Second tooth made an appearance today.
So far he is like his big brother in this regard, I'm hoping to avoid cross cutting 8 at once though, that was bad enough the first time around.
Well we got 12 hours sleep last night woohoo

Sorry Ethan has had chicken pox

    Hi all,

Sorry about being MIA as well.

Wow all the things that are happening.

TMTM, I am so hoping Tom doesnt have Whopping Cough. Are you going to the Dr's today to get it checked. Fingers Crossed for you. That article you sent through is very interesting.

    RayRay, wow teeth already.

Dee, poor little Ethan with having chicken pox. So glad he is feeling better and is on the mend. He sounds like a little gorgeous boy.

I am also getting different views on when to start solids. I was thinking of starting around 5 months as well. Lily is also a little chubby baby, but my CYS Nurse also said that you can not overfeed a breastfed baby. But she is seeming so hungry all the time.

We have a mixed sleeping during the nights. Sometimes she will sleep from 6pm (always crashes at this time!) to 4.30 am. Or she will wake once during the night, but it was being around 2.30 am to 3.30 am, but I am noticing it is getting earlier like 12.30 - 1 am.

Lily is having her 2nd immunisation injections today (yucky), which I am not looking forward to.

She started a new development yesterday, when on her back, she is lifting her legs up and rolling to each side. It is so cute. Yesterday as well she just was laughing for about 1/2 hour at me, with full on laughter. I got most of it on video. Just made my day.

I will try and keep more in touch.

Hi girls, it seems forever since I've been on here (probably a good thing- getting alot more done around the house) But I've missed everyone!

Dee - Poor little Ethan I can't believe he got the pox so young. At least the worst is over so hopefully you won't have to deal with that ever again.

TMTM - Thanks for sharing those articles they were so interesting.

Ray Ray - I can't believe there are teeth already. Hope it doesn't interfere with feeding (ouch!)

We are doing really well, Sienna is such a smiley baby can't seem to work out much of a routine yet and I'm also thinking of starting solids soon she seems to be wanting to feed more and more often 2-3 times over night and then most feeds are 2 hours apart during the day with the ocasional 3 hour feed I think that the constant feeding is starting to wear me out. Can anyone tell me how many sleeps during the day (when and for how long) is normal (I use the term loosely)for a 4 month old. You'd think I'd know seeing as I've had 2 already but for the life of me I can't remember. I guess I'd just like to have an idea so that I can look out for a routine if one starts to emerge soon.

Tam I reckon two or three good naps of at least an hour with maybe one other little nap is pretty normal for four months.

I'm sorry you're so worn out!

tom is okay - it's not whooping cough as far as we know, just a nasty virus and a bit of an ear infection.

Thanks TMTM thats pretty much what she is doing although some of her naps are only about 40mins.

Going to ring and book into the natropath today hope she can help to build me up a little energy wise and increase my milk a little too (wondering if the reason she is feeding more often now is because my milk is slowing down) I think I'll try to leave solids till about 5 months but I'll see how Sienna goes.

Tam, have you tried the lactation cookies recipe on this site? It's in the forums somewhere but I can't remember where. They are fantastic! They really work for me. Fenugreek, either in capsules or as a tea (euch shudder) is really good too.

Of course, the best way to build up supply is let the baby nurse all she wants, but that's not always possible, is it? And it is incredibly tiring. Tom's been feeding a lot the last twenty four hours while he gets over this bug and it's knocking me out.

He's doing a lot better today. He was up a bit last night but the cough isn't so bad now.

wow im so proud of all you guys, abit ashamed of myself, jade sleeps thru and if she does wake up i cry or get really angry, i guess thats the PND. the docs have tried weaning me off the valium but so far it hasnt worked (2 days off it and i start getting anxious and hyperactive).

But Jade is going well, those of you that have me on FB would have seen the videos, shes very chatty and happy, the rolling only happened for 1 day though, she seems to have forgotten now!!

also ive been putting a teaspoon of rice cereal in her dreamfeed bottle as it seems to keep her fuller overnight. we hav given her pureed fruit on a teaspoon a few times caus she always watches me eat and moves her mouth in unison with mine as i chew (haha) so i guess shes gearing up for solids!

very drooly and chews on her fingers non stop but no sign/feeling of teeth yet, but it doesnt seem to cause her any pain at all.

Tam: jade has 3 naps during the day anywhere from 1-2 hrs, then usually 6 hrs overnite. her longest awake time is 1.5 hrs, if im busy (eg out shopping or something) and it gets close to 2 hrs awake she gets super crabby and v hard to settle so as soon as she shows tired signs i swaddle her.

i think ive started a bad habit now, i put her in her papasan swing for all her day naps, and only in the cot at night, i did this so she would learn that the cot is for big sleeps (if that makes sense) but now ive found when she stays at XPs and she has to nap in the portacot he has to rock her to sleep. so gonna start trying to get her to have naps in her cot sometimes caus i think i may have created a problem!!

good news also, XP has a proper doctors diagnosis, he is bipolar type 2, which from what ive looked up, is a less severe version of full blown bipolar, instead of manic episodes they have hypomanic (which would explain his strange conspiracy theories, wanting to start his own church, telling me he would be rich and famous but never doing anything about it, and his anger and then shame/apologys afterwards. i looked it up on about.com and it was like reading a profile written just for XP. so yeah he is on mood stabilisers now, will take a few weeks to kick in but hopefuly soon we can discuss alot of things and get along well and help him enjoy being a dad, i want him in jades and my life, just not romantically.

sorry for being so selfish girls, just alot going on around here! but DW, i been FB stalking all your lovely baby photos

    Hi Girls,

Sorry I too have been MIA, time just gets away from me. Have managed to lurk a bit but honestly haven't had the energy to post.

I'm glad to hear some of you have started solids, Jack's has started waking during the night so I am thinking solids soon. I started the other 2 on rice cereal at 5 months, but I don't think I can wait that long for Jack.

TMTM, poor Jack has an ear infection too, he was so miserable. I managed to aviod giving him penicillen and he was finally back to himself today with lots of smiles. I hope Tom picks up soon for you.

Re sleeping, Jack generally has a 1.5 to 2 hour morning sleep, will then go back down at around 1pm and sleep for another 2 hours, and then sometimes have a nap in his bouncer around 6pm and is generally in bed by 8pm. (depending how we are going with the older boys).

Sorry for the selfish post, glad to hear everyones bubs are doing well.

rayray: wow 14 hours, I'm jealous. that's amazing. Max will sleep for 10 hours, with 2-3 wake-ups. He's slept through from 8pm to 7am on occasion, usually after DH takes him for a run in the mountain buggy...must be all the fresh air!

TM: good to hear that XP has got a diagnosis and you can both move forward being great parents to little Jade.

AFM, I just got Max weighed today. 18 weeks today and he weighs 9.1kgs!
What a heffalump! I knew he was heavy, but not that heavy...he's off the charts again.

I felt like such a bad mother yesterday. He went down for a nap at 4pm and put himself back to sleep after one sleep cycle (which is very rare), woke up hungry at 6pm, so I fed him and he fell asleep feeding. At 8pm he was still asleep even after several attempts to wake him up, so I put him to bed and was going to give him a dreamfeed at 10:30pm and DH noticed that his room smelt a bit when he walked in. Poor little thing had vomited all over himself and had done a big poo. I think he had a bit of an upset tummy and was sleeping it off...and I was happy that he was sleeping so much! But after the spew and the poo, he was back to normal and woke up three times last night to make up for it!

We had vaccinations last week...not a single cry. Such a brave boy!

Hope everyone and their little ones are going well!

TreeCP of course you arent a bad mum. I remember Milo got gastro once when he was still pretty little and we only found out when I went in to check him and he was covered in vomit, giggling

We get weighed on Thursday, so I will be keen to see how big Oscar is.
Today he rolled from front to back for the first time so that was vry exciting!

Thanks girls for your imput on the day sleeps, it seems that Sienna is pretty 'normal'.

TMTM - I found the lactation cookies but decided to try the activite instead (just cause I'm lazy and can't be bothered baking at the moment). i had just bought the fenugreek caps too so have been on them. I think that my milk as increased a little so that's good.

I think I'll start Sienna on some rice cereal today and see if she is interested. I think she is hungry thus feeding more at night while still feeding 2-3 hourly during the day, gotta try something, I need more sleep!
How is everyone else going with the milk only for 6 months? I've never waited the full 6 months but with my other 2 I at least made it to 5 so this time I feel a bit aprehensive about starting at 4 I guess I'll just try and if she isn't interested then I'll stop and perservere with the constant breastfeeding for a bit longer.

TMTM - almost forgot to ask. How is Tom? Has his cough settled down? Hope he is feeling better now.

Tam you can't really od on them, so as many as it takes to make yor sweat smell a bit like maple syrup! I was having three capsules three times a day. Hope it works!

Thanks for askin re Tom - he's just about all better now tho I've got his cold. I've started him on a little solid food now. He has a tablespoon or two of rice cereal or pears for dinner which he loves but it isn't helping with sleep. He's still feeding two to three hours round the clock! He was doing so well till he got sick, now we're back to square one.

    HI girls

Not sure if this will help or confuse you but in one of the multitude of sleeping books and articles I have read in a bid to avoid having another child with sleep issues I stumbled over a bit about the stage our bubs are all in or entering.

One school of thought is that around the 5-6 mth mark most babies start night wakings again and generally it is put down to hunger and starting solids is the answer but in many cases there is little improvement. This is because at this age their sleep cycles change from those of a newborn and into those of a child and continue to develop as they grow.

If they have been relying on feeding, rocking or some other type of settling aid that they don't control, eg a blanket comforter they control, their brains are developing to realise that they need that to go to sleep and everytime they come out of a sleep cycle they need that thing to put them to sleep. Each developmental stage or upheaval in their lives, unless they learn to self settle, this will rear its ugly head again... hence where we are with Jake and his sleeping issues (but that is an essay in itself).

Just thought it may help - I am no expert on sleep!

TMTM I hope wee Tom will settle his feeds down again for you maybe he has had a growth spurt and needs his meds readjusted?

Ray I know what it is like to have what everyone else calls a monster baby - Jake was 95-97th percentile for most of his life to date except for weight and that is just bcos he is such a tall boy. He is only 2.5 and the assumption is constantly made he is 3 or 4.

Rayray, big baby boy!! You're clearly doing really well!!! I was supposed to get Tom weighed and measured last week and I FORGOT. Mummy FAIL. Well, he was sick.

Nelly, I have certainly noticed around six months my kids have been horrible sleepers. Tom has just never really been good - he only got good for about a week, and then he got sick. I'm ringing the Queen Elizabeth Centre in the morning to talk to someone. I'm not depressed, the antidepressants have kept that at bay really well, but I'm honestly not sure how much more of this I can take, not with all the other kids to look after as well. If there's truly nothing I can do then I'll go with it, obviously. But I'm worried about my mental health long term. Sigh.

I think you are right about the growth spurt though. This morning he just *looked* bigger, his head looked bigger. When I pumped earlier while he was at daycare (he goes a half day a week) I got 7 ounces, which is much more than I'd normally get. And he's getting so strong - he loves to stand on his legs and gets quite grumpy if you don't help him up to them.

Here's something amazing - my little nephew is twelve weeks older than Tom. AND HE IS WALKING. 7 1/2 months. He never crawled, he just got up last week and walked to his Dad. I have never heard of a baby walking so early, EVER. Can't wait to see him at Tom's baptism on Sunday!!
