Hi all - i'm absolutely loving being a mummy!
BF is good - on the left side...right side has a massive crack in the middle which had both me and abbie yelling this morning. Called the lactation lady and am now expressing that side for the next 48 hrs while the crack heals!! phew! then we're going to fix her attachment - she knows how to do it, but the left side is her (and mine for now!!) favourite.
Hope everyone else is drama-less!!!
This thread has been very quiet - I'm as guilty as anyone. At present I am only managing to be active on facebook, bite size comments seems to be all I can handle at present. plus there is the opportunity to post lots of photos of my gorgeous boy!!
Hope everyone's doing well!
Proverbswife I'm glad you're loving mummyhood, isn't it ace!?!? Has that crack healed yet? I have a small one and I know what you mean about yelling - OUCH!! I hope mine gets better by itself, if not I'll be pulling out the new breast pump.
Chris I'm so happy that BF has worked well for you this time... any nipple woes this week? Did you need to take ABs for the mastitis? Milk blisters are weird too aren't they! I had one on about day 3.
Amy how did the little one measure up at your midwife appt?
Hi Lauren, Shar and Gliriel!
We seem to have lots of boys in here, am I right? Just 2 little girls I think. My bellybuddies who had their bubs in late jan / early feb all had girls, then the boy rush started.
AFM, we are going brilliantly. Barnaby is 16 days old, still feeding and sleeping really well. A bit more wakefulness and more crying, a grizzly period for a few hours each day with lots of feeds but then he sleeps for 4-5 hours straight after that so it's all worth it! We've been out a few times, including long family lunches on Saturday and Sunday, he got pretty unsettled then poor little fella. I have been getting 7-7.5 hours sleep a night for the past week which I am stoked about. DP has been taking good care of us too.
Look forward to hearing how you're all doing, I'm sure we'll get chattier as we all settle in.
I'm here! I'm so busy with my little guy who has just gotten over his first cold but is doing beautifully. Sunday will be his due date and 1 month of breast feeding so woohoo!
I've been a bit slow to post, hope everyone is going well and enjoying mummyhood! How is everyone recovering after the labour?
We have been keeping busy back into our routine of activities with DS1. baby Lukas so far has been very chilled out, feeding 3hrly day and night. He puts himself back to sleep after a feed so complete opposite of DS1. We have been out and about most days and he is very relaxed and happy to sleep in the pram YAY!!!
Our major drama has been DS1 he has started playing up, being VERY demanding and not listening, hopefully it will pass soon. Is anyone else having issues with older siblings???
Everything has finally fallen into place. BF is working itself out, Caryanah is now on 3 hourly feeds, goes down at 7.30pm and wakes only at 3am for a feed then back down til 8.30am.
Both my kids were great night time sleepers - so we've been very lucky.
Cooper was a bit of a handful for the first couple of weeks because the baby was feeding all day long and he felt a bit put out, but I've gone back to the EASY routines and she is a dream baby and finally learned to put herself to sleep if I catch her before she's overtired.
Since Cooper gets a few solid blocks of me all to himself, he has adjusted beautifully and is back to his sweet self.
In the last few days I've managed to get Caryanah taking her long daytime nap at the same time as Cooper's and I'm now getting a 2 hour block during the day all to myself. I've told DH I won't do housework, this time is for me, tv and coffee LOL......he has been awesome. Comes home from work and when the kids are in bed he helps me with the housework so by 8.30pm we have a couple of hours together before I head to bed.
Jaffaz - toddlers are a handful aren't they? With Cooper, I found in the first couple of weeks I'd growl at him if he slammed doors etc while I was getting the baby down and realised the only time I was interacting was to reprimand so I started letting the little stuff slide and keeping an eye out for the good stuff and making a big deal of that. I also made a few specific activity boxes for times when I'd need to spend a chunk with DD - things like DVD's he loves, books, toys that aren't his "mainstream" supply and he now knows when I set up the DVD and give him the box, it's solo playtime for Coops and mummy time with bub. If he brings me a book, I get him to sit next to me and I'll read it - some days are better than others, but with missy in her groove it's gotten heaps better!
Ali - How is little man? How are you going? Have you recovered well? Sounds like you've settled into Mummyhood quite well!
lauren22 - Poor bubba! Colds are no fun. Caryanah is a bit congested at the moment, I think it's that change of season. Winter is where the fun begins
proverbswife31_12 - Ouch! I ended up with mastitis and then a blister - I swore if I got mastitis once more that would be the end of BF - it felt like I was dying! The blisters hurt too - I found if her latch was good, the pain was minimal and it was all gone in a couple of days
Hope everyone else is doing good - just a quick poll - who is using dummies? If so, when and when will you wean? Wondering if it's worth the pain when she's having a "sucky" moment but not hungry
I've managed to find 2 mins to join this group!! I had DD3 on 20 Feb and am flat out busy with 3 girls under 4 yrs!!
DD3 (Mia) is gorgeous but having to fit in with her older sisters (3.5yrs and 2 yrs) so getting sleep during the day is difficult. Not doing too badly at night though and so far bf is going well.
I'm just tired though - going to start looking into getting some 'mothers help' a couple of afternoons a week as it's pretty full on with 3 very young ones.
May I please join, I had our son X on the 19th of Feb, I was induced at 39+6 days and it took 2 hours to dilate fully after my waters were broken and a massive 4 hours of pushing ( lip of cervix),I was in labour a total of 11 and a half hours, It was absolutely the worst experience of my life and I have been induced twice before this and given birth a total of 4 times!
Over a month on I still cant get over had bad it was BUT I have my beautiful baby to make it all worth it.
Look forward to getting to know you all!
Rebecca

Hi everyone, well it appears I wasn't getting notifications, great to see that people have been posting!
Rebecca- Hi and welcome, nice to have you here! 4 hours sounds pretty horrific, what a way to go with your fourth baby, my goodness! I do hope it starts to fade into distant memory for you soon. How are you coping with 4?!
Hey Shar! Funny how we sadly wave goodbye to the parents and even more sadly greet the arrival of the inlaws!! Poor old inlaws! My parents headed north again too after being around for 6 weeks which I'm sad about. Are you still feeling very hormonal / baby blue-ish? So long as you're having more good days than bad days... if not have a chat to someone at your 6 week check up
Hi Roya nice to see you over here! 3 under 3.5, that's hard work. Seriously I cannot imagine. Mother's help sounds like something you need and richly deserve.
Chris, hi hon! We always seem to post days apart, we're never in the 'room' at the same time! I see you're still offering lots of pearls of wisdom on BB, you're the best! Unfortunately I'm more about seeking advice than giving advice at the moment if ever I'm on BB! LOL. It's great to hear details of how you're managing with two kids... your special toy/DVD box is a wonderful idea and it's great that Cooper has settled down. Also you had me off researching what EASY routine is, and I recall that a friend lent me a Tracey Hogg book. Is she one of 'those' authors who would not be welcome on the BB forums?!
AFM things are going very well on balance. Having some BF issues, oversupply and superfast flow in one boob, which I tried to manage with posture feeding and block feeding... all that happened is that my milky boob almost exploded.... hmmm thanks to advice on BB i've ditched the block feeding and just using posture feeding on the milky boob. He still throws up more after that boob but hey he doesn't seem to mind and he's still gaining weight...
... 880g in 13 days to be precise !?!?!?! I'm not sure if I should be concerned! So I won't be... I'll just carry on and see what is said at his 6 week check up. The nurse at the clinic said "Oh you'll be fine just don't overfeed him", I decided to ignore that!! Firstly I thought you couldn't overfeed a BF baby? And secondly I'm demand feeding (with a bit of managing crying through other means during his whingy arvo periods). And thirdly I don't want to muck around with things in the first 6 weeks. And fourthly he's just a little chubba!! He's gone from 4 at birth to 5 kg at 3.5 weeks. Such a weight to lug about while feeding, esp with the posture feeding and need to do lots of burping mid feed on the milky boob.
REcovery wise, I'm getting there. Scar seems fine, my energy levels are still not very high esp going for walks. Went to the weekly BF group at the clinic today, and chatted to some other new mums which was fun. Then went to the shopping centre and Barney yelled his way around Kmart - stresssfulll! DP was in at work for a few hours... dreading his full time return to work next week.
OK enough from me
Oh Chris no I'm not using dummies... but wonder if I should have an emergency one on hand 'just in case'... I probably would have used it once or twice!
ETA oops I missed Jaffaz and Lauren who've posted since I last did - hi ladies
Mummato2 thanks for the advice, focusing on the positives sounds like a great idea will give it a go! DS1 seems to be getting better, but I still feel like i'm constantly telling him off and then of course i feel guilty.
Ali hope you get the BF sorted, I didn't think you could over feed BF bubs either???
We are doing well, 4 week check for Lukas tomorrow at MCH nurse. Will be good to see how much weight he has put on! He also has a hip scan next week so I'm a little nervous about that (DS1 has hip dysplacia SP?). Will let you all know how we go fingers crossed all is ok.
Jaffaz - it will get better I promise. I also made sure that unless I am putting Cary to bed, I feed her, change her, do everything except wind down and sleep in whichever room (or backyard) that Cooper is in. I found that he was happier to come over and put his head on my leg for a cuddle rather than stand out front of the baby's room and scream.
2 years is a really hard age because they don't have the words to express their feelings and they don't have the emotional maturity to understand why they are feeling what they do. Instead, they do what they know - make noise. Otherwise they've sussed out even negative attention is still attention - so we just don't give it anymore.
But like I said, the key for me was to do EVERYTHING possible with the baby in whichever room Coops is in and that eliminated heaps of negative feelings in Coops, stopped me yelling at the bad stuff as well as be there to spot the great things he does and praise praise praise LOL
Ali *HI* - how's it going chickie? Have you got your BF sorted? Are leftie and rightie behaving?
I *think* Tracey Hogg should pass the BB boards because she in no way encourages controlled crying. It's all about learning about your baby's individual cues (hunger, tired etc) and fitting them into a predictable easy to follow flow to your day.
It also teaches you how to manage your baby in respect to settling techniques that don't rely on props such as feeding to sleep, dummies etc.
Now if it had have been Tizzie Hall - yes she is a big boogie monster to BB LOL
BB are very much "gentle parenting" which I am probably only about 50% (since we are being honest). I truly believe there is a place for smacking (we rarely smack, but if Cooper is doing something that can potentially hurt him AND he knows he is doing something naughty he gets a smack and time out).......I also think that once a baby is old enough to learn that a cry brings mum (around 9 months) and they are refusing sleep even though they're exhausted, knowing your baby's mantra cry and allowing them to figure it out on their own is NOT the same as CC.....however, that wouldn't be greeted with kindness here LOL
*Hi everyone else* hope everyone is going really well and welcome to our new friends x
Jaff how did you go at the nurse? What's news on the hip?
Hiya Chris -Well I'll read the Tracey Hogg book in that case! (I just checked and my friend lent me 2 books that I'd just shoved on the shelf and not yet looked at - one is T Hogg, the other is Tizzy Hall! LOL!).
An approach of 50% gentle parenting sounds just about right to me (as long as the other 50% isn't super strict routine stuff!). I definitely want to meet my babies needs but totally believe in the importance of setting reasonable boundaries, both for bubs sake and the rest of the family.
While I was preggers I read Dream Baby by Sheyne Rowley, it is a mammoth 700 page tome on 'positive routine management' designed for use for 6months - 2 years. I really liked it, the approach seems hugely sensible to me and I look forward to putting it in practice later this year. I'm glad I read it now as I couldn't imagine findng the time with a bub! It was good to read it all to really understand how her total philosophy works.
Smacking... well I still remember my once a year smacks when I was really naughty (one on a wet bum in the bath, I think I was climbing in and out, I still remember the sting!!), so my parents must have kept smacks for high need occasions only. A fine approach you have hon... so sensible
AFM - BF is going fine thanks. I've stopped thinking so much about it and going with the flow is far preferable!
First day alone at home for me yesterday as DP back at work. It was a total nightmare!! Barney was worst he's ever been with non stop feed-whinge-cry and total 2 hours sleep in 15 hours. I shed my first tears of frustration - sure they won't be my last! Was soooo glad to see DP!!
Anyway B slept wonderfully last night and went down for 4 hours again this morning after his 7am feed, and is now sleeping again PHEW! My bestie is up from Melb and came over for a few hours today, it was just lovely and we enjoyed a well behaved and well rested little Barney for most of that time.
I think the best thing about the bad days is that they make you REALLY appreciate the good days!! I hope you ladies are all having plenty of good days. As they said to us in one of the hospital classes before we left, "You'll have bad days. Expect to have 2 bad days a week. If you're having more bad days than good days, talk to your nurse or GP". I think this is great advice in general, as the bad days could be due to bub or due to mum's undiagnosed PND.
Hi everyone...well i haven't been getting the notifications so it makes me think others haven't either which might explain the quietness...
It's interesting reading over everyone's posts. Nice to know others have had similar issues.
My boy is beautiful but poor bubba is struggling alot with reflux. Diagnosed at 2 weeks and on Losec x2daily. I'm also trying some natural solutions. I've been doing everything i can think of to help him - feeding from one side only, taking him off when my let-down happens, feeding upright, burping regularly, sleeping on side and on an angle etc etc I'm nearly out of suggestions. If anyone has any experience in this feel free to help me out
Other than that he's doing ok. Feeding 3hrly during day and 4-5hourly at night.
Anyway, he's just started crying. Aaahhh the afternoon arsenic hour! Why do they call it hour when it's definitely longer than that!
Also had issues with my toddler...but I'll save that for another post!
Ali - don't abandon us just yet, as with Amyhunz it seems yet again I haven't been getting the notifications, I popped in today as bubs is asleep and I'm surfing the net and there have been more posts.
Is there something you have to do to ensure you get them? I hope by replying to the thread it will activate them again?
Anyways, Freddy is just a gem, calm, contented and just a little giggler!! He loves to just cuddle me aswell which I didn't have with my first to, they were quite uptight babies (probably getting it from me at the time) and always fidgety.
The other main difference I am finding is that Freddy self settles as I really wanted that this time, is amazing the difference that makes this time round.
I am very keen on having another one (making 4 in total, defo the last!) and would love to fall preggers now so I have them as close in age as poss (10 months diff am I crazy!!), as you can see in my sig I have done big gaps previously due to having number one at 20.
Anyways I'll keep you posted on that...............
Hope everyone else is well, thats if anyone is reading due to not getting notifications!!!
hey
Just thought I'd check in to see how everyone is going??
With all bubs coming up to 2 months old, how are you and bubbas going??
Freddy and I are well and settling into our regular daily routine.
I went back to teaching my Group Fitness classes 3 weeks ago and enjoying it.
My In-laws are here still due to have flown back to the Uk on Friday but with the flight cancelations due to the volcanic ash are stuck in Australia the flight all get sorted soon! Would quite like my house back after 8 weeks of visitors.
Wow 2 months! My how time flies...and yet I can't remember life without baby...
Well as much as I'd love to say it's been easy...it hasn't! Poor Josh continues to struggle with reflux and general gut stuff. The latest was constipation - hard pellet poos. I thought it was impossible for a fully BF baby to be constipated...apparently not!
Anyway, I'm trying EVERYTHING to help him out from meds to natural options. I've had one visit with an Osteo and was impressed. Will keep going, hoping for progress.
It's amazing how different your babies can be. Now that I've had a 'hard' newborn, I can see that my first was a textbook baby
Anyway, he's still beautiful but we're a little sleep deprived ATM.
