peed on today I was giving Xavier time without his nappy and was goo-ing over his teeny tiny toes .... and he started peeing My hand got most of it thankfully, except the bit that went in my hair Lesson learnt: dont goo over wittle toes when bubs has no nappy on!

Hey Shan23 have you thought of shopping online with coles etc just until you get back into the rhythm of things might be a little dearer but at least you are not venturing out each night to get dinner.I have brought some INFACOL to try seems to help so we will see how it goes he doesnt seem to vomit as much but will be patient.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to handle a 3year old who just doesn't listen when asked to do or not do something and how to learn o wait his turn. I know this is a tricky time for him but it started way before bubs came maybe some of you ladies who have more than one bubba could give me some strategies that may have helped.
We are getting more and more ladies this group is Rocking big time welcome to all our newbies.
Archer is doing well just still having the vomiting and wind issues We are all loving him to bits.

Just a quick response to cakester since I am on my phone. Regarding your three year old. I am obviously a new parent but I am a teacher and also worked briefly as a preschool teacher so will offer some suggestions, although whether you choose to try the ideas is up to you as I have never been around multiple kids 24/7 before. Anyway, from my experience and study (i studied behavior management ad part of my masters) I would say that whatever you do consistency is the key (although very hard when you have your hands full). You might choose an authoritarian type of management (I.e consistent consequences for not following the rules - although from experience I would suggest concentrating on one behavior that you are trying to
Change at a time) or you could offer rewards each time they do do what they are told and wait their turn (perhaps a star chart where they get a bigger reward after collecting x number of stars). Depending on ds1's level of understanding you could also try discussing the problem with him and get him 'on side' for fixing the problem (maybe discuss how it makes mummy feel when he is not behaving and how he feels when he is being told off). Anyway, I hope some of these ideas make sense as it's hard to go over what I've written on here. If you want me to elaborate more or give more suggestions let me know and I will when in my comp. Good luck!

Cakestar, my 3.5 year old doesn't listen very well and is terrible at waiting for his turn. And he's been a big brother for quite some time. It truly is the age for it.

For the listening I have to make sure he has eye contact with me, otherwise he doesn't hear a word that I say. The waiting, if he starts to whine I make him wait longer. He's slowly learning.

We also do 123 magic discipline here and it seems to work. 3yo are tough I've found... much worse than 2.

Hi Shan23,

Callan is my first (DS I guess), so big learning curve all around. Also I ended up with an emergency caesar - not ideal! But 3 weeks later I'm feeling much better, and DS is a very settled baby with generally cheerful disposition, so we are very lucky!

Just popping in to see how everyone is going - been pretty quiet in here so im guessing, like me, our new little bundles have been keeping you all busy!

not much to report on here, had my MCN appt yesterday and DD is growing nicely. she gained 650gms in 2 weeks, so at least i know shes getting enough bb milk! she has grown 3.5cm since birth and is now 57.5cm

Chody: Thanks for the advice I have used most of these and they do work at times, but I must admit I have nit been consistant been hard with little bubba in my arms as that seems to be the time he wants things or does something and I know that is the key. I am going to try the star chart idea and see how that goes.
MO2B: At least i know that im not alone I try to make eye contact etc and it helps but sometimes it goes in one ear and out the other. When he was 2 he was a complete angel this age is worse I think has a stubborn streak which doesnt help.
CTRXC; Welcome and congrats on your safe arrival a ceaser isnt fun is it I am stil recovering will be 5 weeks this friday my ceaser wound is hurting again all of a sudden. Only just starting to get back into the swing of things.
AFM: Bubs is doing ok still having vomiting issues but he is now taking 150mls of formula each feed i not sure if I am giving him too much as it doesnt matter how much we give him he is still vomiting (it isnt projectile) just as soon as we put him down he vomits no matter how long we hold him upright after his feed have to go back to the docs next week anyways I have noticed though if he doesnt poo the vomiting is worse that when he does poo.

Sorry, I have been so busy with new bub and my DD as well as my D having gastro so badly I had to take him to hospital after the locum said he had to get an ECG as he has getting heart pain and shoulder and back pain. Luckily everyone is almost recovered (everyone, even little DS got 'Code Brown'). DS is also a vomiter Cakestar, but he's only having 100mls each feed if that so your bub def. is eating more!
My DD is really asserting herself now so god help us as she's only 23 months!

I have a question - How much do your babies sleep at night? My DS feeds at 6:30pm/10pm/1pm/4pm then usually 5:30/6:00am but no has never gone more than 3 1/2 hours between feeds ever. I know it doesn't last forever but when he takes an hour to feed then wakes up an hour after that....but he's so cute it's OK

My DD2 sounds the same as your DS. The longest i can stretch her out over night is 4hrs, and thats pushing it, usually its 3-3 1/2 hrs. so it sounds like your DS is doing exactly what BF bubs do! - it is tiring but like you said it doesnt last forever

The longest Lucy has slept is 6 hours, but that was a one off. Like Negrita, I can usually stretch her feeds to 4 hours and I find that is enough to make me feel human again. I find that she seems to know when she is going to have a longer sleep as she has a much longer feed beforehand - she will feed for about an hour.

I thought i would pop in while little miss is asleep,

Lairdoz, Glad to hear everyone is recovering well. I have been soooo lucky with Sophie she goes down at about 9pm after a feed then wakes at about 4am feeds again then sleeps till about 8am. But she dosn't like sleeps of a day!

I finally decided to have a trip to town yesterday on our own. I was a bit worried she'd scream Coles down, but she just sat in her trolley and watched everything, although it took 2 hrs to shop because i work there everyone wanted to meet her

We had a few wind problems at the start but DH went and brought 'Infants Friend' and it seems to really work well, i got so upset when she screamed in pain and i couldn't do much to help her.

Well i better go, i can hear her waking up for her feed

Thanks ladies for your bubs sleeping patterns - I have yet to get four hours! My DS is mainly formula fed which is why I am so frustrated. I breast fed him at the 3:30 and 5:30 feed and got one hours sleep (he took an hour to feed and settle) then 30 minutes sleep after the 530 feed before he woke again - Grrrr! He's asleep in my arms making cute noises but as my DD is calling out Mummmmmeeeeee' I have to get up for the day.
I do both BF and formula as I have real problems breastfeeding from my left side and it took me two weeks to establish on the right side. Had the same issue with my DD so at least this time I'm feeling better prepared.

Infants friend was a good friend with DD too Bec, isn't it great to give bubs some rellief from the awful crying. Glad you had fun showing off bubs at work!

Ooops I've been MIA a few days lol. I've been reading along but havent had the time to reply.

Thanks for the coles online suggestion cakester I used it for the first time this week! AMAZING! Soooo much easier. I like that I can write my shopping list and get exactly what I need, but not be tempted by in store specials on bad food & drinks lol. Price wise it didnt come out much more expensive than normal. I'll definitely be using them again when I get another case of the cbfs lol.

ctrxc, Thats great your feeling much better from the c-section. How awesome that Callan is such a settled bub for you. Xavier is the same and it certainly makes the transition into motherhood easier lol.

Negrita, what a fantastic weight gain! They grow too fast!

Lairdoz, I hope you bub starts settling a little more for you at night, that would be exhausting. Xavier has only recently started sleeping in longer blocks. He now sleeps 6 hrs after his 9.30 feed, then goes 3 hours and then 2.5 hrs. Then 2.5hrs after his last feed his up for the day. I'm lucky though as he only feeds for 10-15mins and his got all he needs. I'm in awe of you woman who are doing such long nights and then have another little one to look after during the day!

Samcougar, I haven't braved the alone visit to the shops yet! Doesnt help DP takes the car with the carseat in it to work though haha. Tomorrow though I want to get out while his at work, I'm sick of being at home lol. Glad she was so chilled for you =)


Afm, feeling a bit off today. Have a headache and bit of a sore neck. Stupid pillows we sleep on are awful, DP woke the same as I but worse. And Xavier woke for a third time last night and it threw me a little & has made me feel more tired than normal as he hasnt done it in a while. But when we got back to sleep he slept until 9.30am so I atleast got to catch up on sleep a bit.

I'm so PO with DP's boss. DP is a chef and works long hours, and since returning to work almost two weeks ago has only had one full day off. Now he has to work the next TWO WEEKS straight as his boss wants him to cut labour costs down more. And to do that it means DP has to work everyday. DP has reworked the rosters over and over to cut to costs down to what his boss wants, but the labour budget his working with his wrong. His boss works it out himself, but doesnt account for when weeks are quieter/busier(so more staff needed etc). I cant be annoyed at DP as he's just as PO as I am. But god I just want to scream and yell at DP to tell this guy to eff off (DP worked a month straight nov/dec last year) and get out of hospitality altogether. He wont get paid any overtime for this as hospitality has a loophole that means employers dont have to if they state in the contract that overtime is part of their yearly wage.

And i have no idea what i'm going to do with myself. I cant even visit my mum as we have to stay away from her house in case Xavier is allergic to horses and his allergy level is as high as DP's (DP almost died when he touched a horse as a child). Mum owns horses and they are around them every day as they are kept on her property. So there would be horse hair in the house etc. So until we find out how animal allergies work in babies we cant visit there just in case. I'll be asking my GP at my 6 week check up how it works & when we can test etc.

Shan23 so understand hating hospitality - I worked in it for seven years and was paid a pittance while working harder than I ever have since. I have always employed people who have worked in hospitality since I started 'normal' jobs because I know what hard workers they are! I found that it's important to remember that bosses like your DH's will continue to exploit workers if he's allowed. No contract in Australia is lawful if it says you are required to do unpaid and limitless overtime because the boss wants to work without enough staff. It would be reasonable to do overtime if it's busy(and hence this isn't covered as paid overtime on some contracts), but that's all Many contracts have this, not just hospitality, but that doesn't mean it's lawful in every instance.

Hope everyone has a better night than I am preparing for. DS has been asleep for almost 2 1/2 hours but he annoyingly sleeps better at the beginning of the night than he does in the early morning. My baby dungeon (which is what I call it as I have a queen bed, TV and everything all set-up in the room with DS while my DH sleeps in our normal bedroom without fear of being woken by a squaking, hungry and very cute little boy

Its been quiet in here, I hope everyone is doing well

Xavier's day sleeps have gone bonkers the last 3-4 days. His been waking up at 10am (which is awesome for me, but not for his day sleeps lol) which I think have messed with them. He catnaps the entire day and wont go down for longer than an hour at the most. And then come 7pm onwards he fights sleep and is so over tired he doesnt go down for the night until 11pm-midnight. I tried to keep him up when he woke at 8.30 yesterday but he went back to sleep within 15mins.
Hopefully we're on the way to fix it today. He was up pretty much every hour last night from 12.45am onwards, and was up for the day at 8.45 or so. We then went for a sleep together at 10.30 and slept for about 2 hours with a small feed in between. His had another hour nap since then, and his been down about 45mins now again although has woken twice. Hopefully he goes for at least an hour. Fingers crossed he then goes to sleep as normal tonight!
I cant complain really though as he still sleeps awesome at night (cept last night lol). And he's always so content and happy.

And oh my god he is such a happy little chatterbox! Its SO CUTE! He just smiles and smiles, DP got to experience the full force of overloading cuteness this morning lol. He just looked at Xavier and Xavier was all big cheesy grins. And he's gooing and gaaing a bit more now when his having a kick around. Oh and when he's getting cranky lol.

afm - just got the all clear from the Cardiologist, YAY! He's just had a sleep study done on Monday last week as well, so awaiting the results on that. He was having apnea's from been prem, he had a major one when he had his immunisations and completely stopped breathing but seems to be OK at the mo.

Butterfly, how scary to have him stop breathing! I would have a panic attack! I'm so pleased he is going ok now.

AFM little miss slept from 8pm last night till 5am, she's so settled of a night which is so fantastic! I was wide awake at 4am ready for her feed though Shes getting such a personality, hehe i just love her to bits!
