Teagz you poor thing, i had a brother die from SIDS and i have no idea how my mum coped i was a paranoid freak with Ava, especially as she was born the same month as Marty and the month he died i was watching her like a hawk.
I must say that i personally learnt that Ava slept how she was comfortable, once she could roll there was no stopping which way she slept, does he sleep on his side? i know they say not to do that too but i have found sometimes if Z is on her side i can slip something behind her and she sleeps like that all night without a drama.... i'm not in the habit of putting things in her cot and believe me the SIDS msg is well known and received here but sometimes you do need to do what you need to do...
Z is biting down on things, she thinks it's hilarious to bite my nipple or suck JUST the end of it while looking at me smiling.
Well we have moved, were in the new house and Z seems to be sleeping better in the cot at night, she has slept through from 7 to 6:30 a couple of times, last night was til 5, back down then not up til 9ish.
She is VERY clingy during the day though and every time i eat she is on my knee, sometimes i think she is ready for solids, she watches us eat, tries to get our forks etc, opens her mouth... she was chewing on one of A's plastic spoons yesterday. Am torn though, A started at 5mths then gave up til 8mths, i don't want to rush it but Z is a bigger girl, very hungry feeding every 2-3hrs and growing so much faster.. why can't kids have a damn instruction manual... lol
Oh Teagz yes! DD has been chomping down while feeding more often of late, last time being today. She's got a bottom tooth emerging. Got to get her a teething necklace.
Welcome Jennie!
Leah, congrats on the move. I hope you are all settling in well. DD has been super clingy too. She also seems really interested in solids and I'm considering starting solids especially since she has not gained ANY weight for almost 3 weeks now. I'm just taking it week by week at the moment as she seems happy enough and is pooping and weeing aplenty.
Nah he won't sleep on his side... mum tried when she was here because it was the thing with us to sleep bubs on their side - sleeping him on his back freaks mum out so much, kinda like me with the belly sleeping.
We have one of those monitor pad things that sense when they stop breathing, and I make sure his rugs are tucked in super good so they don't go anywhere. and he *is* strong with his arms and able to lift his head right up *sigh*... I think I might try flip him tonight before I go to bed and see what happens..
he's going to send me grey!
And yes! Jacksons been doing the sucking on the tip thing too! They must be testing their limits... I'm getting toey with the biting tho, especially with teeth on the way! Glad we're not the only ones
Teagz - I can totally understand how you feel, I was exactly the same with my DD. She was also a tummy sleeper and had reflux and we spent the first six months of her life trying to make her sleep on her back and she wasn't comfortable so she practically NEVER SLEPT!! We had two miscarriages before DD so were also terrified about anything happening to DD and we wanted to do the right thing, but she just only slept on her tummy! I ended up taking her to a paed about her reflux and he told us it was fine to put her on her tummy, plus we have the same monitor you have (I refused to let her sleep on her tummy even during the day until I bought one, so we now have two monitors!!), and I told myself that as she could roll over anyway (she learnt to roll very early), then it was fine to let her sleep on her tummy. I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I know exactly where you are coming from!!
DS is also biting, he does the biting thing right at the top of my nip too and it hurts, the little bugger! He is becoming VERY loud these days and very responsive, I am loving it! He is sleeping much better now too, usually wakes only once or twice for a feed and is much easier to get back down again now.
I bought some baby food the other day but I don't think DS is ready yet. He hasn't started watching us eat or anything and seems quite happy so I will wait a little longer but I am all ready when he wants it!
Im so scared about the SIDS thing DD sleeps with me in my bed coz im such a sook!! Poor DP sleeps on the lounge lol or spare bed his choice lol he dosent want to roll on her!
I sleep her on her side, she settles well like that, but she ends up on her back
I give DD some solids, I make her Pumkin and Potato mash and today I gave her pureed peach and pear (I put the blender in on an angle and it went EVERYWHERE!!! oops)
Shes a big girl tho, my child health nurse suggest trying her on solids earlier as she is pretty unsettled...I think its helping tho
Jennie13 - i love the idea of co-sleeping but DD wakes so much more if she's in with us i just can't do it.
She's been in with me the last 2 nights and although i love the cuddles she's driving me mad.
Teagz - hows Jackson going with the sleeping, still on his tummy?
Is he still biting, any sign of those teeth?
Eluned - thx hun, still slowly unpacking a few things, with Ava trying to help and Z feeding every 2-3hrs it's been FUN
How are you guys going?
AFM - i gave Z her 1st lot of solids this morning, just some rice cereal and she ate it like a pro, opened her mouth for the spoons and Ava 'helped' by giving her a couple. (pics on FB)
Before anyone says anything about the WHO i am aware of the age suggestions and i wanted to wait until 6mths but i couldn't hold of any longer Z is feeding every 2-3hrs all day every day, she WAS down to 1 feed a night but is now sometimes having 1-3.
During the day at times she is quite grizzly and unsettled and i eat majority of my meals with her on my knee trying to steal my food or my fork.
She is a very happy smiley baby but lately aside from teething she's just not herself, she is awake from 1.5-2hrs then down for a nap the longest i am getting from her atm is about an hr then she's up and feeding again.
She's bigger than Ava ever was and i honestly think she needs the solids, not that i think i have been starving her but i think it's def time.
Gee can you tell i am still trying to convince myself of my reasons .
We are pretty much settled in and are having MG here on tuesday but am still slowly unpacking the things we don't use every day - has everyone found a mothers group?
DP is away for the long w/end and Z has been feral over night and i am so so tired but have things to do as MIL is possibly coming tomorrow so today off to buy a gate for our stairs then back home to run around like a freak and clean clean clean.
Sorry for such a me post, hope everyone is well.. been quiet in here.. hope all the mums n bubs are well.
zarava - don't feel bad about giving Z solids already hun, that is fine. I saw my GP the other day and he even RECOMMENDED starting solids anywhere from 4-6 months, depending on when the bub shows signs of wanting it. And apparently if they are able to take the food from a spoon and not push it out with their tongue, and are watching you eat and trying to get at it, then they are ready for solids. My DS is definitely not ready yet, but I would have no trouble at all giving it to him if I felt he was wanting it. It's hard when you want to do the right thing and be a good mum and there are always critics out there, but I think you are doing a great job!! Sounds like she is well and truly ready. I hope it helps increase the time between feeds and gets you a little more sleep at night!
Glad to hear that you are getting settled into the new house. It is sooo hard unpacking with a toddler!! And no, we don't have a mothers group this time around, I was thinking maybe it is only something they do with your first bub?
Zarava, Jacks been sleeping well... albeit he gets up early ^^; He's still sleeping on his belly. Some nights when I've checked on him he's even rolled over onto his side (which impresses mum who is from the old school sleep them on their side SIDS rule XD) I've started to relax a bit about it tho. I also did some research about mattress wraps that apparently help reduce SIDS which can be caused by fumes in the mattress (dunno how true it is but can't hurt!) so he has a nice fume free mattress now XDD Apparently they're all the rage in NZ.
As for solids, J is exactly the same when I eat... DH really wants to start him on some, but I'm not ready yet :P The kid has all his life to eat real food, so he can just wait another three or so weeks, dammit!
Well I must dash, Jackson is on my lap and he's trying to type thru how horrible a mother I am for not letting daddy give him a piece of carrot last night
Just a quick question is anyone else having a 6mth check-up for bubs?
We moved and as Z grows so quickly and has been unsettled i thought i would call and ask for a 6mth appt and to go meet the new MCHN, the lady said they normally do 4 & 8mths but she will say because we moved i have requested a 6mth appt.
I checked A's book and she had a 6mth.. hmm interesting.
Z has been a right PITA i have no idea whats going on with my poor girl, am trying some infacol and colic relief, she's not at all herself.. she's farting HEAPS but hasn't done a #2 in about 3 days... maybe it's another growth spurt, god i hope not she's already WAY ahead of what ava was at that age.
She is LOVING rice cereal, opens her mouth for every spoon... little pig.
yep, my chn booked me in at our 4 month check up.
I don't know if that's because we're meant to tho, or because Jackson had only put on the 'minimal' amount of weight on in 5 weeks (480grams) and she wants to keep an eye on us. oO;
Sounds like everyones bubbas are coming along nicely!
I was asked at DS 4month check up if i wanted a 6month one otherwise they dont do another one until he was 8 months old. So i decided to make a 6month appointment as well i like to know how long his grown and how much weight hes put on.
With the poos Zavara has she just been having farax? I noticed when seb started on it, it seemed to consipate him a little so i add in pears to counter act it Also i guess during winter we dont drink as much fluids espically water which makes them poop less as well.....well so i have found anyways.
AFM - seb got 2 teeth when he was 4 months old and it looks like theres another 2 just about to pop through We started him off on solids properly about 2 weeks ago and so far he just has tea and loves it, im spoon feeding and trying some BLS and he seems to like to be able to feed himself better
He rolls around everywhere and can get to where he wants to by doing this Also has the whole bum up face plant kinda crawl going on!
Also hes reflux is pretty much non existant now and very rarely needs any of the tablets we got for him!

Zarava- With Amber, the MCHN at her 4 month checkup gave us the option of a 6 month check. However this time around at our 4 month check she didnt even mention the possibility of it. Maybe Z is all shirty at the moment because she is having that 6 month brain explosion a little early. I remember that was a time for a huge developmental leap. Just a thought.
Seb sounds like he is going great guns Minny!
We have not started solids yet. Alice is just not ready for it. Amber started at 5 months but I cannot see us starting here for another couple of weeks at least. Ah well, I am in no hurry!
Have people stopped wrapping yet? We use a woombie for Alice's sleeps and I am not sure how I am going to wean her from her straight jacket when the time comes. My girls are so different. Amber at this age was already into a sleeping bag!
Still no rolling here but again I am in no hurry for her to be moving!
We havent stopped wrapping yet either i would love to though i have the sleeping bags ready to go, but DS has some exzema on his forehead and if hes not wrapped he scratches the crapola outta it! Frustrating!
jen - good to hear from you. We stopped wrapping Josh at around three months as he didn't stay wrapped no matter how tight I wrapped him anyway! He has been in a sleeping bag for a while now and seems fine. Maybe just try her without the wombie and see how she goes? Is she a good sleeper? Josh is also not rolling yet, although I think he has the strength to do it, just not the interest!! He is very happy these days and laughs all the time and has also started squealing... I am not too fond of that one! We haven't started solids yet either, he is starting to have a little interest in food, but not much yet.
We were also offered a six month check if we felt like it, but I am just going to wait til the 8 month one. Wish I had booked a six month one though as I really want to know what he weighs now!
We don't wrap here either anymore... but my little turd likes to be put to sleep on his belly then rolls himself onto his side and spends the rest of the night that way. Humph. It's quite cute, he puts on arm under his head... it's quite a grown uplooking sleeping possie for someone so little, it makes me wonder if he ever gets dead arms sometimes!
Hi beautiful mummies! I finally have a chance to sit at my computer instead of browsing on my phone! So now I can type a decent reply!
We started solids with Amelia on the weekend. So far she's had Rafferty's Garden baby porridge with banana, roast pumpkin, pumpkin soup and a piece of pasta. Trying to lean towards the more BLS route, but going to have to do some mushy stuff as well. We need her to put on some more weight as she has not gained anything in over a month now Took her to the GP who confirmed she is in perfect health and recommended comp feeding for a few days, so we go back tomorrow. I doubt there will be a change on the scales because she refuses a bottle from me and only took a few sucks of one from DH last night. This was with EBM as well. Tonight though I managed to get her to drink 30mls of formula after her 7pm feed. Then she spat it and went back on the boob. I've been expressing and feeding so much these last few days, I'm exhausted. Had a massive 2 hour nanna nap this arvo (with Amelia lying next to me feeding! lol).
Our next MCHN check is at 8 months. CHN was checking her weight at 4 months but was happy with her progress to leave the next appt to 8 months and suggested I see GP about the no weight gains, which we've just done. Such a vast contrast to DS where I was down at the clinic every bloody week because he wasn't gaining weight from day 1.
I was supposed to get a wee sample from DD, do you know how hard it is to sit and wait with a cup for them to pee?!?! Still waiting. I'll have to tell the doc tomorrow, I wasn't able to get one.
On the wrapping, we wrap for day sleeps and sleeping bag at night. However, tonight I've wrapped her just to see if she will stay asleep longer. It's normally as I'm hopping into bed she wakes up and won't settle until I bring her in with me. The night time snuggles are just so cosy but sometimes I just want to stretch out lol
