Leanne: so good to hear that the kid on the bike didnt get injured. i hope that he now will think a bit more when crossing the road...no doubt he was off in la la land lol.
Isadora: doh! that's tricky...a white dress would be so pretty for the photos...i guess the wedding dress could be a last resort lol! what about if you got some nice light coloured slacks (i'm thinking fitted ones like veronika maine style) with a nice tight long sleeved top? i know it is different to the dress idea, but at least it is breaking the mould on jeans and a white top IYKWIM...
Arte: woweee. that is alot of tantruming to deal with through the day. no wonder you are at your wits end (p.s. and i certainly DO NOT think any less of you because of what you feel and are going through, it's a frikkin hard hard job at the best of times, let alone when we are pushed to our upper limits. we are human beings and we thrive on love and support, and day in and day out of toddler tantrums wears anyone out and breaks our spirit ).
the pets are doing ok! the kat has been given the all clear, but will need to have his tail docked (happening in april as he needs to build strength) and it looks as though the impact gave him a hernia on his belly so that will also be removed.
the dawg is improving on the leg, but the vet said it will be months of gentle excersise (and weight loss...true lab proportions lol). BUT the other day she had (and sorry for TMI!) an absess explode in her bum...eeeewwwww!! so another coupla hundred dollars and elizabethan style collar around her head and a shaved butt with cortisone and ABs and she should be all good LOL!. gosh, what a week.
Sherie: what amazing marks!! that is so awesome!
AFM: all good here. Leila and i had a beautiful morning playing 'going on a bear hunt' under the doona covers (it was the narrow gloomy cave lol). so much fun, especially when DH took on the role of the 'bear'...never heard leila laugh so hard...she had tears lol.
also....how early did you guys feel bubs move when pregnant??? i ask because last night i was lying down falling asleep when i felt as though someone was lightly tapping my belly from the inside...and it felt strangely familiar...so i wriggled and checked that it was just digestion (...or gas lol) and no...it came back every now and then...surely this is waaaay too early though???? it's gotta be gas right lol?!
Arte - sounds like big hugs needed. Don't worry about complaining to us, that is what we are here for! Sounds like something that you should probably put your mind at rest about as it is obviously affecting you. Did you go to the doctor????
Isa - wow, big decision to make there about moving degrees. I suppose you need to think about what attracted you to the teaching in the first place and what it is about social work that appeals to you.
Trill - awesome marks girl!!
Cass - checked that site out, you're right - no secrets there! One of the benefits to me of a fairly common name!
Leanne - big hugs to you with the accident, so glad that everything is OK.
MP - good luck with going back to work next week. J might settle in better once N starts there do you think?
AFM - all good here. DD spent the night at Nan's last night so DH and I got takeaway and blobbed on the couch. I was at the tailend of a 36 hour headache and DH thinks he has oral thrush so a fairly quiet night for us!
My sister, niece and mum are coming down to visit next week which will be good. She has only been down once since K was born! K is already looking forward to it.
Ginger - how's the stunt man going - has the bump gone down? My first thought was - quick, postpone the photos!! Though truth be told, there are few few photos of DD1 without bruises etc on her face cos she was such a clumsy clot, if I'd not taken photos when she had bruises there wouldn't be any photos at all LOL.
Arte - of course no one thinks less of you . I'm amazed at how well you are going, I know you're pretty isolated where you are and I've never been able to cope without some kind of child care help so don't be down on yourself. I do remember though the time between 2.5 and 3.25 being particularly horrendous with DD1, although there were some language delay issues there too which probably compounded the frustration. Then one day I looked around at how well things were going and realised she hadn't had a tanty in several days and then suddenly things got easier. I went through a very brief experimental smacking phase - but it didn't work and it just made me even more stressed. In the end I resorted to time outs - ala naughty mat - and lots of them . I know it's very non-attachment parenting but I for one needed to be able to drag my tantrumming child out of the room and leave her there while I took some deep breaths and got hold of myself. I would give her 2 warnings (involving counting to 5 if she was not complying with something I asked) then time out. Also, instant time out for any blatantly unacceptable behaviour (hitting, spitting, shouting at a parent, throwing food, etc). Gosh when I write it all down it sounds like she was a rotter, but she wasn't she was lovely but strong willed when she wanted to be too. In fact I'm often amazed (even last week which was a hard one here) at how different Missy E is, she has spent a fraction of the time in the naughty mat space that DD1 did...ANYWAY I don't know if any of that helps, but HANG IN THERE. By all means do some reading on the issues Trill mentioned, but also think about what strategies you can have in place so that you're coping better. It might be leaving W with DH so you can get out by yourself of a weekend, even for a few hours, whatever.
Clare, in my rational mind I think yeah it's too early but my friend who was pregnant with her 3rd when I was pregnant with DD1 reckons she felt her baby from around 12 weeks onwards. I never believed her but when I felt DD2 I realised I'd actually been having sensations before then, they were just so slight I'd not paid attention. Aaaaaah sooo jeally I wanna be pregnant again!!!!! Good to hear poochy and puss are recovering - did it turn out as expensive as you feared?
IsaD - I'm sure you would make an excellent social worker - just be prepared to be confronted by life in all its teeming messiness out there. My advice is get in contact with the course coordinator, have a chat to them, and also find & talk to some SWs who are practising out there, find out what a day in the life of is like.
Trill, no middle school here, but the school we've picked (and hopefully can afford) has a more structured program in yrs 8 & 9 than high schools normally do, goodness knows this child needs it. Plus the teacher has sat her next to the tidiest & most organised girl in the class so hoping like mad some of this will rub off!! BTW the 80% pass mark might seem a bit daunting but I'm sure you will do really well.
MP - good to hear you are settling and looking forward to your return to work! Nice to have someone fighting over you like that!
Leanne I'm so relieved to hear the (stupid) young fella was ok - hopefully it will teach him to be more careful. Big scare for you though. I remember nearly running into a bicycle one time - it was night and they didn't have lights or even reflectors (except the back wheel) and rode across a laneway thing I was coming out of. Slammed on my brakes just in time, very scary though.
Ginger, how is L's head now? Is it J's birthday tomorrow?
Trill, thanks for that. I didn't take it the wrong way. He does about half of the things on the tactile dysfunction list and a few of the Aspergers ones too, but my mummy instinct says that isn't him iykwim. He is quite highly strung and is stubborn as all hell but I don't think it is out of the realm of normal toddlerhood for now. We actually had a good day today and I noticed that his last molar has now come through. We had a really rough patch in Nov/Dec when his other molars were coming too so I am hoping that we are over the worst of it now. He can be such a nice boy when sometimes and it is so hard when he turns into a tantrum monster.
MD, we send W to his room but he won't stay in there, I doubt that a time out spot would be very successful, especially since I have A to look after it so can't police it properly. DH is really good and takes the main share of dealing with him when he gets home from work and they go outside to do jobs over the weekend so I do get a bit of time W free.
Clare, I am sure that I felt A moving from about 12-13 weeks. I am another jealous one. I love having them wriggling around in my tummy. Glad the pets are on the mend.
Sorry for all my complaining lately. After having a good day today I am feeling much more refreshed. I did go to the Dr and they took some bloods (three failed arm needles and then the Dr came in to take it from my hand!) but they didn't show anything wrong. I guess it is just a combo of breastfeeding and not much sleep.
Arte I was really worried about how you would take it all. If at this point in time you think that it's OK and its within your comfort zone of 'normal' then that's fine And don't apologise for talking to us about it. You don't have alot of other avenues to talk about it with such honesty and it does you good to at least get it out of your head I'm really glad that you kept that appointment and had the tests done. At least you can rule a lot of things out.
Clare, I felt DD1 moving really early, just after 13 wks. and with Alister it was only 11wks. I think with the second one you are more in tune with what you are feeling so you know what it is kwim?
Trill- (aka- grey-haired-short-sighted-oldbag ) nice work on the uni quizzes, go straight to the top of the class.
IssyD- I am sorry things are tough for you this time round. Did you find a dress? Can;t believe our wonder shopper, Ginge, hasn;t been leading you astray!
MD- what a year. i hope tomorrow is a positive one.
I am after some wise words of wisdom from you ladies....
Lu woke at 3 am saying she had a sore vagina and wanted her nappy changed. She cried, rubbed it, asked me to put more cream on it and take her to the drs until 6am this morning. She was fine all day and then it started again after her bath. There is no redness, discharge or anything untoward. She had a temp of 38.4 tonight. Any ideas? Should i put cream on it or not? She was complaining last week of a saw vagina so i took her to the drs and he gave me a urine analysis request. It took me a week to catch some wee, so only put it in yesterday. Will have the results tomorrow, but dr didn't seem convinced it was a UTI.
I gave her panadol and put her to bed, and she seems better. Just hoping we don't have a repeat of last night.
I saw the lovely Ginger today. She really is a champ, and those boys are just two cute. L and L had a little kiss goodbye, it was adorable!
LOL Ange, I mean the post on here in General health, fitness and wellbeing
It could be a UTI, they get a temp with those don't they? I know Christy's Matilda had one for nearly a week before it was confirmed. Poor thing, I can imagine how sore and uncomfortable it would be for her
JM - sounds like it could be a UTA i guess - though strange it is only at night? when will you get the tests back - poor little thing.
Ginge - happy bday to J - if it is today? wow that has gone SO FAST! are you having a party fo rhim and what gifts did you end up getting?
Isadora - we are sending him to a jewish school - yep v v expensive!!!! but it is a fabulous school so i am thrilled to get him in. the ELC at this school (up to grade 1 from 3yo kinder) is all based around emmilia reggio approach which i love and is all housed togather (so when J started N will still be there for 2 yrs)... i am really thrilled to get him in. have you got M on a waitlist? hope you found a dress- when is the photoshoot?
Arte - glad you had a better day, sometimes it takes that to put things in context... but at the same time get him checked if you need to... i am glad it all worked out with the dr and you dont have anything to worry about. i also feel quite run down (who knows how i will be after i stary back at work next week!).
i think sherie is a wonderful friend to raise her concerns/impressions with you - i hope you would all be that honest with me too.
clare - i def felt J earlier. not that early but other friends have.. and you dont have a lot of padding lol so maybe you would feel it early.
JM: to me it does sound like a UTI. and she is probably only able to really focus on it at night, cause there are no distractions...at this age they are doing alot of exploring as well so maybe she has given herself a bit of an infection...according to the word that is robin barker it can become quite common from this age onwards....hmmmm? leila also complained a couple of weeks back of having a sore vagina...then i saw her exploring when she had no nappy on and man, she was rough! so it was no suprise that it was 'sore' lol. hers passed within a day or two though and didnt look red and no temp...
MP: oh wow! what an ideal set up for your two boys! i have a feeling they will thrive on it. i guess though that it is just going to take time to settle into a new system after the closeness and familiarity of the one in canberra. it's alot to take in after such a big move...
Isadora...yeah! did ya find a dress???
Ginger: it cannot be?! is little J hitting the BIG 1?
Sherie: yeah i think that is what it is. i am able to know what it actually feels like ITMS. the first time i had no idea (obviously) so probably missed a few things...but also i probably also had those long lost things called stomach muscles lol! so not here this time lol!
Arte: well i guess in a way it is good that the tests came back with nothing to show. must be a bit frustrating though! are you taking any multi-vitamins? they might help...
MD: the pooch and the kat are not as expensive as we thought...that said when all is said and done we will have parted with a smidgin over $2k. luckily DHs dad has offered to proffer some lucra 'just because'...it will be a saver that's for sure!
Cally: mmmm takeaway...what did you get?! i have a craving for chicken tikka ATM...so DH is on a hunting mission manly style to get me some for dinner lol.
AFM: we are AOK. had a strange night in that we all crashed out at 8.30 after dragging ourselves home from a dinner at a friends place. then from about 2am onwards both DH and DD kept waking up and grumbling...yes, the both of them lol! leila kept asking for milk in her sleep and asking if she could go to kindy...so despite going to bed so early, i have had very little sleep and am feeling totally smashed.
we are also planning on going to Kangaroo Island in April for our annual family holiday!!! so MD...keep the dates free (not that we have any!!) cause we will be heading your way and spending a couple of nights in Rad-elaide....got any ideas on where to stay in the ol' town? we cant go to ritzy as we will be spending *some* money on a quaint cottage on KI....
Cass - ooh, KI sounds nice! We had Thai, with enough for leftovers (which DH then left on the bench all day yesterday - at least I enjoyed my leftovers!)
JM - hope you get those test results back. Could she have gone a bit overboard on washing herself with soap down there too? That could have made it a bit sore.
Ging - J's b'day???? No way!!
Arte - glad you went to the dr's. Hope the teeth breakthrough makes an improvement in W's behaviour.
Trill - will have to search out your post, you old thing - NOT!
Well DH and I spent the night together, in our bed, with K in her own bed for the first time in yonks! She woke unhappy and freaked out that DH wasn't in the spare bed so it may not work out so well tonight, but we are certainly moving forward (SLOWLY....)
Cass - Oooh KI sounds nice (never bin there meself) and even better cos it necessitates a RADelaide stopever (*claps hands in excitement*)!! Not really sure about accom (we've always stayed with family) but there's a couple of cheap family sized cottages right in Adelaide proper - (google Harriet's cottage - same ppl used to have another place too) otherwise we always go the caravan park cabin (Big 4s are usually ok & there's a very popular one next to the beach). Otherwise there are bazillions of serviced apartment type places.
Ginger, are you having a party for the little J- Man tomorrow?? Gosh I can't believe it'll have been a year!!! Hope it's a gorgeous day for a gorgeous mumma with gorgeous boys!!
Arte - glad the bloods all came back ok. You've probably just wearing the effects of chronic sleep deprivation. Hang in there sweetie it doesn't last forever. The molar really makes sense - hoping that's what it is and he's back to his normal less-demanding self soon! Good to hear you're getting a big of a break on the weekends - tho sometimes they don't roll around soon enough!
JM - I'm with the UTI theory too - though the other explanations all seem possible too. You will know once you get those path results. I keep a spare speccie jar in the cupboard with a pediatric collection thingy so I can have fresh wee on hand whenever I suspect it. A plastic cup is helpful for catching it once they're using the toilet.
Cally - well done on the night in your own beds thing! Missy E seems to be regressing and we've had lots of after-midnight wakeups (ugh!) which only mummy can fix (even tho daddy wakes up better) - but we've been telling her if she lies quietly with her eyes shut I will come back in after 5 mins for another cuddle - rewarding her for doing the right thing and she seems to settle down happily, and I pop in once or twice and then leave her to snooze off.
MP - the preschool sounds lovely, so nice to have them at the same place (my girls will never be the right age to go to school together ).
Trill - the good thing about getting old is it (seems to) give you the right to act disgracefully! LOL
MP - I feel like a fool asking if you were sending the boys to a Catholic school when I know you are Jewish!!!! The school sounds so nice anyway, are they on the wait list or have their places been confirmed? Actually I am only now looking into schools and organising enrolement but hopefully it will be one of the Catholic ones in our area.
JG - I hope it isnt a UTI. Let us know what the result comes back as. Also M was complaining a few weeks ago about the same thing but like Clare, I noticed M having a good feel around down there so no wonder lol.
Cally - GL with K in her own bed tonight.
Ginger - How exciting a first birthday!!! Yay let us know your plans.
Just a short one to say hi and no I havent found a dress, or anything for that matter ahhh!
hi girls, sorry i've been such a slacker lately with personals. i just can't seem to get on here as much, and sometimes when i do i just feel like reading and zoning out a bit iykwim??
anyways....yes it is jimmy's birthday tomorrow! so excited for the big man!
we are having a family bbq on sunday, not too sure what we're going to do tomorrow. prob just spend some time together the four of us. we got him a boat sandpit for his present. has a big sail and steering wheel and is full of sand and toys. he also got an electric guitar which is sooooo appropriate cos he's such a rock star.
bbl to catch up more, miss you all
Ahhh see G, that's why he has the hair he does so he can have those long flowing locks when he's rocking it out on stage LOL. I can't believe he is 1 already!!!!!!
i know trill! i can't believe i have 2 toddlers, they're so great together- such good friends. he's such a rock star these days, i can't get him out of bed in the mornings!
it's such an exciting time, i'm really loving it so much at the moment. all the hard work has been worth it.
UTI confirmed. Started AB's, now have to fit in an ultrasound and more urine after the AB's before we go to PNG?! Nothing like a challenge. Thanks for all the ideas and advice. Lucky mum is a sonographer and call pull strings!
