Rooey - I have Save our Sleep... and dont really rate it that well! I tried it for a couple of days (Minus the CC aspect... we dont do that in our house either) and it was horrible. The recomended amounts of feeds in that book are WAY less than Tiah usually has and I couldnt make myself hold her off a feed for hours because the routine said too :(
I do find that when I follow the bedtime routine we have she sleeps a lot better... and on the nights I am rushed and leave out her stories, or even the bath (Yes sometimes I am that unorganised!) she wakes up more?
I really think these few weeks are just a developmental phase eh... well... thats what I keep telling myself. :)
-
B - just a quick question for you. Do you use Woolies or Coles for your online shopping? I did a shop online with Woolworths last week and it was really good, apart from a few items not being available (I didn't mark to substitute). But I had a look at the Coles site and it looks a bit more user friendly.
Thanks :)

To be honest I don't think he wakes any less often when we co-sleep, I think it's just a bit easier for me to shove a boob in his mouth and go back to sleep . He usually has three naps during the day, they very rarely last more than an hour.
I think at the moment it's just easier and a lot less stressful for us to rock him to sleep, I hate him crying for an hour, even if I am next to him patting hm the whole time :(
Meercat, I'm unorganised a lot of the time! I'd like to bath him every night because he has a bit of eczema (my fault, sorry Indy!), but it's more often than not every second night with sorbolene moisturising every night. I try to read to him during the day, and Mum bought him some kids story DVD's, which is pretty much just an animated version of the book with a narrator reading it. So he'll sit and watch one or two of those while I frantically fold washing
I just hope this is a phase that ends soon!
-
maybe try giving him a bath/wash, massage, read a book, a feed, then rock him to sleep every night around 7ish for a few nights and see how that goes. sorry just trying to help! hope i am offering some help at least. good luck with it all and i hope indy settles down soon for u. r u sure he isnt teething?
-
Rooey and Meercat- Very sorry to hear of the sleep troubles. I don't want to sound like I'm bragging or anything but we've found the complete opposite to what everyone else was saying. We don't have anything even remotely resembling a routine and Adrian sleeps from 9pm to 6am nearly every night.
We tried putting him in a sleep routine after coming home but he only slept when he was tired and if we tried to get him to sleep when he didn't want to it was just crying and screaming and because of that we were stressed and felt a bit like failures.
I read some of the Contented Baby book but had to put it away before i burnt it because it made me feel like i was doing everything wrong, like letting him sleep too much during the day and not having exactly 3 hours between feeds!
I experimented a few times ages ago with letting Adrian do his own thing. Other than making sure he ate plenty during the day, I let him sleep whenever he wanted during the day and then stayed up late until he fell asleep of his own accord, then transferred him to his cot. I did this a few times without me interfering or putting him to bed when i thought he 'should' go to bed and I learned his sleep patterns and he learned to fall asleep of his own accord without the fuss and stress of 'bedtime'. I also found he fell asleep better when in the lounge with us in his bouncy or bassinet with the comforting noise of our voices than putting him in his cot alone in his room.
Now, when he has his last bottle and DH and I are watching TV, he is in his bouncy chair and when he starts to drift off i pick him up, wrap him and put him in his cot, or just wait for him to be fast asleep before i transfer him.
I know it's not what any of the books recommend as they all say have a routine, but this is what works for us and if all else fails maybe its worth a try? You might have a few late nights waiting for him/her to fall asleep on their own but it doesn't seem like you've got anything to lose?
My experience has showed me that a book cant tell me how to look after my son but HE can.
Anyway, don't want to sound like a preachy know-it-all but like i said , if all else fails........

Hi Ladies,
I just caught up on all the posts and I would have to admit that I am in the same boat as Jelly. Aidan has no routine whatsoever and seems quite happy most of the time. He still has his unsettled moments, a few more lately which Im putting down to teething. But I have no set feeding times, bathtime, sleep time or a bedtime routine other than wrapping his arms up. Some nights he goes straight to sleep, other nights he wants a cuddle. Im a bit worried about how this will all go once I go back to work and Aidan is in childcare, which is only about 3 weeks away :/ I dont want to go back, but I do. We need my wage and me sitting at home is not healthy (I tend to get lazy and dvd obsessed).
Hope all the babies are going well =)
-
Jelly you don't sound preachy at all, no one is trying to say one method is better than the other. I love hearing about what everyone is doing because there are hints and tips in everyone's journey that I often pick up and try myself. When I refer to our bed time routine, I mean the steps that we follow before DD crashes for the night, not at a set time every day. It always depends on when her last nap of the afternoon was as to when we bath stories etc. It doesn't happen just because we think she should go to bed, it is following her cues. Just wanted to clarify that :) We realised early on we were actually keeping her up too late and she was very unsettled all evening, but when we started a regular bath and earlier bedtime when she first started getting really grizzly, she would crash out soundly, instead of up most of the evening grizzling and sleeping fitfully.
Just like all of us, our LO's truly are their own little people and what works for one may not work for another, but once again, I appreciate being able to hear so many different ways to parent as there's so much that be learnt.
Hi inSom nice to see you round!
Hope everyone gets a good nights sleep tonight :)
-
Hi Ladies,
Insom & Jelly - that's great that you do it with no routine. Some people can tell what their babies cries mean, but I can't. Angus has always put himself in a bit of a routine - eg. feeding every 3 hours. It is really good for me because if he is crying I just look at the clock and I can usually tell what is wrong with him. Our 'routine' (if you can call it that) is always changing depending on his needs. Also, on Saturday we went to a friends house for a BBQ and we didn't get home until about 9, although he did sleep a few times in between. We got home and didn't give him a bath, but DH wanted to still read him a story before going to bed - and then he slept all night.
So I guess they just adjust. Angus is putting himself into this lovely routine of sleeping for 3 hours in the middle of the day. Yesterday I had to wake him up to take him to playgroup and today he won't be able to do it as we are going to have lunch with DH and then Gymbaroo. But I do want him to have a bit of a sleep beforehand, because otherwise he will be really tired in Gymbaroo and won't want to do anything.
Anyway, I've enrolled in another subject at uni to complete my Masters and I really need to get started. So far, I have just done the introduction part (posted in the discussion thread), but I really, really need to get started! :wall::wall:
Hope everyone has a great day. Also, at my new Playgroup a couple of the ladies were saying that they have heard of people who have never had a baby sleep through the night until after 12 months :o
-
Tiah went to bed at 7pm last night... then only woke at 9.30pm and 2am to feed... and slept through till 7am!
I actually feel WORSE having had some more sleep... my poor brain is on overdrive!

I just ordered an amber teething necklace for master Indy, another awful awful night and he's napping for the first time now! Aargh! Thank God his daddy is working from home today or I may have gone crazy
Hello lovely ladies, sorry no personals, going to try and get a nap in!
-
Yay Tiah, Meercat I hope you got another good nights sleep in :crossfingers:
Rooey I put DD's on for the first time today so we'll see how it goes. Good luck with Indy's and hope you got a nap in.
AFM, DH stayed home yesterday to hang out with us, her naps went much better, and same with today. Night sleeps are great again, no more wide awake for an hour at 2am which is a blessing! Hope we're back on track, until the next hiccup ;) Bought a highchair today too, not starting solids til 6 months but it's nice to have her up at our height more.
First night out tomorrow too, have a mate babysitting and just hoping it all goes okay and she stays asleep! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)

Evening ladies,
I feel so depressed today, I'm starting to realise I am doing everything wrong with Cameron!!! Basically, although we have a routine, Cam sleeps for very short periods of time during the day. Today after his bottle at 10.30 am he slept for only 20 minutes. I took him to the gymbaroo class and of course he was pretty grizzly as he was still tired. Then after we came home, he had a feed (he was due for one) and only slept for 10 minutes!!!! Of course by late afternoon he was hysterical as he was so over tired. I think my problem is that after he has a short sleep I don't try to leave him to re settle himself back to sleep. He knows that by whingeing I will pick him up, so de does and that's where I'm failing. Also, I am doing the sleep/play/feed routine instead of the sleep/feed/play, so he tends to fall asleep after his bottles (he associates feed with sleep). When I put him to sleep he is almost or fully asleep so he doesn't know how to put himself to sleep. I have to rock him to sleep which is really bad as he is always counting on me to rock him to sleep. I went to my hairdresser friend today and she has a baby girl 2 weeks older than Cam. She says that Layla has a 2 hour sleep from 8.30 to 10.30 am, and then again from 12.30 to 2.30. She then has an hour nap from 4 to 5 and then goes to bed at 7 and wakes up at 7. What I am doing wrong???? No wonder I am going out of my head trying to entertain a baby throughout the day because he is up for most of it. She did say she took Layla to sleep school at 6 weeks old (Rooey, it's the Koo Wee Rupp Sleep School, comes highly recommended), and they basically taught her ways to make Layla sleep longer through the day. They don't believe in CC, they showed her how to resettle Layla if she wakes up after a short period of time. My problem is that I pick Cam up too soon if he wakes up after half an hour for example, when he is clearly still tired. She said they encourage the patting and walking away thing, but my problem is I can't stand Cam crying so I pick him up. He of course has worked out that if he wants to be picked up he needs to cry. I feel like a failuire today, I feed guilty of not establishing good routines and poor Cam is only doing what I taught him......Sorry for the vent, just feel pretty low. Glad everyone is going well.

Oh Beata please do not feel that way  you are not doing anything wrong at all  many of us are in the same boat with our littlies!
I have to pat DD off for each of her naps during the day (somehow she just goes off by herself at night but not during the day) and quite often she wakes shortly after, getting to that 2nd sleep cycle is like searching for the holy grail sometimes! The last couple of weeks it has been 20 or 30 min catnaps and it's been really hard, so I know what you mean. And don't feel guilty for not establishing a routine, we don't have one! When I refer to routine for me it's more like just the steps I follow, but we don't have any set times. For anything! We do sleep/feed/play, so she wakes, I feed her, she plays, then approx. 2hrs later she goes back down. Sometimes (often) I miss the window and she's overtired, and I have to settle her with a feed so she'll go to sleep. So it has then become sleep/feed/play/feed/sleep and I've thrown out any kind of 'routine'. Just go with what works I say!
With Cam waking so quickly, can you put a comfy chair next to his bed and just stay there, and when he starts to wake, but still really sleepy, pat him/rock him, without lifting him, and see if you can stop him from waking fully? And if he does drift off, then maybe stick close by and do it the next brief awakening he has? It will be really tiring, and trying, but if you manage to get him to start sleeping a little longer he'll start doing it himself without you needing to resettle him. But it could take a good week or two to really kick in. This is how I got DD sleeping longer for naps around 10wks, but had kinda forgotten about it, and started doing it yesterday and today. She kept waking around 40mins, so 30mins after she falls asleep I go in and sit by her cot, and when she briefly wakes I shhh and pat her, and today I caught it twice and she slept for another 1/2 hr. I missed on 3 naps though, but tried not to get stressed out and just thought 'try again next time'. Hey and I am not afraid to admit when it's all too hard I'll put her in the pram and go for a walk round the block, normally she crashes and if I can get back through the front door without knocking the pram on it (bad aim ha ha) I can sometimes just roll her in asleep and I leave her there.
Sorry to go on, I just hate to hear you feel like a failure. You are not a failure. You have a beautiful little boy who loves his Mummy very much and is very lucky to have you. As for your hairdresser, it's great for her that her daughter is so clockwork, but believe me, there are many many many babies out there that are not. Please don't be too hard on yourself
-
Sounds like we are all toughing it at the moment. Lovely mummies (sorry for not doing persies) - you are all doing so well! You all are who are keeping me sane at the moment.
Well, in a different light, Fraser is sleeping reasonably well. Since his 4 months vax, he has been having 3-5 diarrhea nappies per day. Have stopped the Constipation formula for obvious reasons, and onto Nan HA Gold....not making the slightest difference! The CHN called the other day and I mentioned it to her and she thinks it's to far from the vax, changing the formula was the right thing to do and that it should have settled by today....but nope. Went to mother's group on Wed and he creamed the whole time. All the other mummies were at first telling me it was just a phase, but when it continued for 3 hours, they were tiring of it. I know we are in a Wonder Week (21 weeks minus 2.5 weeks prem) but surely this isn't right. I'm at my wits end with the constant wailing and gave Panadol and Bonjela (as I think it is is teeth) tonight.
Why is this so hard :(
-
Hello lovely ladies!
HB, I really hope his arrives today! I paid a bit extra for express delivery, to try and get it before the weekend. I've heard so many good things about them, for teething and for sleeping! Enjoy your night out :)
Beata, Indy only sleeps for about 45 minutes during his day naps, and he'll often only have two :o I wonder if that's one of the reasons he sleeps so poorly at night, cause I'm sure he's missing out on a lot of the sleep babies this age are meant to be getting! I might have to look into that sleep school... especially as they aren't into CC, I don't think I'm tough enough for that :( I often end up feeding him to sleep as well, as he just won't drop off otherwise! If only babies came with an instruction manual, hey :)
Mia, we gave panadol to Indy the last two nights as he was just so grizzly and wouldn't sleep at all! I don't know if he's starting to teeth but he did finally go to sleep, so if it helps don't feel bad. Hopefully all our babies start to sleep better soon.
Hello everyone else, hope there are some of you out there who are having a better time of it
-
HC - good luck with the teething necklace. Fraser has been wearing his since a few weeks old....not sure if it makes a difference but I'm not willing to risk a night without it. In direct correlation to Fraser's current screaming is the fact that he is a lot more tired and is having longer day sleeps, so maybe that is what is needed for some of the babies that aren't sleeping so well in the night? I know that if we spend a day out and about and Fraser doesn't get his usual sleep, he's awful that night.
Anyway, off to the docs shortly. Would it be bad for me to ask to have his voice box removed? :)
-
Hi girls,
HB, thanks heaps hun. Reading your post made me feel a lot better :p I woke up today determined to change a few things. I fed Cam at 4 am, and when I put him back down I put him in a sleeping bag (don't normally do that, I put 4 blankies on him during the night). Don't know if that made a difference but he slept till 9 am. I then proceeded to give him a bottle to implement the sleep/feed/play routine (as opposed to the feed/sleep/play we were doing) and it was a bloody struggle, I managed to give him about 100 ml from 210 ml in the bottle. But I thought, right, if that's all you want that's all you gonna have till the next bottle. We played for about an hour and when he started to whinge (didn't display the usaual tired signs like rubbing his eyes/yawning) I put him in his cot. He grizzled for about 15 minutes, with me replacing his dummy 4 times, and then he fell asleep!!!! That was the first time in months! I did pop him back into his sleeping bag, don't know if that made a difference. He slept for 1 hour, I tried patting him back to sleep but he was fully awake and chatting away to me & giving me big smiles ;). I got him up, tried to give him his bottle (again he only took about 110 ml), I played with him for just over an hour, and when he started to whinge again I put him in his cot and viola! he's asleep again. I just replaced his dummy as he started to wake up and he's asleep again.
I'm glad Arlee is back on track with her sleeps :p. Yay for the high chair!! I've been thinking about one too.
Rooey, I think you should look into the sleep school hun, the haidresser friend swears by it. She only went there as they don't do the CC and it was highly recommended. I got the brouchure off the net today, I will give them a call and book Cam in. It's only a day thing from 8.30 to 3.30. They take your bub off you in the morning and observe him, then they spend the time with you and bub from 12.30 onwards, telling you where the problem areas are and how to change them for the better.
Mia, sorry to hear Frazer has the runs :( I would have thought maybe the constipation formula has something to do with it but if you changed him to the Nan that should have improved the situation within a few days. It's good that you're taking him off to the doc, hope he/she finds the cause and fixes it.
Meercat, yay for little Tiah sleeping to 7 am!!! That's great hun :p
Nat, good on you for deciding to complete your Masters, GL with it hun!
Well hello to everyone else. Today I feel better but something is telling me it's gonna take a while to get Cam to sleep longer during the day. I've decided that it he can do 3 x 1 hour naps during the day, it's OK. I will go to the sleep school though, I'm sure it won't hurt, and it's free!
Hope everyone has a great weekend :p
PS Lil man just woke up, 30 minutes later......I've already patted him 3 times, not having a bar of it. This is going to be a looooooooooong day.

It didn't come today Mia :crying: Indy's usually a lot worse if he hasn't had his normal day as well. Gah what I wouldn't give for a good nights sleep!!! Hope the doc went ok.
Beata, sent off an enquiry for the sleep school. Just took an hour to get him to sleep, how is a baby meant to self-settle when all they do is scream as soon as you put them in the cot?!
Hello all you other lovely ladies!
-
Mia I hope Cam went okay at the Doc's and his tummy has settled down :crossfingers:
Beata hope things are going well at your end, sounds like Cam had a few good runs with his naps, if he's only been going 10/15mins at a time, anything longer that that is bonus so well done! Hope you get into the sleep school soon too, how great that it's a free service and doesn't follow CC methods, terrific!
Rooey I hope your beads arrive soon, DD has had them on for 4 days straight and I think she's sleeping better and not as red rosy cheeks, but it could be coincidence? I'm not 100% sure she has been teething so don't know if I should leave them off until she really is to see if they do make a change? DH isn't comfortable with her wearing them around her neck so they end up around her ankle alot, which end up coming off into her sock, so they're prob not as 'on' her skin as they should be anyways. Good luck with yours!
As for us, the day sleeps have calmed alot, getting an hour, sometimes hour and half again, generally 3 times a day. I'm still staying close to her room around the 40min mark to settle her but am having to do this less and less. Every other night she's still seeming wide awake when she wakes for her 1/2am-ish feed, but I put her back in her cot and she just babbles for about an hour then drifts back off. Not so much babbles, but tests her whole vocal range rather loudly, but happily, so I leave her as I figure if I go in and interact she'll get too used to being played with at 1am!
I think maybe the 'wonder week' has passed, woohoo! Things seems to be calming back down, and we've had success with 2 bottles of EBM over the last 2 days. She has refused bottles for weeks but has taken one the last 2 days so I'll try to keep it up to get her used to it, then I might have a bit more freedom :)
Hope you all had a great weekend, and a good week to follow

Hiya girls!
It'a 6.33 am and I need to sleep!!! lol.
Hope you're all going well and that those with bubs that won't sleep much are not losing their minds!!! I know I do sometimes...;)
Have tried very hard to reverse the sleep/play/feed routine to sleep/feed/play but it's proving very difficult. The only way to feed my little guy it seems is when he is ready for a nap/bed. I have tried getting him to fall sleep on his own, and I have succeeded on two occasions, but most times I have to put him to sleep. I definitely will be booking him into the sleeping school. I thought I'd give it a week or so of trying on my own, but I'm not having much luck. He has dropped one little nap in the late aftrnoon, and as a result he is getting so grumpy by 7-7.30 pm. For the last week or so I've also noticed that when he finally goes down after his evening 7-7.30 bottle, he wakes up 2 to 3 times and cries. I need to re settle him, which usually means rocking him back to sleep. I don't understand why he has begun doing this, he has for a long time just slept through till his dream feed after his evening bottle. He is aslo continuing to wake up 3 to 4 times a night, I usually get up and put his dummy in or just pat him back to sleep. He used to sleep right through.......what is going on???????? :wall::wall::wall:
BTW, what is this teething necklace you girls keep talking about??? Would be very interested.......Cam has had very red cheeks for the last 2 days and is dribbling lots, checked for bumps in his gums but there isn't any yet.....

Hi everyone,
Sorry I'm not going to be able to do personals because I need to go to the airport. My best friend is coming down from Brisbane today and will be staying with us for a week - Yay
Anyway, I know how everyone is feeling with the lack of sleep. Last night Angus woke up every 3 hours and wouldn't settle unless I fed him. He is also being particularly difficult with his daytime naps today :wall:
My Big Question: At gymbaroo today, the instructor mentioned an article in this magazine they have. It was called Don't sit me up Until I'm Ready. It was saying that the baby should not be seated upright until they are ready, or their ability to do so will be delayed.
About 6 weeks ago I changed Angus' bassinet to the seat in his pram and he has recently been using his jumparoo and new highchair.
Does this mean I should stop using them and go back to the bassinet attachment??? I am really confused and wondering what everyone else is doing???
Thanks & sorry about the panic!
-
hey nat,
i have been sitting Hamish up now for around 3 or so months. he has been wanting to sit up and is so close to being able to do it himself. we changed his car sear around too about 4 weeks ago now coz he was trying to sit up with it in the rear facing position!! little worm!! lol. i think its entirely up to the parent really. each baby is so different. go with what u think.
afm, we got Hamish a jumperoo last friday and he loves it!!! its the ocean wonders one by fisher price. he loves being able to stand and bounce and play with toys at the sametime. its so cute!
-
Nat, I think you have to do what you want to do. Fraser has been trying to sit up by himself for about a month now. He's also in his Jumperoo a lot of the time (has been since we got him it about 2.5 months ago!) and screams when we try and lay him down, apart from at bed time. I feel that Fraser feels he is ready to sit up by himself.
Thanks for those who asked after us about our docs appointment. The doctor couldn't find what is wrong, but he agrees there def is something wrong as Fraser shouldn't be squealing all of the time. I took a urine sample (that was fun!) so just waiting on the results of that. It does still seem to be his tummy. He's still having very wet poos about 3 times a day and there are a lot of "rumbles in the jungle" all of the time. Poor bubba - just wish he could tell me what is wrong!
Teresa - how are you going with the car seat turned? I asked our CHN and she said not until Fraser was 8 kg, under any circumstances, and preferably not until 1 year. Fraser too tries to sit up. We bought him a Rainforest Mirror that plays tunes and has flashy lights, and that seems to keep him a bit more occupied. Also, we got some of those Rockabye Lullabies for the car - ABSOLUTELLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!! They are your fave songs done with chimes and it's great! Really calms the car journeys down!
-
mia - he loves being able to see where we r going now. our book for our carseat says 9kgs but he is at least 2kg off of being that!!! besides he has fantastic head control and we thought it was time. only thing is when he falls asleep his head sometimes flops forward and we have to push it back gently but within 30secs its back down again. we just keep an eye on him when that happens. must be comfortable coz he doesnt complain lol. i hope you get anwers soon for fraser. it must be so frustrating knowing that something is happening but u dont know what because he cant tell u!
oh Hamish has the worst nappy rash from teething at the moment!. its much better then it was yesterday but still not nice. doesnt help that i get it looking almost good and he goes and poos and makes it worse again
-
Teresa - thanks - it is very frustrating. Sorry, just a quickie - have u tried Nappy Mate Paste for Hamish's botty? It's very good!
-
i am using bepanthen, curash powder and sometimes moo goo. i did put about 3 liners in his nappy yesterday and put some sudocream on out of desperation. that helped. so did his bath last night. will bath him again tonight. it is looking better. not supposed to use zinc based creams with the cloth nappies but got so desperate yesterday. DH has gone away and taken my bank card accidently with him so i dont have any money until he gets home on friday so i have to make do with what i have
-
Heya mummies! Long time since I posted in here, just realised there was a new thread, lol!
Nat- did the article say what they meant by 'ready', do they mean the baby should be able to sit unsupported before you sit them up? Coz I just bought a Bumbo today and it says that baby can be sat in it as soon as they can hold their head up, and that it actually promotes development...?
I really feel for all you ladies with sleep/nap issues - although I really cannot complain, I did get a taste of what it's like to have a crying unsettled baby at night. For 3 nights and days Blake kept waking and crying hysterically and was really clingy and hardly finishing any of his bottles. I thought I had lost my beautiful placid baby! But I took him to the Dr and turns out he had a sore throat, the poor bubba! As soon as we started on the antibiotics I had my sweet little smiley baby back - phew!!
I'm going to invest in an amber teething necklace when I go to the Pregnancy, Baby and Children's Expo next week. I know of 2 babies IRL that have these and noticed a definite improvement within a day!
Beata - you can get either a necklace or bracelet made of baltic amber beads, and when worn against the skin, the warmth releases a natural painkiller into the bloodstream. Have a google of amberbebe or allaboutamber
As for us, I am happy to say that all is going really well :D On Monday I decided to start putting Blake in his cot for sleeps - up until now he has just been sleeping in his rocker or my lap (i know, very very naughty!!) and his bassinet at nights. I didn't (and still don't) really have a 'plan of attack' i'm just putting him to sleep as i usually do - cuddling/patting/rocking with dummy in and blankie on his face - then placing him in the cot and creeping out the room with my fingers crossed, lol. During the day he's going a max of 1hr before he wakes n cries for me. At night he's sleeping from about 8:30 to 4:30 then i put him in bed with us till around 7. I probably should be re-settling him and putting him back in the cot, but at 4 in the morning i just can't be bothered, lol!
Does anybody else find that their bubs like to have a little blankie over their face to go to sleep? or is mine just odd? hahaha! It must block out any distractions for him or something, but as soon as i put it on his face *bang* eyes close and sleeping begins :) might be something to try if all else fails?
-
Morning ladies,
Quickie post today as I'm off to bed soon, soooooo tired today.
Mia, I feel for wee Fraser, give him a cuddle for me! I wonder what is causing his wet pooey nappies? Could it be some intolerance to something?? Weird about the gurgling sounds in the belly, to me it sounds like something is not agreeing in his tummy. I hope the urine sample tells you what could be wrong! Fingers crossed. Oooh, I'll look into the Rockabye for the car, sounds good :)
Nat, can't help you with the 'dont sit me up til I'm ready'.....Cam doesn't even try to sit up. He only pulls his head really forward when I try to get him up with his arms, and when he's had enough in his bouncer. I've got gymbaroo class today so I'll ask.
Teresa, I was going to suggest a fantastic zinc based nappy rash cream which works wonders for Cam, but I guess you cant use it as you use cloth....sorry can't help! Hope Hamish's rash gets better soon.
ReeRee, hello lovely! So nice to hear from you. Glad to hear all is going well with Blake. It's really good that you have something like a blankie over his face to send him to sleep. Cameron has been struggling with his day naps (no probs with night sleep apart from waking a couple of times during the night but he is only looking for his dummy or wants to be burped so is quick going back to sleep), and my SIL has suggested a while back to get him used to holding onto something when he's falling asleep, like a blankie, so that comforts him/sends him to sleep. I have tried putting blankies in his fists as he's gettig sleepy but it doesn't seem to be woring ATM. Lucky you've got something to send Blake to sleepy land! Thanks for the info on the amber necklaces hun, I will definitely look into it...
Alright, I will countinue with persies later. Woke up with a really fuzzy head today. It's dad's b'day today and I havent got him anything, very stressed as he is extremely difficult to buy for. Oh well, at least I know he likes cake! lol
Have a great day everyone and hi to all!

Hi ladies!
So far so good with Indy's teething necklace, his cheeks aren't flushed anymore and he's less grizzly during the day, whee! Still waking a few times a night, but I'm going the Pinky McKay route. He likes falling asleep on the boob, so I'm going to let him, it's so much less stressful for him and us. He usually goes to sleep in his cot after daddy cuddles at night, but when he wakes I end up co-sleeping with him in the spare room. I'm getting better sleep co-sleeping with him, so it's a winner!
Hope you're all well and have happy babies. Mia, I hope Fraser starts to feel better soon, poor bub.

Hi everyone,
Nat, with regards to the sitting up, I've worked with littlies for many years and have never heard of sitting too early being detrimental to their development. Yes, you should make sure it isn't for extended periods, but short periods of assisted sitting is fine - as far as I know - just my honest opinion :) I'm always mindful not to leave DD sitting with assistance for too long.
Teresa DD loves her jumperoo too, and now her feet can touch the floor so we've taken out the photo album that was helping. She's really starting to manipulate the toys too instead of just bouncing. I guess being able to reach them better has helped! It's fun to watch them enjoy it isn't it?
Mia we use Nappy Mate Paste too, although we've been lucky with very few red bots, but we use it each night for a protective layer before she goes to bed. When do you get the results from Fraser's test?
ReeRee it's wonderful to hear Blake is just cruising along, and his throat is better too. Glad he is sleeping so well also. I went to the expo today, it was pretty chaotic with all the prams but I had a quick wander around (was wearing DD instead of battling it out with a pram!) and was in and out in less than an hour. Very impressed I didn't buy anything, although I really want one of those bubba mats - the contempory one (if you saw them) Hope you have/had a good time.
Beata hope your Dad's birthday went well and the fuzzy head has cleared. I feel like that often ;)
Rooey glad the necklace arrived and is working it's magic, it's nice to go natural when you can.
As for us, I took the plunge and stopped swaddling DD for sleeps. I was all geared up for a week of awful nights and day sleeps and the little monkey has been sleeping right through to 4.30/5am, completely missing the 1/2am feed! Now that I've said it outloud it will probably change, but I'm amazed at the difference! I always thought having her hands out was what woke her, but I think it may have been the battle to have her hands out that was actually waking her.
I am just besotted with her at the moment, she cracks me up all the time and is getting really cheeky. Tummy time is almost non existant because everytime we put her on her tummy she rolls over, and is pretty close to rolling from back to tummy too. Leaps and bounds at the moment!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, get lots of sleep and lots of happy bubs :)

Ree Ree- I put a blankie just over the edge of DS's dummy to stop him from pulling it out and crying when he cant put it back in. We call it Ninja-ing him because he looks like a ninja :) Just make sure Blake can still get plenty of fresh air though :)

Just a quickie from me - I'm too lazy to read back over old threads to find my answer - what is the name of the site some of you were getting your sleep bags from? I can't remember.... thanks in advance :)
ETA was it bambini pronto?

I got quite a few sleeping bags from a little second hand baby goods store in Ocean Grove. If there's a similar store near you they might have some? I've been getting all of Indy clothes from there, so much cheaper
Well Indy's still waking a few times a night, but I'm getting more sleep since co-sleeping with him. He's definitely happier overall with his necklace. Highly recommended!

Hi everyone :)
So I realised I was just getting a bit over-panicked with the sitting up thing and I changed his pram back to the seat thing. He likes to look around and I have his seat facing me, so he interacts lots :)
I was having issues with Angus waking up lots during the night, even when I was doing the dreamfeed. So I got DH to give him a bottle of formula instead before he goes to sleep (usually later than me). Last night he gave him a bottle around 11 and Angus didn't wake up until 3:30 - so that was nice!
Anyway, we are going to the Mint today, so I will get a coin for Angus. Oh and by the way, DH found a bottle of wine the other day - guess what it is called? Angus, the bull and it is 2008 vintage, so I will have to wait until they bring out the 2010 one!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Morning girls,
Sorry no persies today, I have a monster headache again today, this 'not sleeping' during the day is doing my head in ATM. Yesterday I tried to clean the house and the wee one slept for 40 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon. How on earth am I supposed to do anything around the house????!!!! I was just wondering what that seat was called that you can sit bubs in? the one that looks like a potty? I will catch up on your posts soon I promise. Let the haze lift from my head!! :wall:

Beata - I am by no means an expert (sleep is the main issue in my house too! BUT We just got the Tomy Starlight night light thing and it has changed our lives! We put it on when we put Tiah into her cot and she is asleep before it finishes its song. When she starts to stir and grizzle at aorund 40 minutes I go in and turn it on again and she falls straight back to sleep for another hour at least! It was only $30 and you can have it on the cot or free standing... so before bedtime at night I lay in bed with Tiah and we watch it together as well....
-
Beata - a bumbo or bebe pod might be what you're after? I think there's a few other types too..... we have a bumbo but I did really want the bebepod boost as it can act as a booster and strap to a chair so very secure. DD likes her bumbo but quite often leans over the side and then gets stuck and can't right herself. I love the fact it's rubber so when she chucks all over it I can just wipe it off.
Meercat - hi! I've been meaning to say it was lovely meeting you and Tiah - she is such a cutie! Hope you've both been enjoying the clases still :) I think one of the best investments we've made was buying our Tomy star a few months ago. Helps keep me sane and puts DD in a lovely sleepy state. Glad to hear it's working for you guys! I found it a little loud so put some tape over the speaker holes and now it just plays softly. Mesmerising hey?

Meercat, thanks hun :p We've already got the star thingie, I bought it months ago and it seemed to work for a while but then it lost its sparkle :wall: Admitedly we used it as a bed time thing, and Cam doesn't have a problem going off to bed at night, but I haven't used it during the day. Will give it a go, but I'm not holding my breath.....
HB, thanks lovely, I'll look into the one with the strap, if I can't find it I'll get the rubber one. I've heard some good things about them :p
Well ladies, head feels better now. Shipped off my wee man to mum's this morning and I'm cleaning like mad. Interesting how much faster I'm doing it all (instead of taking 2 days to clean :shakehead:) when I know I have only a few hours. Mum said he fell asleep for 45 minutes around 10.30, I swear he has a clock inside his head like a cat!!!!!!!! ha ha. The problem is that when he wakes up from his day nap, he is wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide awake. If he was still rubbing his eyes or was half asleep I reckon this whole pat and walk out thing would work, but he is so totally wide awake, smiling and talking to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How do I tell him that he hasn't slept enough? Naughty little bugger.
PS My SIL who has been trying to fall for ages (she had a blighted ovum a few months ago) just told me she is preggas. She's been on clomid for a couple of months as she's not ovulating by helself due to PCOS so I am over the moon for her and my bro. I felt so bad when she was trying and then had the blighted ovum (that's when there is a sac but nothing inside it) and I just had Cam. Fingers and toes crossed that all goes well for her this time.

Hello Ladies,
Sorry I havent posted for a while, but Aidan has rolled over for the first time yesterday and a tooth popped through during the night. I was starting to feel like Aidan was getting behind, as he is 5 and half months. Im so relieved that he has done these things before I go back to work next week and start to miss out on all these lovely things.
I also bought him a Bumbo. He likes it but gets fustrated after a while and straightens out to try and get out. But its great to have him sitting in it while I wash up or make dinner.
Aidan is sleeping from around 7pm to 3-5am each night. Which is good, as long as he goes back to sleep. A couple of mornings, he stays awake and yells/talks to himself.
Does anyone else's baby have a weird obsession with pulling things over their face. He absolutely loves pulling toys and blankets over his face. It really worries me to the point where I dont trust him to not sleep unwrapped so that he cant do it during the night. Right now he is laying on the floor with a blanket over his face, excited and happy. If you take it off him, he has the hugest smiles. He has the capacity to pull it off himself. But its not normal, right?
Hope all of you are going well. I love the baby photos you guys upload to facebook. I find all my other non-mummy friends a tad boring these days.......
cheers,
B
