BS - Thank you so much for that huge post, it's really helpful. Liam's been on Losec since he was 2 weeks old (and we just recently upped his dose, so he gets it twice a day). I think it really does help, but he still has some reflux. Which doesn't surprise me, since we have a huge family history and my own reflux needs heavy duty meds to keep controlled. I'm hoping that it'll get easier for him as he sits up more and eats more solids.

I've been toying with the idea of trying to introduce some formula (and move to combination feeding) to see if it helps, too. Liam's actually taken water in a bottle a few times recently, which makes me think that he might be okay with a bottle of formula. I'll see how he goes with one change at a time, though.

Anyway. Last night was his first night in his room. He went down fairly easily after his bath, woke 40 minutes later because he had a burp (which is common for him - no matter how much I burp him, sometimes it seems to take ages for the gas to collect in his belly enough to come up. After that, he slept in 3 hour chunks all night, going back to sleep pretty quickly each time after a feed. He woke at 6:30am, and I brought him into bed for a cuddle, and he fell asleep there for another hour. I think he got far more sleep than me, though - I felt really sad not having him there, and it took me ages to get to sleep, since I kept on waiting to hear him over the monitor.

His naps have been okay today (for him) - he actually did 1.5 hours in the late morning/early afternoon, but then didn't nap after that. I even tried taking him for a long walk in the pram, but he cracked it the whole time. He's really developed a hatred for the pram of late.

So it's a work in progress. One change at a time, so I'm working on his night sleep first, and then it'll be naps. I'd been thinking of taking him to a chiro or osteo for a while to see if it helps, and I think it might be time to chase one up.

Rose, didn't I tell you ? I was miserable without her in the room the first few nights too, but soon you'll be sleeping wonderfully too. The first few night I kept going in to check on her every hour even though I didn't hear her at all...I just could not deal with not seeing her sleeping, but now, it is great since she goes down and we can go on with our stuff in the house and not worry about waking her since she is in her nice quiet room - I do have a monitor attached to my shirt 95% of the time that she is in bed though...it's my new high fashion accessory!

This is good for him but it just makes you realize he is growing up fast which is sad for us but so exciting at the same time. I am glad the shift went well. Focus on his night sleeps for a while then you'll know when he is ready for the rest - I don't know why I thought you said you give him gaviscon...Losec is stronger I imagine? Good, then he will get over it when his body is ready. As for the formula, if you are ok with giving it to him, then good luck and it might help a lot, even if only one bottle a day before bed or something - at least DH can give it to him and let you get a head start on your sleep

Keep me posted on how it goes...I have a feeling you are coming out of the hard phase and he is going to start settling down soon.

Seriously go to a chiro or osteo - I did not believe what a diff it made. DH is very osteo and all that but not me...and DH was at the osteo for his arm talking about Eva's crying every night and the osteo told him, bring her in today and pushed us in between two other clients..he said he hates hearing babies cry and it breaks his heart (he is great with babies and that is why he specializes in baby care)...I was still sceptical but I was amazed afterwards. Let me know how that goes.

Oh and I don't know if you remember that tiping trick I told you guys about for burping but our osteo told us about it for reflux babies and it works wonders - facing you you tip Liam back then back up then three times slowly down to the right, - that brings the air up super fast - It worked wonders on Eva.

    xoxo

Yay Rose that's fantastic! I wonder if you will find he starts settling better now he's in his own room. Whilst we think they feel more comforted being with us every move and sound might stir him. Amelia went into her own room/cot at 9 weeks and that's when she started sleeping all night so hopefully you'll have the same. See you this arvo, can't wait to catch up again! xx

    That's such fantastic news Rose!

AFM - Can't say we enjoyed a good night last night after such a good day. I've basically been up since 3:30am. We finally have our old cot from Hobart and got rid of the hire cot. But our cot is a lot wider and she's missing being able to stretch out and stroke the bars of the cot. You should see her! I put her down and she wriggles around trying to stretch and reach and then when she can't feel them she wakes up! So I tried putting her closer to one side but she still didn't like it. So I tried putting her in awake and she wouldn't settle. I think I might start wrapping her at night again until she forgets about her old cot. I still wrap her during the day. Any other ideas???

OMG Tilda they're funny sometimes! What about maybe diagonal with her head sort of in the corner, could she reach the bars from there? Or maybe you could rig up a false side with a bed rail, only if it could be done safely though?? Good luck.

    .
hi Tilda, thank you fr replying..
DH si just being odd, like being evryd istant from me, not cuddling me, not realy answering em etc, i dont know maybe im paranoid, he is getting worked over time every day and i think its taking its toll.

i d it for my sanity lol, the markets give me a day child free and able to talk about cloth which i love and meet litlle babies and parents. its fab, and sewing is my form of relaxation. lol weir di know, but when im sitting sewing nothing else matters.

no im not 100%, im very emotional at the moment, im loosing hair liek nothing else, im snapping at teh kids, im not tired i feel like i have energy just no motivation
im going to see my doc on teh 2nd july so will talk then.
im also worried about teh mirena, it doesnt feel right i have ahd 3 weeks of not having a period in 22 weeks not right and AF is back on teh door step not

oh rose im so glad your LO is settlinga dn sleeping better, some fabulous advice you have recieved here. i will be using some of it myself i think.

Hey Kawa, you shoudl def see about changing the pill - you should not be bleeding that much and the hormones might be affecting your moods...I hope the doctor can help you sort it out

Rose, I told you!!! see Hard for you at first but once you get used to sleeping again, you'll be so happy you moved him!!!! yay! let us know how tonight goes! I am so happy for you!

Tilda...I used to put a maternity pillow on one side of the bed for Eva at first so she could feel confined, maybe she just needs something to stroke, not necessarily the bars? Try a little plush or a tube shaped pillow maybe?

Alison, congrats on, the tooth (I saw on fb) and Carmey too! Now you guys have to try to get photos of those mouths open!

    To everyone else, hi!

Paed visit today so I'm excited to see how much my shrimp has grown!

BS and Willow - thanks I'll try both those suggestions. Isn't it amazing how quickly they'll pick up a habit and why are they always the ones you don't want them to have! I had hoped the cardy she uses as a snuggle rug would help with these types of transitions. Oh well. I just pray she gets used to the old/new cot quickly. Things were going so well!

Kawa - I hope your doctor can sort things out quickly. It must be exhausting losing all that blood all the time. I hope you're getting enough iron in your diet. I'm sure its just the stress of babies and work that's getting to your DH. I know mine is a bit funny on and off with the pressure of long hours and trying to spend time with us as well. I try to let it slide unless it becomes an all the time thing and then I just try and gently point out he's being a bit too terse too often. Is your DH the sort of guy that can take gentle feedback well? Have you told him how you're feeling? If he's difficult to talk to maybe you could tackle it indirectly. Some baby free time together doing something fun could help you reconnect a bit. And vent away - that's what we're all here for.

Rose - hoping you get another good night tonight!!

AFM - well its been a challenging day on very little sleep. We were both exhausted and a bit grumpy on and off. Oh god there she is. This blasted cot!!!

Hi Kawa - wow that's a lot of bleeding, definitely go get that checked out, that must be draining you so much. I didn't bother going back on the pill as we plan on trying for another baby end of this year/early next year - after 20 years on the pill it only took me a couple of months to get back on track and this time they've been very regular since coming back, I used to have 21 day cycles leading up to getting pregnant but they've been more like 25 days this time which is better, 21 days is too often thanks!

Hi Tilda - they are great suggestions for Tilly, she'll get used to it don't worry, I guess it's like us, we prefer our own beds to others.....you know when you get a new bed it takes a little bit to get used to, she's probably the same so she'll be right I'm sure. xx

Hi BS - good luck with your appointment. My baby books says the next check isn't until 8 months, I wonder why......anyway, I might give the health nurse a buzz and arrange to go see her for one anyway, I'm curious to know how long she is etc.

Hi Rose/Beany - loved catching up today, look forward to our next one. Your boys are both so adorable. And sorry Beany - Amelia's latest party trick of squealing upset Michael today, I told her in the car she shouldn't do it again as it made him cry lol. Oh and guess what, I totally picked the wrong way to go home, I wanted to avoid the peak hour traffic on the freeway so headed towards Wanneroo Road and got caught in traffic build up thanks to an accident. It took me 1 hour to get home! It normally takes me 15 minutes! Of course Amelia fell asleep in the car so she ended up having a 3rd nap and so she ate her dinner later, had her bath/bottle later and took me longer to get down, grrr. Next time I'll battle the freeway, wouldn't have taken me an hour that's for sure ha ha!

Hi Willow - hows things over your way today?

AFM - Amelia's tooth is through, it's hard to catch as she puts her tongue in the way but you can definitely feel the sharp ridges and see a glimpse when she smiles, it's so cute - I think the one next to it isn't too far away either. Gosh our babies are growing up so fast, it's kinda sad huh!

Oh and for a bit of useless info, I just went to go change my signature picture and realised my joining date was the 30th November 2008 - that's exactly 1 year to the day that Amelia was born, is that freaky or what!

Hope you all had lovely days. xx

Hi Alison - that's a bit uncanny about the 1 year to the day. So you girls caught up today? Awww. Wish I'd had time when I was in Perth. Well next time. Congratulations Amelia on your first toothy peg! I hope it is the bed that's doing this to Tilly (see below).

AFM - I'm actually starting to wonder if Tilly has an ear infection. The doctor said her ear was a bit red the other day. It might be a combination of things. She's woken up 4 times in the two hours since I put her to bed. She didn't do this even when we were moving around so I'm thinking she might be feeling miserable. I think we might do a trip to the doctors tomorrow.

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, replied to alison then lost it!

I was just saying that this is not a necessary checkup but she has that rash I wanted to ask about - when she had gastro I went to seea doc that was replacing her paed and he did not take the time to answer any of my questions....He looked at the rash and said it's a rash not eczema and if it doesn't itch, don't treat it...it is still there so I am not happy with his answer....he annoyed me.

So I am going in for that - we have required vaccination visits at 1, 2, 3, 4 months and then one year...and everything in between is as needed...so I am going in to see about that rash, plus she has a runny nose that won't go away...not sure if it will be like that because of daycare, but worth checking out.

Also, she's been going to sleep at 1030 for the past few days so I want to see if all is in order

    xoxo

    Hello Everyone...

Perth Ladies, I saw your photos on facebook...very luck to be able to catch up like that!
This has to be quick as my spare time is gold at the moment..Im still in my pj's too and Lila is watching play school...
Just wondering if anyone was experience a total turn around with sleeping? Sienna used to go to bed fairly easily - without much fuss at all, then wake maybe once or twice at night, but then the last two nights and it's been so hard to get her to sleep and I have been up every 1 or two hours trying to settle her again. There are no signs of teeth but when I rub her tummy she seams to be comforted (but then pipes up a short while later) Last night she was so upset I gave her some baby Panadol and she slept for 4 hours but then woke up two more times before 7am. I am wrecked
Im also worried that I can not settle her in the cot anymore, I have to pick her up or feed her and I am concerned that this will backfire and that's the only way she will sleep...or has it already happened?
Does anyone know if she maybe having a hard time with the solids being introduced?
She did have her 6month immunisations on Monday, but she was fine monday & monday night but it all started to fall apart on Tuesday. Any ideas?
Anyhoo, have to go... Lila's bored of Play School now so I have to go play....and as for a shower?....glad I have some nice PJ's!

Hi Kanda - it's the Wonder Week....Amelia went through this 2 weeks ago - the exact same symptoms, she was going to bed on her own, no fuss etc., and went to wanting to be rocked/cuddled to sleep, waking up loads in the night wanting to be cuddled after sleeping through, lots of crying, tantrums clingy etc....if you read back you'll see my whinging a couple of weeks back. I found it quite stressful and it lasted for a week for me. A lot of my mums group friends are going through the same thing. You just have to ride the wave, it will be over soon I promise. Everyone I know who's gone through it including myself has found that the day before it ends Amelia slept for 3 hours at a time during her day naps and then woke the next day and was back to normal, just like that! I swear the devil stole her at one point and decided to return her lol. It could also be teeth, I think it's a big combination as Amelia has just sprouted her first tooth yesterday, it's only just out but it's there. Good luck, the Wonder Week really sucks but just know it won't last long. And don't worry, they go back to the way they were, Amelia is back to self settling and aside from last night when I think her tooth is bothering her she's gone back to sleeping all night without much fuss. This is all classic wonder week signs and it's completely normal. You'll find Sienna may start to show some new development signs, Amelia has started trying to say Dada (grrr lol) and she's making a clicking noise with her tongue and she's also worked out at swimming yesterday that when we say 1, 2, 3 before we submerge them she closes her eyes!!!! Funny thing is I was laughing at her cause it was so funny so now she's doing it all the time to get a reaction, they're smarter then we give them credit for aren't they! Anyway, just go with it, Sienna will go back to normal mate. Hope that helps to make you feel a bit better. xx

Nah I doubt it Kanda, that might not help I guess but I reckon babies adjust better than we think.....I'd say Wonder Week, here's the list in the book:

Wonder Week 26 : The World of Relationships
    Fussy Signs:
    May Sleep Poorly
    Have Nightmares
    Become Shier
    Demand More Attention
Always want to be with you/more physical contact
    Loss of appetite
    Become Listless
    Doesn't like being changed
Reach for a cuddlier object more often
    Sucks thumb/wants dummy more often

My friend just had it for 4 days so you might not get a week of it, fingers crossed! xx
