Hey girlies, back on after an hour and a half walk in the forest with the princess

So for me it is not actually mother's day, well it is in the USA, but having a French husband and living in Belgium means I don't get mother's day until June! So all of my american and anglo friends have wished me a happy mother's day but I am like, well DH is away on a boys motorcycle trip ...lol. I am sure he will plan something great for the french mother's day and I am sure we'll be celebrating with the in laws.

Alison, that girl is so damn annoying. I am sure she was overweight when she got preg and is still not down - I feel like she is just a fake bragger. But if it motivates you to keep going, then let's just say she lost it all... She is just annoying with her bragging - I don't even know her and she annoys me! PS - what a nice pendant! I saw your pics on facebook - Amelia was dressed so cute! And you look really good by the way! You can see that you are losing and feeling better!

Lani, I am glad your day was so gorgeous - you deserve it ! Isn't it great having our babies then getting spoiled by Dh! We really are a lucky bunch.

Beany, I recently weaned Eva off of the 1s - it was actually DH that sort of insisted, because she would take super long to feed and he noticed she would really get tired by the end of a bottle and we found that she sucked hard and got more gas.... We started switching over to 2s but she would get milk all over the place and have to be changed after every feed. And finally DH just wanted to try only using 2s and that worked, although she does dribble a bit more than with the 1s but she finishes faster and is less problematic with food and finishes her bottles wich she was not doing every time before...I think the 2 teats are what helped her get to the 4 hour feeding sched - she is like clockwork now. For the sleeping I have to also go in and put the dummy back quite often sometimes, but it is because Eva will drop it to nibble on her plush, then she won't settle back down to sleep so I have to pop it back in etc...but she is not fussy at all. She looooves her bed a lot. Yay for the rolling!!! Eva rolled again on Saturday a few times but has stopped again...I don't get that girl... lol...She also reacts to be picked up but instead of lifting her arms she arches up gher back, like she wants to sit up to meet the person, but it must have been so cute to see him strecth out! I can't wait to see her do that! - as for Mother's day, it is nice of you to have spoiled so many other people but you deserve a great WE so I am glad DH will make it up to you next week!

Rose, I am glad you're belly sleeping him - with Eva it made a HUGE difference. I am really sorry about him not taking a bottle. Eva was the same too, I think that since they are in pain it becomes a comfort thing...have you tried to get DH to give it? I had to try the bottle about 5 times before she took it well, and the first time I gave her formula it was also a few tries, because they don't recognize the taste so if you really want him taking it, then you should just try a few times and nurse if he complains, but he'll eventually get it...But be sure you want to go there. I think you are having a hard week, so try to rest...I know how that feels - I broke down with eva at the beginning twice with formula (the only two times ever before I stopped at 4 months, and I had to really keep giving it to her and dripping some milk in her mouth and then I remember her being so full and sleeping for like 5 hours - at that point I needed that so much - it was during one of those 4am hysterical I am going to throw this baby out of the window nights. So I do hope the feeling passes but if you are really at wits end, then don't feel bad giving one bottle, as it might just help you get back a bit of sanity. What did your doctor say? Ours told us that she had to take her meds until 5 months and one the meds she was much better...we had something called omneoprezole, which was actually an adult medicine, that the pharmacy had to make into baby syrup for her - the gaviscon here is over the counter, so maybe you should see if you can get a prescription for something more potent? I only had to give it every morning, and it really changed her overnight...The prob with reflux is that if it continues for so long it damages the esophagus, and he will have a longer healing process to go through, so maybe see if you can get something stronger? What we had was an acid neutralizer and it really was amazing for her. I really hope he settles down for you soon. It has to end soon, no? The poor little guy Congrats ont he wii and I hope this week is waaaay better than the last!

AFM, well I finished packing Eva's bag of supplies for daycare...I enjoyed every moment of today with her. I am so sad she is starting but am happy she will be able to socialize and get out of the house (although my house is better equipped with toys than any daycare ont he planet!) - She only goes in three days a week and MIL will keep her for Thru and Fri so I can run upstairs and see her on those afternoons (our office and apt are int he same building). I am also happy to get back to a sort of schedule and to do some work. DH needs me there so I need to get back to it.

As for the rolling, like I mentioned, she did it a few times the morning after I filmed her and no more after that! At least I got it on film this time - last time I told DH and he was watching her for days waiting for the roll that never came

She has gotten great with her solids and is feeding herself larger quantities (I put up some pics) and she LOVES her cup - I gave her a tiny bit of water just to get her using the cup and she kept wanting more and more. I also bought a sort of clip on handle for her bottles so she can get used to holding her bottles, and later her cup and she has been holding her own bottles for a part of her feed. So I am happy to report that her solids thing seems to be advancing and that's good because she seems a lot more hungry (she even woke up at 330am for a night feed yesterday! so had 5 feeds instead of 4 today).

She is getting slightly clingy with me though, and complains when I leave the room - I think it is the ww thing...I just hope that won't be a problem when I have to leave her at daycare - this week is just an initiation week of half days and tom I will prob be told to stay with her so I don't think I'll go nuts tom and DH gets back tom night, so at least if I am a wreck Tuesday he can console me

Anyway girls, I am off to catch up on the no sleep from last night and keep your fingers crossed for me for tom (that I don't cry!!! lol - I won't but I might feel like it!).

    xoxo

    Hey girls,

First, I won't do persies today. Sorry. I'll try and be quick cause I'm out and about today. But I just wanted to pop in and let you know I'm always thinking of you all. Thank God for Facebook!

I hope everyone had lovely Mother's Days - I saw that a few of you had beautiful days and were spoilt, as you should be!

To be honest mine was fairly average. DH and I ended up having a major fight and I was in tears. Not a nice way to start your first Mother's Day...

Things are going really well at the moment. Jack is now self-settling (after 9 days of persisting) during the day and only wakes once at night. Yippeeee! Makes such a big difference. Basically, I've followed the advice in Save Our Sleep by Tizzie Hall. I'm not following her routine, but more on how to self-settle. I wrap him, put on his music (Massive Attack) and then put him in the cot, facing his little monkey toy. I lay my hand on his chest and say "Night baby" and then leave. At first he would winge and cry but now he just stares at his monkey and then when I go in later he's fast asleep. BRILLIANT!

He's still loving his solids and has three meals a day. I love coming up with new combinations. Right now he's loving broccoli, peas and apple! Jamie Oliver's wife, Jules, put out a book a while ago and I use that as inspiration for his solids.

And BS, Jack is sitting on his own now too. It's so much better because he would often get frustrated on his tum. There's a physio at the playgroup we go to and she gives us tips on how to help them get great balance for sitting and crawling, so I make sure I do that with him every day.

Alison, I put weight on this week too - about 300 grams. I have no idea how I did it. It sucks because you try so hard. But you just have to keep going.

Anyway, I best be off. Have a great day girls. xx

Carmey, sorry to hear about the fight

Yay for Jack! Please share the balance tips!

At daycare they said it is not too good to leave them seated too much on their own until they can actually pick themselves up on their own since their backs are not strong enough...I give Eva seated playtime and she loves it too, but I try to also give her a lot of seated time with me supporting her so that I don't tax her back too much.

A quickie update on daycare - I am in initiation week so the time gradually goes up each day. First day was one hour and she loooved it - she was playing on the floor and having a great time and not even looking for me!

Second day was a bit diff - we had to go get DH at the qirport the night before so her sched was off, and then this morning I had to wake her up a bit since she was still sleeping when we had to leave. So I think she was overtired. We arrived and too many people came at her to say hi and she just started crying since she could not see me anymore...whatever, she stopped once I was near her then we put her to play and the girl who is responsible for her tried to feed her but Eva just would not have it - she was screaming not to eat! She was tired and stressed and her discomfort is always expressed through her food So the girl managed to calm her down very nicely (and is really nice and affectionate with her, so I am happy for that)...and was playing with her and everytime she started trying to feed her Eva screamed and would not take it. After about two hours where she had a nice time, she started crying again when the girl tried to feed her, so the girl said that she had prob had enough for the day. She fell asleep on the ride home, then woke up when we got home, ate like a champ and was super smiley and happy. The whole deal just made me a bit stressed, and they mentioned that if she has issues next week it would be nice if I was available and I said of course I can leave work whenever needed (lucky to be working for my hubby )...so I do hope tom is better...

I'll try to update at the end of the week with the rest!

    Hi girls!

Just popping in quickly, so no persies, will try to do them later on.

Things are still being really hard - Liam was waking pretty much on the hour every hour last night. We ended up bringing him into bed with us at about 4am (actually, DH did, which surprised me) and managed a two hour block of sleep.

BS - Liam's been on Losec since he was 2 weeks old. We didn't mess around with it since I have a scary family history of reflux and stomach ulcers (and I've been on meds for it since I was 18). Our GP said that we'll be able to try weaning him off it when he's sitting up and/or on solids. I'm hoping we'll be able to, but if we can't, it's not the end of the world. I know a couple of people who had to keep their kids on it until they were 18 months.

We're all pretty exhausted today, though, Liam included. We did try Liam on solids today for the first time (rice cereal) - I'm still planning on doing mostly baby-led weaning (which is essentially giving babies finger foods from day one and letting them feed themselves), but since he's a few weeks shy of six months, I figured it was better to go with the safest option. It was funny today, though - I was eating some yoghurt and Liam kept on trying to steal it. So I'm thinking he's ready for solids

Little bugger knew what to do with the spoon, too! I pretty much just loaded it up and let him help himself, rather than forcing it down his throat. He mostly mucked about with it and chewed on the spoon, but I think he possibly got a little down. He's lying on the couch next to DH happily gumming a teething ring, now, so it's all looking good so far. We'll keep going with the rice cereal for a week or two before trying anything else.

I'm pretty sure he's making a concerted effort to crawl, now, too. He can't quite co-ordinate it, but he's certainly trying.

(It's ace that you guys are interested in Kawazuki's business, but remember to keep business off the forums (no-one's done anything wrong, I'm just nipping this in the bud is all) - I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you PM'd her. As you were. xo)

    Hello my lovelies!

Suz - Oh thats so cute about Ryan watching the fish! Bless

BS - What bottles/teats do you use? I'm currently using Avent, which I have had no problems with. Just seems the jump from the 2-hole teat to the 3-hole seems a bit big. I've started using Pigeon teats with the Avent bottles which seem a little faster but not too fast...buuut, I'm slightly suspicious that they may be giving him more gas. Hmm. Its so wierd how they do things in spurts, its like they forget how to do things from one day to the next! Blimey, I hadn't even thought of that, with Michael too at Daycare, he doesn't like anyone except me or DH feeding him. Hopefully she'll get used to the person who feeds her then it won't be so strange having someone other than you or DH feeding her.

Carmey - Haha, fb is fantastic, isn't it? What on earth did we all do without it?? Sorry to hear your Mothers Day wasn't as you'd hoped...maybe next year! (thats what I tell myself anyway!).

Rose - Oh sorry to hear Liam is waking up so frequently. thats happened a few times to me, you just feel completely wrecked, so I can sympathise. I really hope he starts sleeping more for you... Gosh, so Liam wasn't repulsed by the rice cereal? I tried Michael again with it the other day...still not interested! Getting slightly worried...but maybe I should try some vegies on the w/e, perhaps its the taste he's not keen on. We shall see. Sounds like Liam's making lots of progress...ww perhaps?

    Hello everyone else!

AFM - Gosh, what a busy week I've had! Took Michael to the doc yesterday cos the eczema on his back is getting worse. He's given me a prescription for some cream...but I'll hold off a few days before I try that. He also suggested using Aqueous Cream when we bath him so I'll see if that makes a diff first. Also asked for his opinion on those willy rice-blister things - he thinks they'll go away on their own eventually, nothing to worry about. So I feel better now, he's a great doc.

Started the whole childcare ball rolling...got him down on the waiting list for Family Day Care, and went to "inspect" one centre today, which was okaaay. But then I have nothing to compare it to, so anyway, put his name down there...going to another one on Friday morn and will prolly put his name down there. I'd say 3-4 places should be enough, yeah?

Michael has been such a dream lately. His night sleeps have vastly improved (oh, touch wood...I hope I'm not speaking too soon!), and he's so chirpy during the day. I"m loving it!

Hope you all have a decent nights sleep!

    Hi girls

I'm a bit behind so I don't know how the brain will cope with perssies!

Sounds like everyone had a good mothers day...except Carmey sorry it wasn't a great first one for you And Beany sounds like yours was a bit busy with not much pampering for you, here's hoping he makes it up to you this weekend, it hard when there's lots of mums I guess.

Rose I hear you on the frequent feeds at night omg it gets so hard to cope with! Don't feel bad about trying the formula I very nearly did myself one night last week I think the only thing that stopped me was it was late, I couldn't remember where the bottles were, and I decided I was too tired to get out of bed and get it all sorted. I haven't even tried Harry on any EBM yet I really should get onto that too.

Hi Lani Good to hear from you!

Alison and Carmey you said you both gained about 300g this week, where are you in your cycles, could be fluid. Or Carmey maybe you built muscle you are very active!

BS Good luck with going back to work and leaving Eva at day care, sounds like a great place she's going to though, very caring and asking you to be available in case she freaks a bit next week is good.

Suzi Sounds like you're getting heaps done at home that you wanted, very cute with Craig and the fish! I love watching fish, but I'm way too lazy to have another tank, I end up neglecting them, and that's just an average cold water tank. "lazy Libran!"

Kawa Woohoo nearly a SAHM!! ...Good on you for turning your hobby into..umm a possible income...don't want to say too much, was going to ask you about it, but didn't realise it was a no no might PM you, or do you have FB? No probs if you do but want to keep it separate from BB though we can PM if we want details of your business.

Kanda Glad you're enjoying Italy and the girls are being so good for you!

AFM Things seem to be coming along with the extension, the kitchen is nearly done. There was a stuff up with part of the bench top and two of the cupboard doors but it shouldn't hold things up too much...I hope...I'm getting excited now, like Suzi said on FB WOOHOO! The kitchen is small, but I won't be sharing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Harry has been pretty horrible this week, I'm with you girls on thinking WW, his feeds are a fight again if anyone in the room speaks it's all over crying and refuses to eat again, there's been a couple of nights of hourly feeds again, and this morning he was *up* earlier that usual which was one of the signs of the start of the last WW. I've spent most of the last couple of days with him on my back in the Ergo, that was a very good investment! The teething seems to have settled a bit I think, no teeth, but the drooling and biting seem to have settled, for now anyway.

Well I best be off to try to eat while he's sleeping or I might miss out!

Oh and sorry Nelle I didn't realise that business talk was a no go in the forums I'll have to have a refresher look in the guidelines. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi Willow, I'm mid cycle - just ovulated last weekend, do you retain more fluid at that time or right before AF? I'm always heavier when I'm about to get or have AF, sux! I snuck a weigh in this morning and I'm down 1kg again, honestly talk about fluctuate!!!! What worries me is I'm going away to the holiday house with friends and their bub this weekend so I'm going to have to try and be good, normally it's cheese and bikkies and god knows what else lol! Yay for the extensions, checked out the pics today and it's looking so good. We have the option of (when the inlaws move next door gulp) to buy the house they're in at the moment for whatever we sell ours for....interesting as they're on 3 acres about 10 minutes away so is definitely worth more for the land alone. Only thing is it's "their" house and I feel it always will be. DH is going to spend $150,000 doing it up because it's 80's and ugly but I still have a dilemma. DH wants to live in it for the land, he thinks it will be great for kids to have room to run around, we're on a very small block (hence the 2 storey house) and have no room for a swing set or the like. If I can get past the fact I hate the house (DH promises it will look brand new when he's finished with it) and his parents remember it will be ours I might not feel so negative about the whole thing. I will miss being so close to the ocean though, and across from a lovely park - but I guess it's only 10 minutes away in the car. Half of me wants to, the other half doesn't. It just seems so hard to imagine the house looking nice - we built the one we're in now so it's all new and nice.....I guess I'll have to see how it looks when it's finished. Sounds snobby I know but this house is dark and old and ugly, I just don't get a nice vibe the way it is. DH has promised shiny floorboards which I really wanted here and wasn't allowed (lol) and even possibly a pool - it's already got a spa! I probably sound stupid even contemplating knocking the opportunity down, DH reckons we'll never get the chance to buy 3 acres of land for the price we'll buy it for and I do agree with that and the fact it would be nice to have some open space for kids to run around in. I told him he'd have to build me a super dooper cubby house for Amelia. hee hee

Hi Beany - oooh childcare, are you planning on going back to work? I really don't want to but I will have to, at least to resign, haven't decided yet. I just don't have any ambition to go back but who knows how I'll feel in another 5 months......I'm freaking out that I'm halfway through my leave already! I just love being a SAHM so much - although I miss the nice paypacket....just seems there's more to life at the mo.

Hi Everyone else - how are you all and your beautiful bubbas?

Well I won't be on much after tonight as I'm heading down to the holiday house tomorrow but back on Sunday so will check back in then.

    Have a great weekend lovelies.

Hello! My goodness...where has everyone gone? V quiet in here!

Willow - Ahh yes, DH did make it up to me. We went for a lovely (but cold) walk around Fremantle followed by a nice hot Chai Latte at Dome...yummo! Michael was on his best behaviour...so chatty and happy Great news about your extension, sooo exciting! Yeah, Michael gets like that with feeds. I hate feeding him around other people, he pulls away, cries, carries on like a pork chop...I'm sure they must think I'm torturing him. He's a perfect angel at home!

Alison - I know what you mean about that house not feeling like yours, but I'm sure once your DH has finished with it, it'll be fantastic! Well...I don't neeeeed to go back to work. I mean, we could survive on one income, just. But if I were to go back it would only ever be for 2 days a week. I dunno...I feel bad about leaving him at child care...but then part of me thinks he needs as much socialising as possible and maybe its all not as bad as ppl make it out to be..and the extra money would be handy, esp if these bloomin interest rates keep going up. Hmm...I dunno. I'm prolly about 80% goign back, 20% not. Unless DH gets a payrise!! Definitely agree there is more to life now...work is sooo not anywhere on my priority list, apart from needing the money. If we could afford to, I'd stay home without a 2nd thought. How was your weekend? Cold I bet!

A big hello to everyone else!

AFM - going well here. Tho, I wonder if maybe Michael is coming down with a cold...he has a runny nose today and is a bit cranky. Hmm....will keep an eye on it. No sign of any more teeth, tho he has his hand in there most of the time, so I"m sure something is goign on.

He had a few days of waking up only once during the night, which was bliss. But last night he woke up at 3.30 and didn't go back to sleep till after 4.30...he was just wide awake playing around. Hopefully tonight will be better.

How is everyone going with solids? Tried him with pumpkin today, since we've had 3 failed attempts with Farex, still not interested. Tho he must have swallowed some since he did some orange spew a few minutes later! Ah well...I'll keep trying!

    Hi girls,

Alison Well me personally, I bloat a bit round O time, which I guess could add a few 100gms, maybe? And I def weigh heavier in the lead up to and the first day or two at least of AF.
If you were down 1kg though the next day I think you're doing alright!

Beany Glad to hear your "make up" mothers day was nice
Feeds n public are a bit difficult, like you I'm sure people think he's not hungry and I'm torturing him by force feeding!
Haven't tried the solids yet here, I think he really would like to have a go at some, very interested in our food. I have given him a raw peeled carrot a couple of times when his teeth sore bothering him and he seems to know it's not a toy he chomps on it a bit then puts it in and sucks like he's trying to get milk out of it so I think he likes the taste and knows he's maybe supposed to eat it...bit hard with no teeth though I also gave him a taste of the juice, well flavour on my finger of the olives I was eating the other night, he was trying desperately to grab them, and he seemed to like that too! All my boys have loved savoury stuff since they were little I guess he's not the exception. I'm still trying to hang out until the 6 month mark before giving him any solids he can really eat though.
They say if they spit it out, they're not ready to eat just yet, it's a reflex and they'll lose it and swallow when they are ready, I guess you just leave it a few days an keep offering, like you're doing

AFM Harry's learnt to roll to get to where he wants to go now, not just roll over, his favourite place is under the coffee table trying to play with the wood underneath, but he can only roll to the left with his nappy on so he gets cranky when he gets stuck up against the lounge. He's also practising his language skills madly now too, yesterday at the soccer he was even looking at the people over my shoulder and giving a grunt at them every now and then to get them to look at him, very cute. Although he only likes people to talk to him when he initiates it, if a stranger just randomly comes to talk to him he tends to start crying Funny creature they are sometimes

Hope everyone's doing ok, I'll catch up later

Oh and Alison I remember you talking about the house situation a while back. I'd be exactly like you I think, not feeling like it was mine, any chance of a knock down - rebuild? Seriously, it's not supposed to be that expensive, and if DH is going to be spending $$$ to renovated then maybe that's an option? Then you could really make it yours at the same time as keeping the block, sounds like a fair deal to me!

Hi Beany - funnily enough it was colder in Perth than down south lol! As for solids, Amelia doesn't like the Farex much but still eats it.........try putting some apple in it - I haven't done that yet as I want to try vegies first but my friend's baby didn't take it until she put in apple or pear. Also, try the Raffertys Garden brand, apparently it's better as its organic anyway. Have you tried rusks? I gave Amelia one on the weekend and she loved it! I'm trying pumpkin and sweet potato tomoz so I will let you know how I go.

Hi Willow - re the house, DH said it's not viable to knock down and start again, he has some money to spend rather than giving it to the tax dept but it's not enough to start again and it has to be on the house as the office is there so he can write it off. Hope that makes sense? Go Harry hee hee - he's so cute, I just love that pic of him with your other son, just beautiful. You have some good looking boys there mate.

Hi Rose - how are you and Liam? We must organise another catch up soon.

How is everyone? I'm coming down with a cold, knew I would - I've just spent the weekend at our holiday house with friends and they had the end of a cold - booooo, I hope I don't give it to Amelia but what can you do!

Just a quickie tonight as totally shattered and need to go to bed......the self settling is going great - it's only taken a week and I put Amelia down awake (but tired) - I just put her straight on her tummy as she just rolls anyway and pat her bum a couple of times, say nighty night and walk out - she is left staring at the cot aquarium thingy and listening to her music and that's it, no fuss, no crying - it's amazing how quick they learn! Let's hope it stays that way. Also, the food is coming along, made up a massive batch of pumpkin, sweet potato and swede today, will try at lunch tomorrow. Who else feeds just twice a day? Mum said to give it to her at lunch not dinner until her digestive system gets used to it otherwise it just sits in their belly when they go to bed. Does it really matter?

Hope everyone and their bubbies are well.

    Love to all.
    xx

    Hi Girls!

I've been reading but haven't had time to post for ages!

Alison - Well done with the self settling and the solids so far. Glad you had a nice weekend away, shame about the cold. Everyone says to start solids at lunchtime, I'm not sure why that is. I don't think it really matters.

Willow - I was so excited when I saw your FB pics of your kitchen! Not having to share one will be so good. Ryan's the same as Harry, trying to steal anything I'm eating. I was going to hold out until 6 months, but he's been so miserable with the teething that if it's finger food he's trying to steal then I've let him have some. I bought this little net thingy with a handle on it for Craig but he never liked it. You put the food in the little net and they suck and chew on the mesh and it sort of mashes the food through. But they can't bite any big bits off. I stuck some watermelon in it for Ryan the other day (because he was trying to steal some) and he loved it! I guess it's baby-led solids of a sort.

Beany - Don't worry with the solids, keep trying and he'll get it. Is his tongue pushing the food back out? I hope he's not getting a cold. Sounds like you had a lovely make up Mother's Day. I totally agree with kids needing socialising and I think it cancels out the 'evils' of childcare. One of our closest friends uses the grandparents to mind their toddler and he can go weeks without seeing other kids his age. Then we have dramas when we visit because he gets agressive and won't share. Hope Michael's eczema is clearing up.

Rose - How's Liam's sleep going? And the rice cereal? Isn't it funny how they work out what to do with the spoon? Craig was so determined to feed himself but would chew on the spoon mostly, so I used to give him one and use one to actually put food in.

Carmey - Sorry to hear about your fight with DH on Mother's Day. Hope you guys got to make up. Well done with the self-settling! That's pretty much what I do with Ryan at night bedtime. What balance tips did you get for sitting and crawling? Ryan gets really frustrated on his tummy and often spews, so life would be much better for him if he could sit.

Brussels - How did the childcare go? She's probably settled and feeding well at daycare now. You're a brave girl well done.

Sounds like Wonder Weeks all round for everyone! Hope all the bubbas settle back in to sleeping and eating normally soon.

AFM - We've been pretty busy since Mother's Day. My SIL and niece came over for dinner and we had Lamb Roast and I made a Gooey Chocolate Stack cake. Then I spent the rest of the week cleaning the house until my Father and Step Mother arrived on Sunday. They stayed in a hotel, but spent 2 whole days with us. When I was 17 I had a huge fight with my Father and Step-Mother and we stopped talking alltogether when I was 18. I wrote him a letter apologising and trying to make contact again about a year after that, but didn't hear from him again for 14 years! Since then we've emailed and phoned each other and he visited after Craig was born. But things are still hard for me and even though it was nice to see them, I'm glad they've gone. Looking forward to getting back to having the boys sleep when they need it, feed them when they need it and look after my diet and exercise again.

Hi Suzi Harry gets cranky and spews when he's on his tummy sometimes too, not so much now that he can roll over when he wants, but it's gross when they have a spew then smoosh it with their hands and or face!

Glad the visit with your father and step mother went ok, must've been both good and awkward after so long to spend that much time together, maybe next time will be easier...if there is a next time I guess...

You have no idea how excited I am about MY kitchen
Nothing else has happened though since last Thursday but hopefully they'll get on with it soon!

I am thinking that if Harry really wants to eat and he actually does eat, like you said if his tongue doesn't push the food out I might give in and give him some this week, just a bit of steamed carrot or something, finger food style, I must get the Baby led solids book and have a look, I'm really good at leaving things until the last minute!

Good luck back on your diet and getting yours and the boys routines back!

Hi Alison The pics with the big boys and Harry are cute
Hope your cold doesn't hit too hard!
Sounds like the self settling is going great too, I wish I could say the same for Harry, but sadly no way! I really should get onto making a change, but it's a bit of a catch 22, I'm so tired I can't face the extra effort, the thought of losing any of the little sleep I do get is horrifying but I know if I don't try I won't get there. Maybe, just maybe when solids come into play he'll sleep better, but I'm not counting on it, it didn't work with DS1

I understand about the house, not being able to knock down, bummer though! Could you completely gut it? No need for council/government approval to change the inside! But you've probably thought of all that already, keep us posted on how you go. Believe me I understand, I've got the ILs in the same house! Even after the extension they're still going to be right there next door, not even across the road, omg maybe I'm insane!

Well I should be off and do something productive before Harry wakes up bye all.

Hi Girls - I just posted a long reply and the system crashed!

I've woken up with a head cold, grrrr - I never got one cold last year and I was pregnant and now this year in the last month I've been ill twice - although I'd rather a cold over gastro any day! How do you avoid passing it onto your baby? I'm avoiding kissing Amelia but I guess just being in the same house she'll either get it or she won't huh. DH had a bit of a cold last week and the friends we were with on the weekend were just getting over one. They did check with me before coming away and I said not to worry....perhaps that was a bad decision. Their bub had the snottiest nose and horrible cough....I just hope Amelia is ok, she has small nasal passages as it is, as someone who suffers crappy sinuses I feel bad that I've probably passed that on!

Anyhoo, Hi Suz - we have the jungle one too hee hee - it's cute huh. I just put Millie down, went and had a shower and she's asleep! I'm stoked this self settling has worked so quickly, a week ago I was really stressing about whether or not it would work and how long it would take. I guess we don't give our bubs enough credit some times do we.

Hi Beany - on the Farex, Amelia wasn't keen either so yesterday I bought some Raffertys Garden Organic Baby Rice Cereal (I got mine at Woollies) in the purple packet and this morning she devoured it! My friend suggested it as her baby didn't like Farex either, not sure what's different but she definitely liked it, she kept opening her mouth and trying to reach for the spoon for more. Give it a go, you never know. I'm trying the pumpkin and sweet potato today for lunch, will let you know how it goes!

Hi Everyone else - how are we all today?

Looks like a midday movie and some scrapbooking (when Amelia is sleeping) for me today, can't be stuffed going anywhere with this yukky nose.

Hey girls! I know I have been MIA, but getting Eva into daycare and starting work has been crazy. Then every second I have her home I am clingy

Rose, Eva did the same the first time - IU kept one spoon and she had another and she was feeding herself sort of messily and I would follow up with little spoons...she still is not so great with the veggies, but the other night I tried fruits and she LOVED it...Looks like she has a sweet tooth like her papa...

Beany, I use tommee tippee, so the shift from 2-3 seemed a bit large, but now she has no problems...it is just a matter of getting used to it - there was a week where she was dribbling a lot of milk...The avent bottles gave her awful gas at first so I don't use them anymore...I think it is important to let guests and other people feed him - Eva freaked out the first day and woudl not eat but she got used to it quickly, and by this week she has been a dream (I'll get to that). What does his eczema look like? Eva has started getting litte dry patches on her elbow and her butt...I put cream on it, and am not sure if it is just dry skin or eczema - is there a particular characteristic the eczema has? I tried googling it but I only see super crazy cases so I don't know what a basic case looks like...For the daycare thing, talk to to other parents, even if it means trying to come by to watch in the late afternoon and hunting some down in the hallways :-) If the kids look happy and the caretakers are affectionate with them that is already good. Check for cleanliness and hygenic supplies (hand washing posts, clean towels, antibacterial soap and see if they use it!)...In any case there are germs and drool no matter what you do, but it is important that the people caring for him be kind and patient and answer your questions. If they tell you to come mid day that is good since it means that they are focused on caring for the kids in the day and during pickup and lunch. Ask if they have a week where you come in with him while he gets used to it - that is what matters. Good luck - it is really hard to leave them but it is ok - they start enjoying it pretty fast. It is def harder for us!

Willow, I saw your puics of Harry! He is hilarious! Eva does not roll that much, just fron tot back, back to front - I don't think she has realized that she can roll with purpose! Yay for the kitchen! Can't wait to see the whole thing finished! It is so exciting getting the house in order!

Suz, Sukcs about your father but it is good to see he is trying and it is nice for the boys to have their grandparents around - all of our issues go out of the window for our babies, don't they...But I get you on being happy to get back into the swing of things. Especially with babies so young it is nice to have our little rythm at least during their waking hours...

Alison, yay for Amelia and the solids! I saw her pics! None of those Eva faces for her...lol...She seems very ready and very happy to be a big girl I hope you feel better. You guys have winter coming, so it sucks since all the bugs starts spreading now...I am supposed to be in summer here but it is cold and rainy, boo, northern European weather! As for lunch or dinner for solids, lunch is better. My friend has tried both and she said the baby cries with tummy pain when it is given too late, I also noticed that Eva spits up more when I give her solids and when it is in the eve she sleeps really badly, so I do think it is just to let their tummies get used to digesting the solids (and give them time to break it down by sleep time).

Update on Eva now So the first week in daycare was really hard, she refused to eat - the first day was fun for her since she only had to stay for about an hour and play, the second day she refused to eat and the caretaker had to keep her in her arms for half a day, put her to sleep in her arms, then when she woke up she took a half serving of food...then I brought her home and she ate two hours later, lots of solids and a whole bottel then slept for like 4 hours! Third day was slightly better, she ate almost one whole bottle. On the last day (thursday was a holiday here so she stayed home)...she napped and ate half a meal then a whole one. Monday was her first full day from 830-330 and they said she was great and thet they barely felt her there, she played, ate and slept with no problem! They were amazed at how she never gets tired on her belly...They said she is great with self entertaining and self settling for sleep. So all in all great. The lady who is responsible for her is so great, she is super affectionate, loves her and kisses her all the time and Eva smiles now when she sees her. She even grabs her face when saying goodbye, which she only does to me and her grandmother So I do feel much better about the whole thing and am happy to get back to DHs side in the office. I will be gettin gout of work at 3 every day now and probably working out every day for about an hour then picking her up around 415 (her daycare is really close to the house).

So I was really stressed the whole of last week, and having serious anxiety in case she didn't eat or whatever. Yesterday was her first day and I def had some anxiety for that and ended up with a splitting migraine and in bed, so I missed the lady gaga concert I had tix for last night I was so upset since I was really looking forward to a night out with girlfriends and seeing gaga....I would have cried if my head was not hurting so bad. Last muigraine was right before flying to NY so I think they are triggered by stress and fatigue. I have to rest more...

She started rolling front to back and back to front so she does both now And she likes fruits more than veggies so I might just have to get her used to fruits first...This girls is seriously a mini version of her papa...I hate sweets and he loooves them and she seems to be like him!

Otherwise, am back to work so let me get to it - I have 6 months of disorder to organize!

    xoxo

Hi BS So good to hear day care is going ok I am dreading having to leave Harry I think I feel really bad about it because he doesn't self settle and still feeds to sleep and is very clingy so I can't bear the thought of leaving him with strangers just yet.
I completely understand you being clingy when you're home with Eva now I would be exactly the same!!

As for the eczema my DP has a little bit and it does look like little red dry patches, and I think that the elbows is a pretty classic place for it too, not that I'm an expert but I'm sure I've heard that elbows and behind knees too are common places for it to start, so maybe it is, did it coincide with anything new or different? You might be able to track it to something, new bath stuff, soap or a lotion, or maybe one of the new foods?

Bummer you missed GaGa! That would have been really disappointing for you

Hi Alison Hope the nasty goes away quickly! xx
