Babies born~January 16th-31st 2010 #1

Hi to all the new mums! Just a quick post as it is getting late and I need some sleep! I am finding I am super tired at the moment, but once that early hours feed happens I am happy to potter around for an hour or more. I think it comes back to not sleeping much when I was pregnant. Some habits die hard!

We have had a big day today, as a girlfriend come over to do some baby photos. She is just getting into baby photography and she did a lot of work with Luka and then some family shots. From the ones she showed me they look great, so I cannot wait to see the finished product!

Phynna - Yay for finally making it!

Study - Great to meet you, look forward to getting to know you more :)

Vin - The hiccups have to hurt bubs, surely. Luka gets so upset when he gets them, poor little things. He got them a lot when I was pregnant and now he has arrived he still gets them often.

Colestar - How is Jayde going with her wind problems? We always found that by laying bubs across your lap and tapping their back is an effective way of getting the hard to get wind up! We have tried that with Luka as he can be tricky, but usually if you walk with him you can get it as well.

Liminal - How is the breast feeding going?

Emma - I am bottle feeding as well. Both my girls are bottle fed babies, as my milk never come in and they have turned out fine! I expressed with both at first, but it is a lot of work. I have been expressing for Luka because my boobs are demanding it twice a day, but because the breast / formula combination is not doing any favours for his poos we have decided to go solely to formula. I was not even getting enough for one feed a day, so I cannot put him through the pain of constipation for not even one bottle.

Kamarine - Your little girl sounds like she made a very quick entrance! Was your first birth drug free?

Sorka - 4 boys! Are you done now or would you like to try again for a girl? A lot of people are not phased by what they get, I am one of 3 girls and we were more than happy to have another girl. But we got a boy this time around and that is fine as well. As long as they are healthy is all we could ask for!

Smithy - How are you and little Charlie going?

Cadence - How are you doing?

Studymum - Chloe sounds just like Vaeda! Always on the boob, makes noises all night (I havent learnt how to block them out yet) and she's a little fighter, impossibly strong and so hard to unlatch! She loves putting her hands up by her face while feeding too, I have to pry them away so that I can get to her mouth. How is she so strong? She could probably beat me in an arm wrestle.

Re: hiccups Vaeda doesn't seem that bothered by them. She doesn't cry or fuss, she just either lies there looking around, or continues to desperately seek out the food like she's never eaten a thing in her life.

Kazaraz- What formula is Luka on? How much does he get per feed?
I'm a little confused as after a 120ml bottle of S26 GOLD, Zoe is still looking for more food!!! I call her McPiglet :lol:

Kaz - The doc told us she has colic - we have FINALLY worked out what works for her - a combination of laying as you suggested - walking over Daddy's shoulder and a nice shower to calm her. We changed her bottles to a smaller teet - as apparently this is an issue

Bindi13 - Jayde vomited everywhere a few times (hasnt since) was told by doc that it was left over mucus she swallowed when she was born, she also vomited when she was full of wind as well...

The nurse came and visited today - she was quite helpful - as from 2 weeks to settle hicuups you can give a small amount of room temp sterilised water - as feeding relievs this... I tried it and worked a treat settled her right away. I dont know if this works for those breastfeeding

I am also glad to hear (with all the issues we had feeding her) that she has put on 500g since birth weight which is awesome as she lost weight after she was born so excited - the nurse was VERY pleased with her, It was nice to hear I was doing it right, as sleepless nights were making me worry I was doing something wrong.

Colestar - Great news regarding Jayde putting on weight yay. Good luck with the new teats, hope that works for you!

Bindi - From experience vomiting can be a normal part of the parcel. It could mean bubs does have some wind, has drank a bit much and over flowed or that they might have a bit of reflux. If it is happening every feed, it might be worth mentioning it to your gp of maternal health nurse? My DD1 was a bit of a spewer and I recall one night changing her 5 times and DH and I twice before we left the house as she kept spewing on every new set of clothes! Fun!

Emma - We have Luka on Karricare Gold, we have fed the girls with this and it seems to work for us. At the moment he is taking 100mls every 3-4 hours. In saying that, he is also polishing off 100mls really easily every feed, so we will keep an eye on it and when he starts seeming like he wants more, sleeping for shorter periods again we will bump it up as well. When was Zoe born? Luka is 1 weeks and 5 days.

Just a quick post, hope everyone is going well.

Had a run in with the nurse at my gp's today, Chloe had her 5-10day checkup with my gp (also my ob) and she is doing great, might I add so am I, both uterus and stomach muscles back to normal already, yeah. She has a bit of conjuntivitis in one eye but going to continue using the breastmilk for a few more days before filling the script. Anyway my run in with the nurse, the stupid old hag asked me how often she is feeding, which is every 3 to 4 hours and at her age IMO that is perfectly fine, the woman screwed her nose up and asked if I was allowing her to work up a cry for awhile before a feed so that I stretch them out a bit. I told her I dont and I dont think there is a need to, I know when she is hungry and not complaining of something else, and letting her work herself up for 5 minutes is not going to stretch anything out its just going to make her harder to attach. Well she wasnt impressed with me and gave me the snotty for the rest of the checkup

Emma - let them have whatever they want, the tin is just a guide. I gave Amelia a bottle of EBM at 2 weeks old at a wedding and was in complete shock to discover that she was already polishing off over 240mls per feed (she drank my store for the day in one hit and I ended up having to bf her for the next feed in the middle of the reception) She never let up either and by 3 months was drinking 300mls bottles and by 8 I was filling them to the brim :o, so many people told me that she shouldnt be drinking so much, but if she didnt get it all hell would break loose. She was so petite to.

A good idea is to have a top up bottle of formula in the fridge. You just make up another bottle of formula and if they finish the one you offer than use the top up to add extra to it until they stop drinking. It was suggested to my sister whos daughter would become unsettled half an hour or hour after a feed, by our wonderful baby nurse, she said that all babies regardless of bf or ff have part of their brain that will tell them what they require to drink, so if they empty the bottle and fall asleep they just may have not got quite enough and might only want another 10 or 20mls or more and wake later. So basically if the bottle is empty, top it up a bit and offer some more. It worked wonders for sis.

Vomity babies are so much fun, well not really, Amelia vomited on everything, the first two days in hospital (it was mainly mucus that hadnt come out during birth) she got every single thing I had packed and DH had to bring more in. I sewed up terry towelling vomit clothes with a waterproof backing to lay her head on just to save the millions of sheets I was going through. Lucky this time Chloe hasnt done it once.

Well the boobie monster is stirring again so I am off.

Little Nao gets the hiccups alot too, and she seems sad when she does and really loves the cuddles. I've found putting her upright against my chest and stomach between boobs seems to help her get over them quicker, either that or its coincidental. :)

Kazaraz - First little girl, Munchkin, she was drug free and even faster out! :o I had pethidine with little Nao.

Studymum - Sadly its not engorgement causing the attachment issues, I'm not sure what it is - going to ring LC tomorrow and see. She latches to one side pretty well just not the other.

Had a home visit - the last for now (:() Not sure about her weight, the CMN wasn't worried, but I dunno if I am lol. Birthweight was 3585g. Day 3 was 3400g. Day 6 was 3580g.Today day10 was 3560g.
She's still feeding a lot and stuff. :dunno:
Munchkin was bottle fed so I'm unsure how it works this time.

Hi everyone!

I had Sophia on the 21st, 6 days early. Since then I've been up until 2am every morning because bugalugs cluster feeds from 11pm until after 1! Then her big sis wakes early around 7 (despite going to bed at 10pm!) and doesn't nap in the day. Thank goodness DD1 is in daycare a couple of days a week so I can rest! She falls asleep at the boob but I put her down to have a shower or lock up the house and PING! Awake again :lol:

Study - Your post made me relax a little about my boys feeding. He took 120mls last night and then slept for 5 hours, and did similar next feed. I was worried he was stretching out too long, but he must be getting what he needs to satisfy him. I am still waiting to see a maternal health nurse, as we have not had a weigh since 2 days after getting out of hospital. I might ring them and see what is taking so long. I thought since they were monitoring him so closely because of the jaundice, they would have someone out sooner than over a week later?!

Kamarine - I thought bubs should continue to put weight on, but the maternal health nurse should know what she is talking about. Maybe if you are worried, it would not hurt to ring the help line and just run the weights past them. Or talk to your gp even. Good luck with it!

Neenee - Sounds like Sophia is keeping you busy! Hopefully things settle down soon and you can get a bit more sleep x

Not much going on here. My DH has taken my girls out, so it is nice and quiet. Luka has been down since his 8am feed, so I am waiting for him to wake up. He is sleeping really well, so that is a good thing. Hopefully all is going well with you all and your bundles of joy! x

I belong in the March 1-15th thread but our little princess Lucinda was born 6 weeks early so I am dropping in to join this thread.

My bub tends not to burb either!! I find it frustrating as she scrunches up in pain until finally she lets it out of her bottom !!! in a very unladylike fashion lol!!!!.

I am BF and really enjoying it although the 3 hrly feeds are a killer. I don't seem to remember them being so hard with my last ones, but I guess that was 8 yrs ago lol.

Looking forward to watching and chatting whilst our bubs are growing up.....

wow theres a lot of us in here now and im luven it having all you girls to share stories with is wonderful BUT... today im just so tired i couldnt do perssies if i tried lol im so tired rite now i have sore eye balls :lol: but i promise to try and catch up in the next few days,charlie is still feeding every 3 hrs and is having a lot more awake time now as well,thank god for my dh :clap: helping me out all the time id be lost with out him.
all is going well though charlie is a very windy little girl so im not game to leave the house atm so hopeing this will pass soon ,rite now im waiting for her to do poos as she has not done one yet today and she still cries when she does i think the sensation of it still freaks her out as there soft poos but it still upsets me to hear her cry like that :doh:
any ways girls going to lay down for 5 mins while i can lol

Get some sleep Smithy whilst you can - I do the same get half an hour here and a few hours there - since swapping teets Jayde has been far more content.

I took her in the car for an hour today (longest she has ever been in it) our to see my grandparents, as my grandfather (her great grandfather) is not very well at all, and I wanted to get some pics with him, he loved her sat with her for over an hour, and then when I put her on the mat he sat there and watched her...

Thanks Hun - he loved it, it made him so happy and we put her in the outfit they brought her so that made both him and nan happy. He has cancer and has been unwell for a while now. I am just glad she decided to come into the world when she did - so that he got a chance to meet her

Smithy - sleep when you can! I am surprised how much Luka's birth has knocked me around. Like you I would be lost without my dh, don't want him to go back to work! Two more weeks of being spoilt for me.

Colestar - sorry to hear about your grandad. I hope you guys get a bit more time with him and he can get a few more cuddles with Jayde. I love your ticker pic, she looks so restful!

Kazaraz - my child health nurse was worried about Sophias weight and made a big deal about it, then dissapeared into Narnia! Lol! Perhaps she's just busy? Do you have her number? Hope his Jaundice is clearing up either way, DD1 had jaundice and she looked so sickly and sad!

mrzbaby - those little newborn poos are rippers aren't they lol! I often thing Sophia has done a poo but find a clean nappy, or worse, a skidmark! :lol: Hows your little one going, were there any complications with her being prem?

smithy - it must be so strange having all those new sensations! Sophia tends to have a little whinge before doing a poo as well. Hopefully Charlie will feel better soon!

Colestar :hug: isn't it funny how bubs always seem to pick good times to be born? Hope you and your family are doing well, sorry to hear about your grandad.


I think Sophia is having a growth spurt, she was feeding literally all night last night and most of the day today. Is week 3 a wonder week?

aww thanks neenee,weve just had the big poo and she cried her little eyes out but again it was soft but thank you so much for the reasurance hun as you say its still all so new to them i guess.hun your little girls pic in your ticker is just beautfil shes so cute

oh and guess what i got 2hrs sleep today and i feel heaps better :lol:
