Just a quickie from me - I'm too lazy to read back over old threads to find my answer - what is the name of the site some of you were getting your sleep bags from? I can't remember.... thanks in advance
I got quite a few sleeping bags from a little second hand baby goods store in Ocean Grove. If there's a similar store near you they might have some? I've been getting all of Indy clothes from there, so much cheaper
Well Indy's still waking a few times a night, but I'm getting more sleep since co-sleeping with him. He's definitely happier overall with his necklace. Highly recommended!
So I realised I was just getting a bit over-panicked with the sitting up thing and I changed his pram back to the seat thing. He likes to look around and I have his seat facing me, so he interacts lots
I was having issues with Angus waking up lots during the night, even when I was doing the dreamfeed. So I got DH to give him a bottle of formula instead before he goes to sleep (usually later than me). Last night he gave him a bottle around 11 and Angus didn't wake up until 3:30 - so that was nice!
Anyway, we are going to the Mint today, so I will get a coin for Angus. Oh and by the way, DH found a bottle of wine the other day - guess what it is called? Angus, the bull and it is 2008 vintage, so I will have to wait until they bring out the 2010 one!
Sorry no persies today, I have a monster headache again today, this 'not sleeping' during the day is doing my head in ATM. Yesterday I tried to clean the house and the wee one slept for 40 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon. How on earth am I supposed to do anything around the house????!!!! I was just wondering what that seat was called that you can sit bubs in? the one that looks like a potty? I will catch up on your posts soon I promise. Let the haze lift from my head!!
Beata - I am by no means an expert (sleep is the main issue in my house too! BUT We just got the Tomy Starlight night light thing and it has changed our lives! We put it on when we put Tiah into her cot and she is asleep before it finishes its song. When she starts to stir and grizzle at aorund 40 minutes I go in and turn it on again and she falls straight back to sleep for another hour at least! It was only $30 and you can have it on the cot or free standing... so before bedtime at night I lay in bed with Tiah and we watch it together as well....
Beata - a bumbo or bebe pod might be what you're after? I think there's a few other types too..... we have a bumbo but I did really want the bebepod boost as it can act as a booster and strap to a chair so very secure. DD likes her bumbo but quite often leans over the side and then gets stuck and can't right herself. I love the fact it's rubber so when she chucks all over it I can just wipe it off.
Meercat - hi! I've been meaning to say it was lovely meeting you and Tiah - she is such a cutie! Hope you've both been enjoying the clases still I think one of the best investments we've made was buying our Tomy star a few months ago. Helps keep me sane and puts DD in a lovely sleepy state. Glad to hear it's working for you guys! I found it a little loud so put some tape over the speaker holes and now it just plays softly. Mesmerising hey?
Meercat, thanks hun We've already got the star thingie, I bought it months ago and it seemed to work for a while but then it lost its sparkle Admitedly we used it as a bed time thing, and Cam doesn't have a problem going off to bed at night, but I haven't used it during the day. Will give it a go, but I'm not holding my breath.....
HB, thanks lovely, I'll look into the one with the strap, if I can't find it I'll get the rubber one. I've heard some good things about them
Well ladies, head feels better now. Shipped off my wee man to mum's this morning and I'm cleaning like mad. Interesting how much faster I'm doing it all (instead of taking 2 days to clean ) when I know I have only a few hours. Mum said he fell asleep for 45 minutes around 10.30, I swear he has a clock inside his head like a cat!!!!!!!! ha ha. The problem is that when he wakes up from his day nap, he is wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide awake. If he was still rubbing his eyes or was half asleep I reckon this whole pat and walk out thing would work, but he is so totally wide awake, smiling and talking to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How do I tell him that he hasn't slept enough? Naughty little bugger.
PS My SIL who has been trying to fall for ages (she had a blighted ovum a few months ago) just told me she is preggas. She's been on clomid for a couple of months as she's not ovulating by helself due to PCOS so I am over the moon for her and my bro. I felt so bad when she was trying and then had the blighted ovum (that's when there is a sac but nothing inside it) and I just had Cam. Fingers and toes crossed that all goes well for her this time.
Sorry I havent posted for a while, but Aidan has rolled over for the first time yesterday and a tooth popped through during the night. I was starting to feel like Aidan was getting behind, as he is 5 and half months. Im so relieved that he has done these things before I go back to work next week and start to miss out on all these lovely things.
I also bought him a Bumbo. He likes it but gets fustrated after a while and straightens out to try and get out. But its great to have him sitting in it while I wash up or make dinner.
Aidan is sleeping from around 7pm to 3-5am each night. Which is good, as long as he goes back to sleep. A couple of mornings, he stays awake and yells/talks to himself.
Does anyone else's baby have a weird obsession with pulling things over their face. He absolutely loves pulling toys and blankets over his face. It really worries me to the point where I dont trust him to not sleep unwrapped so that he cant do it during the night. Right now he is laying on the floor with a blanket over his face, excited and happy. If you take it off him, he has the hugest smiles. He has the capacity to pull it off himself. But its not normal, right?
Hope all of you are going well. I love the baby photos you guys upload to facebook. I find all my other non-mummy friends a tad boring these days.......
InSom, Indy doesn't pull things over his face, but one of my nurse mates has two kids and they both do . Very exciting about rolling and a tooth! Bugger about going back to work though.
Hello everyone else, hope you're all well with happy babies. Indy's better with his amber necklace, still not sleeping through and wakes a few times, but that's more manageable with co-sleeping so I'm not so stressed! My mate just sent me her copy of Pinky McKay's book (Sleep Like a Baby) so I'll have a read of that over the next few days.
i read that book rooey. its excellent. she pretty much says that what ever u are doing that is working, keep doing it!! she does talk alot about breastfeeding tho. i wish i knew all that stuff when i was bf!!!
anyway i am off on tuesday to go to a support group for premmies and their mums. i thought it would be a great chance to meet other mums especially ones with premmies. plus i didnt do mothers group.
Teresa - that's great news that you are going to a new group. Hope you have lots of fun..
Rooey - glad the necklace is working. A lady at my playgroup has one and said it worked really well too.
Insom - great news about the rolling! Angus learned to roll at Gymbaroo about 3 weeks and did it on his playmat the next day (just once). Then he didn't do it again until a few days ago. Each time I went out of the room he would roll over, but not when I was there. The next day he didn't stop rolling (especially when I tried to change his nappy). It's funny cause he did that with sticking his tongue out too. Mum taught him how to do it a month or so ago and he didn't do it for ages - then all of a sudden he is doing it all the time!!
Beata - that's good about SIL - I know it can be uncomfortable when others are trying to get pregnant and you have a baby. I was one of those people when we were going through ivf. My SIL was very insensitive because she was asking DH why he wanted more children and making out it was strange and then next minute she announces she is pregnant (for the third time).
Anyway, I LOVE the stage Angus is at. He is coming along in leaps and bounds. His rolling is really good and he pulls himself along on his tummy. He can push up on his arms and get up on his knees and push - he just hasn't put the two together yet! Today I sat him up and he can hold himself up for a few seconds! He is poking his tongue out all the time when he is happy and when DH was doing the bedtime routine with him tonight he kept blowing raspberries!! I laughed because he didn't seem to be winding down at all
How is everyone? I've got a very clingy boy today, not sure why. So I haven't done any housework, just spent the day giving him cuddles! I did get to watch The Proposal at least
Is anyone else managing to get any exercise in apart from walking? I did get a couple of full body tone-up workouts in a couple of weeks ago, but now I'm struggling!
Just posting while waiting for DH to come home so i can go to the gym, i try to go at least twice a week but its been hard (does that answer your querie Rooey ) Not so much finding the time as DH is happy to take DS at night, but just finding the energy. I still dont think he fully realises how draining it can be keeping a baby fed, changed, entertained and happy 24/7. Probably because Adrian is such an easy going baby he doesnt realise that it is still constant work.
Insom- Im glad Aidan only just rolled over, Adrian is just gone 5 months and still hasnt rolled over yet and i was worrying that he should have done it by now. He is mostly sitting up unaided now though. Any ideas on exercises that i can do to get him rolling? Tummy time only lasts for a few minutes before he cracks it and then i have to turn him back on his back. I put him on his playmat but then he is too distracted by the dangly toys, if i just leave him on a plain rug, he gets bored really quickly and starts to whinge. I try to give him lots of opportunites to roll but he just doesnt seem interested.
He seems to be doing fine with teething, i can feel the two bottom teeth at the front of his gums but they dont seem to be bothering him much, Im so sick of being covered in drool though!!!!! The front of his shirt is always saturated! I upped Adrian's solid foods as he was going less than two hours between bottles so he has a small serve of mushy fruit in the morning, and an afternoon serve of mushy veges. So far he looooves his solids and opens his mouth as wide as possible when he sees the spoon coming. I have yet to give him something he doesnt like
Anyway, DH just called and said he wont be home for a while so so much for exercising! im gonna go and take my gym clothes of and get dinner started, no wonder us mums never find the time!
Hi Jelly, Aidan wasnt showing any signs of rolling and hated tummy time. But I would roll him over myself and put toys just out of his reach, which is what got him going. He was distracted by his dangling toys too, but the mat that its on has rings and rattles around the edges that he has a new found love for. He still isnt rolling constantly. Now and then he will roll to his tummy and get sick of it and Ill have to roll him back.
Hi Nat - its funny how they roll all of a sudden. Aidan does it mainly when Im not looking. One second he'll be on his mat, then Ill look over and he is on the floor boards on his way to the cat.
Rooey - its good to hear that Aidan isnt the only dork that pulls things over his face. I have a theory that he is playing peek-a-boo
Ive had a couple of cries so far about leaving him in childcare starting Thursday. Im so worried that he'll notice I'm gone and think Ive abandoned him. Also we all know noone knows our babies as well as we do, and worry because he is so little and cant talk and tell me if he isnt happy there. I only left my 10yr old in care once a week and I was always close by and they were very short days and didnt go to work until he was 5 (I was studying). But with working in the CBD of Brisbane, our commute is at least an hour each way which makes for a very long day away from my baby. Not happy at all.
Oh and Ive done zero exercise since Aidan's birth. My bad.
InSom, Cam loves to pull his teddy blankie over his face now. I bought it for him months ago but he never took to it until a few weeks ago. When he goes to sleep, he likes to hold my fingers for a while before he drifts off. So I started putting the blankie in his hands when he is getting drowsy, and now he loves to hold it and put it near and over his face!! I always panic that he won't be able to breathe. Just tonight I went to tuck him in, and he had his blankie right near his face. A few minutes later he started crying so I asked my DF to check on him thinking it's his dummy. He came out of the room and said that he pulled the blankie right over his face. Poor love, at least I know he'll whinge about it and not suffocate
Rooey, I'm glad you're not too stressed about Indy's lack of sleeping! I'm also feeling a bit better about Cam not sleeping much, at the moment I get about 2 naps out of him a day, they usually last about 40 minutes each. I've begun to take him in his pram for a walk after 3 pm every day now (whereas before it was a couple of times a week, weather permitting), so he gets that extra 30 minute nap to get him through to bed time which is usually 7 pm. And I don't excercise at all apart from the walks with the pram. I am actually lighter now than before I got pg, I sometimes just don't eat, don't know why but I just don't have the appetite It's really not good though as I feel I have no energy some days. I've just started taking multivitamins.
Nat, so glad to hear your little man is progressing so well!!!! He is a little star! Cam is still not rolling . Or sitting up......oh dear Or eating solids......apart from farex which he is not too keen on.
Jelly, Cam is really starting to drool and gets red cheeks some days. Can't feel any definite lumps though....
AFM, I've managed to get Cam to fall asleep on his own since Saturday, I am so proud of myself (and of him of course!!). He does whinge and cry for a bit, but then eventually falls asleep. This is during the day. I think the blankie helps....
I am a bit worried about the rolling though, he does go on his side (eg I place him on the mat so the TV is behind him, and he tries to spin his head around to watch it as ends up on his side). I then gently help him to roll over, but he won't do it by himself. I think he's a late starter......I also put toys out of his reach but he seems happy to wait for me to move them for him!!!! My SIL got her blood results today, def. UTD she is!!! 5 weeks along, I am so happy as Cam will have a cuz to play with. My DF refuses to talk about no. 2 ATM, I am losing a bit of sleep over it as I like to be able to plan this ahead.....I turned the big 4 0 in May so my clock is ticking VERY loudly
Anyhoo, hi to everyone out there, hope you and your bubs are doing well
Beata - Babies all develop differently hey. Angus can roll really well and does a comando crawl (even getting his knees up) but he can't sit. There is a baby at our playgroup who has just started crawling and has been sitting on her own for a while but she can't roll from her back to her front. I haven't started Angus on solids at all yet. I've gave him a bit of mashed potato the other day and some yoghurt today when he tried to snatch the tub I was eating from away I should really try the farex soon I guess.
inSom - good luck with the childcare thing. I've worked the nursery of a childcare centre before and I think it's quite good for them. I mean they socialise with other babies and the carers can really concentrate on them. Sometimes I feel guilty that I am not spending enough quality time with Angus because I am doing the housework, study or on the computer..
Jelly - good on you for doing exercises. I haven't done any at all As for rolling, at gymbaroo they have this foam wedge thing and the instructor put him on his back at the top and encourage him with holding a toy out and getting her face down in line with him. It took AGES (well felt like it) but he rolled down the wedge. I think the same could work on a flat surface. Also, she says for babies who don't like tummy time, carry them around the house in the crook of your arm with their tummy down and head toward your elbow. They need to look up to see everything. Another thing - roll up a towel and place it under his chest, but only make it high enough so that his elbows can touch the ground. I bought this toy the other day (the fisher price snail) and it rolls, has a mirror and makes noise when you touch it. Angus loves looking up in the mirror and I think this toy has encouraged him to do his crawl thingy.
Beata, Indy has only rolled from front to back a few times and isn't sitting yet, I'm happy for him to progress at his own pace. Before long we'll both be frantically baby proofing
Just going to lay down for a nap with the little dude now, yay!
Sorry I have been MIA, my little guy has been soooooo unsettled for the past 3 days. He's very whingey and clingy, I'm guessing a growth spurt and/or teething. He has been sleeping OK through the night but hardly during the day....whats new??? lol. Since Wednesday he has been non stop whingey, I try to tire him out so he can sleep a bit more during the day but no luck so far. He's never been like this before, I really hope this is only a phase. We had to miss the gymbaroo class yesterday but made it to a make up class today. He was pretty good actually, but then made up for it after 4 pm, absolute little rascal he was! Just got him down half an hour ago, lets hope he just sleeps now.
I've started giving him the rice cereal every morning now and tried the apricot/peach puree today (should have seen his face, it was a bit sour!!!!). I gave him some banana the other day with the rice cereal, do you think he is adjusting to the solids and that's why he is whingey???? Someone told me that banana and fruit can make them a bit constipated, is that true???
Hi to everyone I am just so tired today after 3 days of non stop cuddles and tears.....
