We've been letting Harlee suck on banana recently.. she was very unsettled one day last week and my mum said let her suck on some food maybe, so we did.. and she was so happy! Banana only atm as we dont want to get too carried away. She's been sucking on banana while we eat dinner most nights now, but last night she took a big chunk off and tried to swallow it, she choked pretty badly, lucky my family was there and we all managed to get her upsidedown and get the food out. I was a bit scared of that, so we mashed it and put the banana in front of her instead. I'm still not keen on spoon feeding though, or rice cereal, it was very cute as she was in the high chair and she made the biggest mess of my parents dining room! She would splat her hand in the middle of the plate, banana would go everywhere and then she would put her whole hand into her mouth, lots of concentration was required from her and because she is still quite short, she was sucking the banana off the edge of the high chair table. She had alot of fun, everytime she caught our eye she would give us a big cheezy grin.
And we think she might have chicken pox.. but were not sure. There is only one dot but we cannot figure out what else it might be!!
Better go.. making cookies again for dh and I can smell something burning!
Tali: naw thats cute about the bananana! as for choking - its kind of how they learn! 99% of the time they cough it back up. this will sound funny - but she choked that = good. if she breathed it in and wasn't making a noise - thats when one hits the panic button. (from my experance doing first aid lol) as for chicken pox - if she only has one spot and its not 'spreading' then it may be a mossie bite. when DJ had the pox it started out as two or three mossie bite looking lumps and within 2 or 3 hours his belly was covered in them! vic has been bitten by a few mossies of late. the poor thing. but then again so i have i
AFM: vic can roll good now. looks like he might be going into the porta cot for day sleeps at nigh he's still with me and he's too big for the bassent now. he's currently asleep on the lounge room floor on a thin foam mattress we have. he's getting more and more interested in soild food. but i've said christmas day he can chew on some steamed carrot or alike - he'll be a few days off 6 months. so thats a good effort. i also think he's teething as well - i say that due to him being so unsettled. but also thrown into the mix is all he wants to do is roll! he can also semi scoot backwards too (which is cute seeing as he does this while trying to get a toy in front of him!) and can also spin around in a half cercal! which is cute. but sad. he's growing up too fast . we're also getting read for christmas madness which means that xmas eve = my folks (or our place!) xmas day = lunch at my cousins (with the whole family so near enough to 30 people!) and dinner = IL's place minus BIL and SIL * rolleyes* and boxing day the hour and 10min trip to see all of dads side of the family. it'll be interesting to see if my cousin who had her DS 10 days before Vic will be there. i know she's having issues with MI atm, but i cbf'd tip toeing around her, every one seems to be and i dont honestly think its helping by the sounds of it
Now im off to try and make a baked custard!
This will be my last post for a while because I'm off to NZ with DH and L tomorrow for our Family Christmas Holiday. L will meet alot of DH's side of the family including his Great Grandmother! So excited.
The christening went well except for uncle moneybags who bought him a $400 gift but couldn't actually be bothered coming (yet he could be bothered taking his girlfriend to Thailand for a week for her 30th a couple of weeks ago). Was so annoyed with him and the fact that he bought such an extravagant gift when no-one else had. So when L is older will he ask why his Nannie and Grandpa (my mum and dad) didn't get him anything?? Was so annoyed ... But other than that it was a beautiful day. L was so well behaved.. didn't mind all the cuddles and had a good sleep that night!
Good news... I'm staying part time next year ... 4 days a week still.. so Friday's is my new day off! YAY!
Just want to wish you all a very very merry christmas. First christmas' with our babies! I hope they are special! can't wait to see the pics on Facebook.
erica: enjoy Nz, may the ground remain stable for you and have a wonderful first christmas with Lachlan earthside
AFM: been baking away like a mad women. making up some short bread things for christmas/boxing day. the boxing day ones have to be gluten free as all bar three cousins on that side cant have it! but lucky now the Glutinfree flower is so, so, so much better then it was 4 years ago! vic is getting more and more interested in food. so tonight when we have dinner he can munch on and check out some Broli and colliflower.
bbl, gotta go save the bikkies from burning!
Merry Christmas every1 hope all the u & the LO's got spoilt by Santa! Hope the families weren't too stressful. Sorry ive been a bit quiet lately in this thread I've been run off my feet busy along with the AD deciding now is a gd time to not work upped the dosage on gp's advice so see how we go.
but on a high note I have a referral for a gyno so I will hopefully getting a "tidy up" down there in the new year.
We have not had all that much happening here except Mr c being true to his accident prone form and burning his finger on an iron that I had turned off & thought was cool. It's not too bad & the gp has given it the ok but keeping an eye on it *sigh*
How was ur trip to NZ Erica?
Tali- I was thinking that elf hadn't been in 4 a bit...bb stalk? Lol
How's every1 else?
Oh poor mr c! That's terrible glad that its not too bad tho.
Harlee's blocked tear duct is getting so bad that in the mornings her eye is stuck shut. We have antibiotic drops atm but they are sooooo hard to put them in! We are going to another doctor in the new year to see if thee its anything else we can try.
Harlee is sitting by herself very well now, she only topples over if there is someone behind her and she wants to look at them.. She's a but of a sticky beak and won't take her eyes of them so she falls backwards!
Harlee is still enjoying her fruit, not really eating much, but no longer choking or gagging because I think she has learnt that the food is meant to go down her throat. She has been enjoying peach and nectarine.. We gave her a bit of strawberry and she was very happy for a few hours and would not go to sleep so that will have to be a special occasion food!
We are sort of doing bls, the only thing is sometimes we hold the food for her because she drops it when it gets too slippery!
We had a christmas.. On our way to the city now for our second last family meal..we had one on friday, two yesterday and two today. Last night I weighed myself and I had put on 3 kg.. Dh had put on 5! But I was quite ill over the night, I had a prawn at mil house and it did not taste right.. I m back to my normal weight now, but still feel so crook.
So many family fights yesterday.. With my dads family this time. My papa almost had a jersey attack because my uncle was picking on him saying he was in the way and papa is not able to walk anymore and its a touchy subject and he's trying to tell back but his speech is slurred so we couldn't understand then my uncle is pushing him..ugh..it was terrible.
Mil got told off by sil, because was giving Harlee all her toys at once and making Harlee upset and she didn't know why.. Sil got very angry at her.. It was great, I didn't feel like such an out cast for once.
Almost in the city now.. Better go, hope your all enjoying the break
AP: i hope things level out for you. and mr Cs finger gets better (the poor wee man!)
Tali: gah familys are fun at christmas aren't they? who ever said it brings out the best in people...LIED!
i hope you girls had a good christmas though...next year out LO's will be 18 months old 0_o
AFM: xmas eve was nice spent time with my cousins and their twin girls. christmas day was interesting. i found out my cousin is struggleing with her two girls and her DH isn't a huge help - like he spent xmas eve FISHING! then got drunk xmas eve (i got a little tipsy) and xmas day same thing. and got flustered when one of the girls wouldn't settle. i feel for him as he works 60hrs+ a week. but he'll get *****ty if his DD's a whingey when he gets home - when his wife has had them all day maybe he'll realise soon how hard it is for his wife. xmas dinner was nice. no SOL (OL= out law LOL) or BOL. just PIL. but they want us there tomorrow to see the BOL and SOL. i CBF to be honest. i've made it clear they wont be darkening my door step once we've moved. the boys got spoiled! boxing day was nice too seeing all my dads side of the family. saw my cousin whoes dealing with PND. i think i may have found part of the reson why she's so down. she's loney which brakes my heart. i told her about BB and my username. hopefully she'll join up. i think she needs 'out side' support.
ah better go feed the boys now. and get DH to call PIL and ask for lunch tomorrow not dinner and BOL and SOL aren't available!
Did everyone spoil their LO's for christmas? We didn't... cos we were travelling.. but Mr L got spoilt rotten by his relatives!
He did great on the flight over.. but not so great on the flight back. We think he had an upset stomach.
We also bought a new camera... just uploaded new photos to FB.. Quality is soooooooooooo much better than our old camera.
What's everyone doing for NYE? We had our plans cancel at the last minute so it's just a quiet one for us tonight. Maybe next year Mr L will be old enough to appreciate the fireworks. We have friends in Balmain so we will probably head to their place for a BBQ.
OK, enough from me... take care mummies! Speak to you all next year.
Last day of holidays before I go back to work *sigh*. Mr L is starting at kindy 4 days a week now and I will have Friday off so I'm still only working part time *yay*
Travelling with Mr L was great, he was such an easy baby and loved all the cuddles! We brought a pillow on the plane so he could sleep on my lap. Even the time difference didn't bother him. As soon as he was home he settled right back into his old routine and sleeps through the night *yay*
Hope you are all well!
Any babies have teeth yet?? Mr L doesn't have any symptoms of teething yet! He is loving his food too! Anyone know when we can introduce egg into their diet?? I don't think there is enough protein in the solids I'm giving him.
erica: aww about going back to work. i honestly dont know how you do it! as for eggs...well we gave DJ egg when ever i had it *well cooked though!* and never an issue. they have some screwy thing about 8 months this 12 months that but i know from talking to a nurse who was helping out in a massive allergy study (DJ got the skin Pr ! ck test done to help) and she said those guidlines are a little fuzzy seeing as the rate of allergic reactions to egg, wheat, soy, nuts and that other one ( ) is going up. if you want more protean but are worried about the egg use chic peas. they're nummy and full of protean...speaking of which i better soak some for tomorrow for DJ!
AFM: been busy here. vic is rolling like a mad man and munching away on odds and ends. mainly cheese, banana and carrot. he's also had ice cream (thanks DH ) but didn't like that too much.
Better be off and do some washing while both boys are asleep!
phew i finally made it back. how was everyones xmas and ny?
i also dont no how u do it erica, i would not cope very well... oh and i dont think it matters, MIL was saying that they think (she attended a conferance in melb about it) that u should not delay giving them foods they are likely to be allergic to, their bodies will be more likely to react to the foods if they dont get exposed early.
mr c is like a velcro baby atm, im not allowed out of his sight and most of the time he doesnt want to talk to or he held by anyone else. its a bit annoying cos DF is home til 10th jan and doesnt see him very much during the week (generally gets home just before or just after bedtime) but mr c is not wanting to spend time with DF if im in site.
it looks like we are finally going to get a tooth thru in the next couple of days, its JUST THERE!! mr c is loving avocado, apple and carrot, not to mention the dried fruit without any sulphites that he got in his stocking at xmas. the only downsides are a) he thinks he should have the spoon (and feed himself) if i am feeding him puree b) be able to have anything and everything i am eating or drinking...
his finger is almost completely healed with not even much of a scar (phew) bloody MIL acted like i was massivly irresponsible for letting it happen tho. hello i am not going to intentionally let him burn himself!!!!!!!!
WELL we now know mr is not allergic to dairy or wheat etc BUT is allergic to egg. he came up in hives all around his mouth and hand when he got fed pavlova mixture, made from egg whites, cornflour, vinegar and sugar, (DF: "but he wanted some!") on xmas eve. he then got a burnt bum when it came thru the poor li man. on the upside it didnt seem to be too bad i washed his face and hands and put his rash cream on the hives and they went away within 1/2hr. bit scary tho cos my cuz has an anaphylactic to egg...and wheat and soy and dairy...
Dani- whens DJ's bday? end of jan or start of feb?
anyway holy cr*p its 11pm im off to bed.
smooches to everyone
Thanks for the advice ladies! I'm going to start him on some cheese and chickpeas and egg yolk I think. He's loving eating banana, avocado and mango as he can squish it and play with it. Love watching him get all excited about food. DH gets panicky because he is making a mess, but I just go with the flow and clean him up afterwards.
Dani - what is happening with DJ? Why are you going for tests? And I saw something about a special school on FB?? Hope all is OK.
Can you believe our babies are 6 months old already????
AP: grr bight work DF! dont you love men going "she'll be right" but not 'cleaning up the mess' that follows? i hope Mr C feels better soon
erica: naw thats cute. Vic grabs stuff but smooshes it into his cheek then gets upset cus its not in his mouth unless its a rusk or something like that. then he's happy to gnaw on it for a while.
AFM: been a crazy week/weekend. DJ has had a blood test (two shots to get *all* the blood they needed) which wasn't nice. but each step is one closer to finding out whats happening with him. so Vic was left with the IL's for about an hour and a bit. he was good for them. it was hard for me seeing as i've not left Vic with anyone but DH. Vic is going well. rolling over to get places as well as the "bulldozer" which is bum up head down and then push off. it looks like it would hurt. but clearly not that much as he keeps doing it! over the weekend Vic and DJ had a splash in the clam shell pool we have. vic was really interested in his hands under the water and splashing. DJ was splashed every where! thankgoodness we have a tank so filling it up wasn't an issue. then they got "noodie run" time in the back yard. which was cute. but poor Vic got eaten by mossies (just like his mumma) but they enjoyed it which was nice. we also went into telstra to check out phone plans/prices and they charge like wounded bulls - but its eather them on Optus. but i think we'll go with telstra as they seem to be better coverage wise. ahh better get back to it. hope every ones monday wasnt too bad!
Dani- poor DJ blood tests are bloody awful! fingers crossed they show something up so it makes it worth while. hehehe at the nudie runs bet that was fun! did u pinch their cute lil bums?
erica- forgot to say before, glad ur holiday was good, did the family love him to pieces?? bugger about being back at work
AFM: we have moved onto trying him on more substantial foods like rice and yoghurt as he has been waking up to feed every 3 hours (for the last month or so) as well as in between just cos of his teeth so im still feeling pretty wiped out, to make matters worse DF went back to work yesterday so no more catching up on sleep in the mornings. still no closer to cutting that damn tooth i wish it would just hurry up and put him out of his misery.
we are a step closer to being mobile, mr c had been doing REALLY slow motion comando crawl when he really wants something thats directly infront of him, like a phone or camera or anything else hes not allowed to have lol. other than that hes a roly-poly man still.
anyone elses bubbas taken to chucking massive tantys? just the last couple of weeks if anything doesnt go his way (like getting boobie just cos not cos hes hungry, or not getting any of my icecream) he throws himself around yelling and screaming!! maybe its just the teething and being tired from that but jeez i didnt think they were meant to do that yet!!
anyway hes up again (after 20min nap *sigh*)
love to all xxx
AP: yep vic has had a tanty when DJ takes one of his toys but thats to be expected when DJ has the exact same toy as vic...and will also happily steal them any way!
AFM: been busy. went to Optus and guess where they dont cover! oh well telstra it is. but the upside is we'll get a T-Hub thingy so hopefully i'll be able to check BB with out turning the CPU on aaaaaaaaaand be uber cool haha. i may also put my phone on a plan but im not sure if it'd be worth it - seeing as DH and I get 1cent texts to each other! mind you go on for 12 months then go back to pre-paid with a noice new phone LOL. Vic is really trying hard to crawl. he can get up on his knees and hands and rock back and forward. then face plant, push off with his legs and go forwards. and also around in a circle. he's also really into food - anything dj has he wants. and 90% of the time he gets it too. tomorrow DJ has another blood test his thyroid function was up but his thyroid its self was ok? plus his immune system was ok but the second line of defence was almost not there? so we have the bloods done again. which will be fun and games. but my folks will watch Vic. as DH is at work. so hopefully friday will bring more awncers then questions!
Ap.. We are also having sleep issues at the moment, it will take about a half hour at least of rocking and singing before she'll shut her eyes and she fights it so much that if she realises she is going to sleep, she'll make a massive grunt and scream and wake herself up!, I blame the teeth though, no teeth, but all the symptoms!
Dani..hope you get some answers soon, it must be really difficult seeing dj get all the tests
