maybe try and cut the amount she has each feed then cut down the number of feeds, so try offering her one side only per feed then drop some feeds thats what i'll try if in a few months millie is still waking.
were all here for each other, the good the bad and the ugly

Ali - sending you a big I agree with AJP. You should post in here more often if needed over the next couple of weeks to vent! That is what we're here for. Wishing Ash lots of sleepy vibes (cause then you'll get some too!). I'll be thinking of you both.
Nai - Hope the conjunctivitis clears up soon! That's a great routine Miss J has!
Shell - LOL at you losing your voice over footy! Nothing wrong with that! This is a swans household and Jacob already had a jersey before he even got home from hospital!!
Heaven - OMG at the standing!! Have you kid-proofed your house yet?
    Hi to everyone else!!

AFM - Jacob has fed 9 times a day since Wednesday when I started counting them again. He was a 7 feeds a day from birth kind of kid too. Not sure what is going on. I thought it was teeth at first but I don't think so anymore. He's just grumbly and unsettled during the day and he's nowhere near 26 weeks (not quite 23) for it to be a wonder week. He is still generally good overnight feeding once or twice between 9pm and 7-9am. He's also had lots of poo every day (seems to have stopped today) but before that was doing like 3-4 a day. Sometimes it was green too.

I'm worried about how few settling techniques we use. It's mainly the dummy (late in the day or if he's been awake a long time and in the pram where he rarely sleeps or for cot sleeps) or feeding or distraction (which only works for a little while). I can't get him to roll over into another sleep cycle with patting etc. Once he wakes up he wants to party. So he does 4-5 small naps all day - the first might be 1.5hrs but after that its 40-60mins a go. Right up until 8 or 9pm. Any ideas or does this sound within the realms of normal? I guess I had expected by 5 months that his day sleeps might reduce in number and increase in length and that his feeds might reduce as well but instead they've both increased.

Sorry that turned into a really long me post. Hope you all had a good weekend! Hugs to all the bubs.

kaz our sleeps are pretty much the same! 4 x45 -60 mins, sometimes like today i get 90 mins (although i got two of those today) i can tell when she wakes how much she talks whether to leave her or not, as in some days she puts herself back to sleep, most times she doesnt!

Ali - good luck!! You may find that it doesn't take as long as you expect it to - at least I hope that's the case for you.

Kaz- we still have the short naps, I try to resetlle, without much luck usually. She prolly has 3-4 naps. Anywhere from 30 up to 60 on rare occasion 1.5, DD1 didn't start having longish sleeps til she was about 1!
In our house its a fight for the kids as Df is a bomber supporter, we've agreed one child each but seeing as most our friends are saints fans I just might win.

Ali- Good luck, it will be hard first few nights but just tell yourself its worth it in long run, tell yourself your nit getting much sleep anyway whats a little less. Once she learns to resettle without the breast you should see improvement, you prolly need to give it 3 nights before you can see if its working or not. And yes come in and tell us how its all going.

Heaven- omg she is well advanced with all that physical stuff! I put Em in jolly jumper last week and she just hung there didn't even try bounce herself.

I know its great watching DD1 and 2 interacting, like yours Nai, Ash is always making Em laugh by just looking at her. Its so great to watch them together. Ash has become all protective of Em when other kids get too close, very cute.

For those that know about baby led solids can someone explain to me why doing that you can give your bubs whole foods but your other starting solids involves pureeing everything, if they can eat or suck on steamed vegies why am I pureeing everything?

well that would be so much easier, why do they recommend puree if not needed? I think pureeing so much with DD1 caused issues further one when I struggled to give her lumpy food.

Shell - A lot of people have said that the purees have led to difficulties in the future. just make sure it is well mashed, and if she is not tollerating it, make it a bit more mashed.

Today E ate about 3 teaspoons worth of banana as finger food and a quarter of a cruskit. I wasn;'t going to start solids yet, but she was watching J so intently with the banana that I let her have a try. Then she lost interest. So I thought I would give her some rice cereal. She had about 3 mouthfuls, then clamped her mouth shut. How much sould they be eating at this age?

Ali - Don't feel that you have to be trying on your own. Please come in here daily and let us know how you are going.

kaz- E does one long sleep usually first sleep of the day, of maybe 1.5 to 2 hours, then she will usually do another 2 40 odd minute sleeps, so quite normal. J was worse. At this age, he would do 2 45 min sleeps a day, and by 1 he was only doing 1 sleep, but like Shell said, it was only when he turned 1 that he had longer day sleeps, oor maybe 2.5 hours.

I don't count breastfeeds, but today E has fed a lot more than normal. Maybe every 2 hours or so. That's why I let her try the food, although she really isn't a fan on solids.

Shell - i had a giggle thinking about Emily hanging in the jolly jumper! E has one, she LOVES it, although she had abig cry tonight.

She really hasn't been herself the past 2 days. Like I said earlier, she doesn't usually cry, just grizzles, but the last 2 days she has had some very upset moments, of quite a distressed cry. Not sure what it up. Oh and she also has a terrible drool rash on her chin. It comes from suckiing her fingers so much.

We are going to the MCHN tomorrow, so I will let you all know her stats then.

    Hi All,

Wow lots to read tonight!! Hope I can remember everything!!

Firstly Ali- good luck with the sleep settling, think I may need to do the same thing once I have L established on solids... Please come in to get support, it may give me some inspiration too!!!

Nai- I hope the girls eye's get better!! I know this is going to sound insane, but my doctor told me to make up a solution of 1:8 of "no more tears" and cooled boiled water and wipe my DS eyes with that.. I had tried breastmilk and cleaning nearly every hour & had been on drops too, he had a secondary infection quite nasty infact, and it help heaps heaps, apparently it is pH neuatral so won's sting but it just helps clear away the bacteria. I questioned my DR several times to the point he said try it in your eyes first and you will see it's just like using water!!

AJP- Wow Millie is growing heaps, getting L done tomorrow will post to let you know!!! Our babies are going to be 6 months!!!Where did that time go???

Meg- Goodluck with the 100 stairs, I'm still sore today!!!

Heaven- I nearly fell over when I saw your pic!!! What a clever girl!! Gosh you must be on the baby proofing already!!

Kaz- Sorry no real advice but wanted to let you know that our feeds have increased heaps too! I don;t count but always seem to have the boobies out!!!

    Sorry If I've missed anyone.

Going to MCHN tomorrow for our weigh in!! Will be interesting I don;t actually think he has grown that much!! And this time 6 months ago i was getting my first contractions!!! Wow how time flies when your having fun!!

meg- Can E roll back to front? DD just started a couple of wks ago and is now doing it all the time. Before that I didn't think she liked tummy time either bc she would always just flip straight over but she's spending a lot more time on her tummy now she can do it herself. So maybe E will start to like it soon?
Jols- Happy 6 months to Millie!!
Ali- we're still having issues. Last night DD was awake from 1-3am. Don't know how to fix it though
Kaz- lol, no, no baby-proofing yet, have to get onto that!! I think there's a big growth spurt at this time, DD has been feeding a lot more too!
Shell- ooh, I want a jolly jumper! LOL, yep they can just eat sticks of cooked vegies and stuff. Well, anything really. Have a look at the BLS chatter thread, esp the first post in the first thread. Or google it. There's a good wikipedia article.
    Pinny- Happy 6 months Lewis!!!!!!!!!

LOL, it looks funny her standing up when she's so little. But she doesn't pull herself up or anything thank god. If I'm holding her up she will grab onto something and if I let her go she just stands there, lol.
Second night of BLS was much better! She had beans, carrot, and broccoli. She chewed on each of them. Spat out the carrot, lol. But got a big hunk of broccoli in her mouth and swallowed it down!! DH and I were amazed. My family thing I'm mental and am going to choke her or something which just makes me more determined to do it this way and show them they're wrong!! pmsl. We got some funny faces again last night, LOL.
