Cass - I didn't realise that your boys are from your DH's previous relationship(?) You never know what the future will hold. Maybe he will have a change of heart?!?!?!
Off to a zoo today with the kids, taking advantage of the public holiday. Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend.
Hi everyone! Sorry I've been so slack and not been in here . Three kids makes it hard to sit down long enough to type a decent post!
Saffi - M sounds like she's doing so well! I have to think about lowering the cot mattress too, Alana is doing the same thing. It's so cute to see them standing up smiling at you when you go in isn't it?! I hope your eye clears up quickly .
MummeNurse - Wow, I am blown away that Eli can walk That's amazing!! And you sound like you have been SO busy, well done on doing a great job
Willow - D is a teething machine LOL! I'm so glad he is back to sleeping well again . Thanks for helping keep me sane the past week .
CheezelMonster - That must have been so stressful when your DS was refusing food. Was he unwell or could he be teething? My boys used to go off food for a while when they were teething.
Issy - Wow @ Lochie cruising! They are growing up too fast these babies! I hope the warm bottles have continued to improve his sleep!
Koru - Yay for Orla crawling! Good luck going back to uni, good on you!
Misty - Baz sounds like a very talented little guy! I hope you are filming it all!!
TT - How is work going?
AFU - Alana is going well although she has a bit of a cough atm. She's crawling so fast everywhere these days and she pulls herself up on everything. She is a NIGHTMARE to dress! She will not lie still and will roll over, try and pull herself up and complain at me. It's so frustrating! She's still a happy little thing, but is going through a separation anxiety phase atm. She loves to chat, give high fives and can wave, so cute! She also loves to put her head down and snuggle soft toys, it's so sweet to watch!
Our main problem with Alana is that she HATES the car . She will scream and cry after a short time and long trips are a nightmare. It took us 3 hours to get home from our Easter trip (due to bad traffic) and she was hysterical the whole time. When I got her out she was saturated from sweating. We have been planning a 6 week caravanning trip over to WA in September/October, but we are having second thoughts now. I don't fancy putting her (or us) through that for such a long period. I'm so dissapointed. I think we may have to wait another year when she's 2 years old and can be entertained easily in the car.
Saffi - we have 6 teeth now, another two showing but not yet through.
Trish - Awww, I know you were so looking forward to your trip! Do you think there's a chance she could improve between now and September? They can change so quickly. But I understand there's a lot of planning involved and just 'waiting and seeing' probably wouldn't be ideal! How much does she weigh now? Any chance that you might be able to face her forward soon-ish? I know it's not ideal but I do know some babies settle in the car once they are facing forward.
Issy/Saffi - Are you giving EBM in a bottle or formula?
Trish - my DD was like that in the car since newborn. Some things that I found calmed her (which aren't ideal, and many people probably wouldn't like) firstly music - playschool, etc, and secondly a portable DVD player. She was only a baby, but was completely mesmerised by this. obviously not ideal, but better then constant screaming and stress. She did improve once she was older (over 1) and music was enough.
Willow - formula. We down to 2 BFs a day now, first thing in the morning and either before or after dinner. If I do get up to her overnight I will give her a BF but I'm not sure if she's getting much or just comfort sucking. Either way it settles her and she goes back to sleep easily. Trish - oh no about the trip. No suggestions here as both mine are happy enough in the car. Turning her around may make the difference?
Eye does seem to be getting better. Still looked deformed tho LOL.
Had a great time at the zoo. My DS loved seeing all the animals and he will be talking about it for weeks to come. A lorikeet even sat on his head. Was too slow to get a photo of it, but same happened to DH and I got one of him.
Saffi - Glad you had fun in the zoo! Sounds like a great day out :
Willow - (i know you didn't ask, but thought I would put my two cents in hehe) I give my EBM in a bottle while i was on prac. (the tommee tippee booby looking one) ... But now the days arn't going to be as long, I am going to see how she will go just using a cup at her FDC...
Trish - Sorry about the trip, thats a bummer! Don't know what I could suggest! maybe some nice shining toys, mirror, music thingy in front of her?
Staffi - Yea, my two boys live FT with us, but biologically not mine :-) Could always dream :-)
Is anyone on FB? I have a video up of Eli walking, if you would like to have a look send me your details and i'll send it to you in a msg :-D Just make sure your msg's are available
Thanks guys. Just wanted to know if it was EBM or formula that was making these bubs sleep through. Just out of curiosity I guess, I couldn't be bothered expressing anyway and I won't give formula (no offence intended to those that do) so it's not going to do me any good! LOL

I use formula in the bottle cause my supple is pretty shot due to Lochie's continual refusal to feed and pulling off all the time. I dont express cause I would have to be doing it all day to get a bottle and i wouldnt be able to make enough bottles to get through the day
I never thought i would have to use formula (same, no offence to anyone that does, cause now I do!) but when you have no choice, you have no choice! I have to admit, I always believed that when people said they couldnt breastfeed or they didnt make enough, I didnt believe them...I thought perhaps they werent doing it right, since breastfeeding works by the rule 'the more you feed the more you make'. And yes, it does, and I believe many dont breastfeed successfully due to lack of information and/or support. However, this was until I had Lochie! Now I know, that there are babies who just dont do it very well. He was a bugger to get started, and continued to be difficult. But because I gave him no other choice, he had to learn. But now that he is older, eats more and is FAAAAAAAR more distracted, he just wont do it often, perhaps 3 short breastfeeds a day and one over night....the others are formula. But regardless, he was breastfed exclusively for 8 months, and is still breastfed now, just not as much as before. Formula is helping us in so many ways at the moment and is making my life so much less stressful. Again, never thought id say that, and if you knew me and my family full of midwives, you'd be surprised too....but thats the way it is....you just gotta do what ya gotta do!
Hey everyone just a really quick one cause I have work tomorrow! YAY!
Christening was awesome - Eli didn't cry at all (whoch is very unusal...getting dunked in the water etc Greek Orthodox style ) He was smiling and laughed when the preist touched his feet. My brother DID make it! It was wonderful, he is soooo taken by Eli - loves him to bits. We had a tshirt made which sasy ' I <3 Unkey Mike (Michael is my bro) and he loved it, tears at the airport - love it! Have to go but be back soon
Issy - you are doing a wonderul job and I know how hard it is for you....but as you said Lochie made his mind up
Rach xx
Rach I am glad the christening went well, and your brother did make it.
Willow - Baz doesn't sleep through, and on the very few occaisions he has I think it is by accident. We give a combination of bottles (formula - when I work a couple of nights a week) and it doesn't make a difference to his sleeping patterns either way.
Misty - Thank you for sharing that. Sometimes it's hard because in my experience of friends and family etc the formula fed bubs do sleep through a lot earlier than any of mine have. There are always exceptions of course. I have a friend who's 2.5 year old still doesn't sleep through the night and has one bottle overnight. I guess I need to just remind myself from time to time how important breastfeeding is to me and that I believe I am doing the best for my baby, so if that means feeding overnight, then so be it. I hope that the beautiful memories I have of feeding my babies and the knowledge that I've done what I thought was best lasts a lot longer than the memories of the sleep deprivation! LOL.
Willow - OF COURSE THEY WILL!!!! Sleep is not nearly as important as feeding your baby! And in my experience, Lochie doesnt sleep through with a bottle either...only did it one night! He just sleeps longer...maybe 5 hours at a time, but I would much rather breastfeed him and have him wake more often....but the little bugger wont take it! Grrrrrr......
Willow - Im glad to hear sleep is improving. Yay on the new toothy pegs!
MN - I'd love to see your video! Will PM you. I'm so glad the placement went well for you & Eli both.
Saffi - I hope your eye clears up soon, must be very uncomfortable.
Trish - I think it might have been teething because another bottom tooth has broken through. Your Alana sounds alot like my Moo! He is such a pain to dress & nappy change How long can you leave it to make a decision re caravan trip? I hope she starts to travel better soon, that would be an awesome trip!
TT - I'm so glad the christening went well & your brother managed to get here in time too.
Hi to everyone else! Sorry this is so quick. Moo started walking along furniture today, only did it a couple of times. He is such a little daredevil!
Willow - like issy and misty, when M sleeps through it is more by coincidence than the formula. But I have found that the nights I don't give her a dream feed I am likely to be up multiple times and not just the once. Many nights L doesn't sleep through but that is more to do with a lost dummy or comforter, so I by no means have a great night's sleep from either of them.
I think sleep deprivation comes with being a parent. My boss' 6 year old still gets up in the middle of the night asking for water, go to the loo etc. And then of course we'll be up in the wee small hours wondering where our 18 year olds are! Rach - that's so great your brother was able to make it and that Eli was a perfect angel for you. Cheezel - the eye is getting better, thanks for asking. Yep, got a cruiser here as well. She also grabs onto my leg when I am trying to walk somewhere (cute but annoying).
Rach - I'm so sorry, I missed your post! I'm so glad the christening went well and that your brother was able to make it! Neither my brother or sister made it to D's christening, so I understand how thrilled you must have been to have him there
Saffi - That's true. I guess I was just spoiled by my first, she was well and truly sleeping 12 hours solid every night by 7-8 months. L as you may remember was a bit of a shocker till 10 months when we decided to do some sleep training and has been awesome ever since, I only rarely get up to him if he is unwell. I try to remember what I did with DD that was different but it was 5 years ago! LOL. I know I stopped feeding her overnight by this age. Doesn't seem to have worked with my boys though.
Feeling very tired today/tonight. We didn't have the best night last night. I *think* he cut one of his top teeth but he won't let me have a good look and I was up about 3 times to him. Hoping tonight is a bit better and we go back to just the one wake up.
Saffi - Glad your eye is getting better . Alana grabs my legs too, it can be dangerous at times!
CheezelMonster - Your little man is very clever cruising! Hard to believe the next step is walking, eek! I'm glad I don't have the only hard-to-dress baby LOL! I reckon I'd be able to dress a contortionist now .
Tippytoes - I'm glad the Christening went well and your brother was able to make it . That t-shirt sounds so cute!!
Issy - You have done a great job persevering with BF'ing with Lochie! It definitely sounds like hard work, it's so great that there is such a thing as formula for bubs like him!! I had issues with DS1 and he was fully weaned and onto formula by the time he was 6 months old. It felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders when we finally finished BF'ing. He was hard work too!
MummeNurse - I'd love to see that video too, I'll have to PM you
Misty - Thanks for your suggestions re: travelling in the car. I am not against DVD's if it means no crying LOL!
Willow - I don't like our chances of Alana changing between now and September unfortunately. She's only 7.6kg (weighed last Thurs) so she's not big enough to try forward facing just yet. It is something we want to try, but we just have to wait until she beefs up a bit haha! Is D still sleeping well now that he's popped a tooth?
AFU - Still talking about our trip. I'm thinking it might be best to wait until the March/April school hols next year. That way it's not postponed for as long. Will have to talk to DH about it. I don't know if it's a girl thing, Alana seems a bit of a drama queen compared to the boys! DS1 didn't like the car for a while, but he wasn't as bad as Alana. DS2 has always been a dream traveller. She can really crack it when she's not happy about something - like getting dressed, getting bathed, getting fed, etc. It always seems to be such a drama!! She's my happiest baby in other ways though, they're all so different!!
She still hasn't got any teeth yet! My boys got them at around 6 months of age. Our health nurse said she could feel some very close to the surface. Oh, and she doesn't sit up conventionally. She sits on her knees ITMS? I used to sit like that too!
Anyway, she's stirring, better go resettle her. Have a great night everyone
