MD - the bridge collapse thing is one of the reasons I like the look of the Ikea set, it appears to have a very stable bridge. I swear one morning last week I was called away from getting dressed 5 times 'mummy, quick, bridge fall over, Thomas coming now!!'. And me getting dressed doesn't involve a lot as I don't wear makeup and the hair gets a single brush through it!! Hope you get some sun soon!
Cass - oh, scary, toddler escaping!
Ginger - K has been in her bed for a year now. We are lucky to get one night a week when she doesn't wander into our room. Generally she goes back with a quick cuddle though. The last couple of nights she has slept with one of us in the spare room as she is a bit sick, but when she's better she will be back in her room, although the midnight wanderings will likely continue!
-
W has started calling me by my name! It sounds so weird to hear "Jodie, can you come here" or "Jodie, watch me do this" or my personal favourite "Jooooooodie!". I thought I would be mum for a while longer.
MP, how old was N before he started crawling? I think A is going for some kind of record! She is still not mobile - she has been able to walk across a room unassisted for about two months now but she won't do it as a means of transport, she prefers to still hold a finger.
-
hi girls!
sorry have been MIA...sleep deprivation is catching up with the babymoon lol! wow, new babies really know how to cry lol! (understatement 101).
Arte: we have the same thing here with the names. Leila keeps saying: 'my mum is called clare'. my papa is called: 'renzo. she has tried to call me clare a few times, but i find it too weird to respond too ATM lol!
G: how is the Big Bed going? leila never looked back thankfully. we have one of those Ikea mozzie net thingys and we used that to bribe her...we call it the 'cave' (she is into the 'we're going on a bear hunt' story).
hey, we are heading up your way tomorrow...thinking ol' sass for a lunch...if you are around we should catch up! i'll check on BB tomorrow before we leave and see if you're up for it! (thinking we'll get there about 11ish...).
Cally: your dress routine sounds like mine  although when i want to glam up i rip out the lip gloss lol!
AFM: well the last 2 days have been *tough*. not sure why, but i guess it is lack of decent sleep catching up on me and DH. poor Leila has been copping alot of it too which totally sucks. i feel as though if i am not putting her in front of the TV or half-heartedley drawing chalk on the pavement i am snapping at her. i have MEGA mama guilt flowing my way. hopefully the sunshine will ply me with enough vitamin D to get me back on track...and i have to be more vigilant about sleeping when both the girls are...but i am bad at doing this...
-
clare- are you having lunch at Ripe??
i'm heading to Sky High at 10am cos they have a jumping castle there tomorrow and then we are heading over to one of dh's friend's places for a grand final lunch so unfortunately we won't be around :( dam it! any other sat except grand final day and we would've been fine. next time?
ps- you are not bad at it, it is just mega hard and a huge adjustment going from 1 to 2. i promise you, it will get better and a lot easier. i promise.
and if you ever feel like some company i would be more than willing to come over sometime during the week and just hang out and let Leila play with L & J. or maybe we could find a park/playground at a half way spot and i could run around after L, L & J while you sit on a picnic rug with M :)
eta- you are more than welcome to come to the jumping castle at 10 if you like?? i am meeting a couple of girlfriends with young kids there :)
-
Clare, forget about any guilt! L has had your undivided attention for 3 years now - M will never have that. Sure it is an adjustment for her, but she will adapt. The benefits of a sibling will outweigh a bit of down-time now. And as Ginger said, it does get better and easier. Can you get your DH to take L somewhere for a few hours over the weekend so you can have a bit of a rest? Even if you don't have a nap it makes a difference just to have the baby without having to entertain the older one.
The rain continues! This is just madness! So far in September there has only been one fine day and one fine afternoon. We have watched A LOT of telly!
-
Double.
MD, hope you got a bit of sunshine on your holiday!
-
Gosh I feel slack for not posting in here.
Cass, it does get easier  you've got the situation too where you have a larger gap then what most of us have had between 1 and 2 so I would expect that it would be tough for a little while with the dynamics being worked out still  I'm sure things will turn a corner soon.
Arte, I have been going mental with the weather we'd been having, but I think I would go completely crazy if it had been raining that long!
Not much happening here really. Things are pretty good. School holidays started today so I'm looking forward to a few sleep ins. I am going to Canberra for the day on my own though to do floriade which will be good. DH said I should stay the night, but not sure if I will yet.
-
G: hmmm not sure if we can make 10am...we have to be in blackburn at 9am to pick up the wheely board i bought on ebay, then we head on up. but if there is a jumping castle we might scoot by and see if it's still going...Leila is a fan lol!
we should totally do a catch up! I vaguely remember Hawthorn being a good halfway point...mebbe we could find a nice park that way? and get MP on board too!
thanks guys for the reassurance  had a cry to mum this evening and feel alot better. also had a nice afternoon playing with Leila at the park while Marta slept. really needed that reconnection time. it's funny as it would seem that Leila has been adjusting quite well to the big changes, whereas i have been left shell-shocked. maybe i prepared her well enough and not myself lol.
arte: ohhh that much rain does make you go barmy! i cannot believe it. and i thought it was bad that we hadnt had a day above 20 in 174 days lol.
-
Cally I cracked right up over your comment on bridge stability. Spoken like a true eng LOL.
Cass, I felt really torn for a while after Missy E was born, even though DD1 was so much older. I found it really difficult to split my attention from one to two. The all-consuming-ness of the early baby days will soon pass and your little family will find a new equilibrium. A daytrip out tomorrow sounds like just the thing that's needed!
Jooooooodie!!! PMSL - Missy E did this for a long time last year. She knew the difference, ie she calls us Mummy and Daddy, but our names are MD and R, but she would use it for effect. Like if we weren't paying attention or didn't respond fast enough, eg Mum mum mummy mum mum....MARYDEAN!!! I'm pretty sure if you explain the difference your Mummy days will last a bit longer. Sorry you've still not had any sunshine.
G, re staying in bed - Missy E stays in bed and just shouts if she wakes up at night. Not sure which is better. She lies in bed until we open her door in the morning too. I think it's a by-product of keeping her in the cot for so long, it's as if she just doesn't realise she can get out by herself LOL.
Trill I hope you enjoy Floriade and no doubt you'll take the shops out for a spin while you're there ;).
Well the weather here continues to be ****, although we didn't get rained on at Australia Zoo yesterday. Today was our last full day, I can't wait to get home as it seems we left Missy E there and took her Evil Twin Deidre on holidays instead. I have been tearing my hair out with the constant whinging, shrieking when she doesn't get her way, tantrums, refusal to eat meals then whining all day long about how hungry she is, hissy fits over her shoes, mucking about at bedtime etc etc etc. It has been soooo bad, just about everywhere we have been she has been The Screaming Kid that everyone just wishes would shut up (me included). She has *not* endeared herself to any family members, that's for sure. I bet she's nice as pie again the second we get home. Someone slap me next time I suggest a family holiday, seems like boring weekends doing nothing at all at home are infinitely better. And the pills are a much more reliable source of Vit D!!!
-
Cass- Don't be so hard on yourself love. I think Lu spent a good 23 months in front of the TV when i had Sas.
MD- Oh yeah, why is it the idea of a holiday is generally so much better than the holiday with a screaming child? With any luck she will transform when you get home, i wish i had a holiday as an excuse for Lu, but i don't and she has been a bit of a nightmare of late.
Arte- Lu has been calling us by our names for a while now. It kind of sounds weird, but i don't mind. I do say, 'i like it when you call me other name, mum' to discourage her a little. She doesn't do it all the time, just sometimes.
Trill- Sorry i missed the little man's birthday, hope he had a lovely day. DEFINITELY stay the night. Go out to dinner, have a night out, you deserve it.
Hi Ging- I wanna come jump on the castle. *stamps feet* Is the new bed doing its job?
Hi Cally. :)
Well not a lot to report here. HAving a little afternoon tea for Lu tomorrow. I was wondering if i should just pretend it's her birthday so we don't have 2 celebrations?! Is that mean?
-
JM, if you can get away with it then do it!! She will have no idea, as long as she feels special for a day then the actual date doesn't matter in my books.
MD, that is my worst nightmare and the reason we don't go on holiday - my kids barely sleep at home, they would be an absolute nightmare away and then the days would be filled with over tired tantrums. However, I still day dream of trips away, maybe one day we will be brave enough.
Trill, STAY FOR THE NIGHT!!!! Do it.
Clare, glad you got a bit of reconnect time. Poor W hasn't had much time with just me since A was born because she is a serial cat napper so we don't have a decent amount of time when she is asleep. I am thinking of leaving A with DH one day and taking W to the city for a bit of us time.
-
cass- do you come along eastlink to get here? i'm going to try to work out in the melways where a half way point would be. i was thinking maybe there might be a park around doncaster way or something?
jm- the bed is working on a part-time basis :)
all you guys with #2s, i can tell you all (and i know jm will agree with me) that it becomes mountainloads easier once the little one is walking. J & L play together for hours now, they keep each other entertained and will even sit and watch a movie together.
-
MD, that sounds pretty much like most of our early family holidays. I remember one holiday to Forster and E was only 5.5 months old and screamed from Bathurst to Forster and we even stopped over in Sydney the night LOL. Then I'm sure the rest of the holiday place wanted us out because of her constant screaming. But there was nothing I could do to stop it. It only really got better on our last trip away because the kids were older and Alister had gone past that stage. So I feel your frustration
JM, Thanks for the Birthday wishes for A  He had a great day. I reckon you could do that for Lu. They know it's their birthday, but still not really gelled with the idea of parties and all that stuff. So are you all well again?
Yes, I was definitely going to go shopping after I went to Floriade LOL. I was thinking that just a day trip would be cheaper than staying the night because it wouldn't mean extra for dinner and a motel and we can't really afford it, but if DH suggested it then hes fine with me spending the money kwim? I have been thinking about it since though. I would have to leave here at 5.30 to get there early to get a parking spot LOL, and I think I would be more than fine to drive home because I have done it before, but I don't want to get to Yass and think Far out I'm tired! So I might go down Thursday arvo, do some late night shopping maybe and then Floriade before coming home friday afternoon.
-
Cant write much - will try to pop onlater.. all good, just busy!
BUT - Cas and Ging - I am soooo in for a catch up... but I can only do mondays or weekends...
Hawthorn is great for me, or I am happy to have you over to my place (Glen Iris) - thinking i prob live in b/n you both?
OR - I am having a day pff in 2 weeks to take N to a justine clarke concert so that afternoon could be great...
-
I'm happy for a G and MP playdate!! we can do Glen Iris. Mondays arent great as Leila has kindy, but a weekend could be fun?!
G: yeah we go along the eastlink. so mebbe for future playdates we could do a donnie day lol!
i look forward to the time when Marta is a wee bit older so that she can at least sit or lie around and play with a couple of toys...i reckon it will be heaps easier then. i can totally see how cool it will be when Marta is walking...i LOVE those photos of the boys you have on FB that you put up ages ago where they were on the tramp on the deck. LOVE it! but desperately trying not to wish away the newborn thing either lol! aahhh the catch 22 lol! but i have to sheepishly admit that i can admire newborns for the preciousness but i am definitely a toddler kinda parent lol. DH reckons i should just cook em for longer in the womb lol
Sherie: oohhh that trip does sound like it could be fun! i LOVE the target at the canberra centre (i know, sounds strange but they have the best kids clothes range..well for girls anyway, seeing as though that's my forte lol).
Arte: i reckon the trip to the city sounds fun! today i went out with Leila on our own just to the neighbours. left DH with strict orders to bring marta over when she woke up for a boob. worked really well and gave Leila a chance to have me without me keeping one ear out all the time ITMS. was a good recharge time for both of us.
MD: ahhhh Missy E is sounding like Leila atm. Three-nager through and through lol. Leila's fav statement when i ask her to stop doing something as it is dangerous/rude/annoying etc is: 'i dont care' :o i cannot believe it. she is also starting to totally call our bluff when i get stroppy and laugh at me lol! arrghhhh i feel like ripping my hair out! today we had a 'i dont care' moment followed quickly by her throwing herself on the pavement in her pyjamas (late night walk) and rolling all in the dirt (this is after i told her that the ground was dirty and she shouldnt pick up cigarette butts). oh the joy.
AFM: today was a much better day! thank goodness. i was really down yesterday and worn out. I think the main problem was that both DH and I were worn out and that makes it tricky IYKWIM. today started out in spectacular fashion though with Leila cracking it after we picked up the bugaboo wheely board that we bought on Ebay (awesome BTW!!! works a treat!). she didnt get the concept that these people werent our friends...we said they are nice people but we dont know them, so no we couldnt stay and play lol! MASSIVE tantrum! it lasted the WHOLE way back home from blackburn (so a good 40 minutes). and it was mammoth with hyperventilation-style sobs. DH had to pull over at one point cause it was sooo distracting/distressing. had to calm her down and then calmly explain why we had to leave...but that took quite awhile. poor wee poppet. luckily our neighbours dropped by soon after we got home (we ditched the idea of mt dandenong and Leila was too frazzled i think for new environs ITMS) and invited us to CERES (a community garden type place with treehouses and the like for kids to play on). when i got there i realised that the homebirth group was meeting there too. but i was too shy to introduce myself. might do that next week (they meet every sat at 10am for coffee and cake). but then again, i dont really see myself as a 'homebirther', just someone that had a baby at home ITMS lol...sooo maybe not. we'll see...
(oh and as for the big post...yes, i have TWO sleeping children...all before 9pm lol). miracles DO happen.
-
JM - when we were little we had to travel over my sister's 3rd birthday. Mum just pretended it was her birthday the week before and didn't mention anything about it on the day (Mum actually forgot until about 10:00 on the actual day).
MD - oh yes, the engineer in me just can't help getting out. We are having major attitude at the moment too. The main thing is 'Nothing' as a response to any question.
Cass - I so love the Target girls clothes. I was in out little Target Country today and saw things I could buy but had to restrain myself - she already has so many things for summer!
Trill - hope you have fun at Floriade. If DH suggested it, then I'd definitely be spending the night and hitting the shops!
Well DH and K are on two weeks holidays. The whole house feels relaxed and we all enjoyed an afternoon watching footy while Thomas and James went round and round on the train set - got a wedding next Saturday though so won't get to watch the replay!
-
quicky from me as i'm about to go to bed!
cass- yes i am a toddler parent too. i would almost be tempted to have #3 if i could push out a 1 year old.
am happy to meet you anywhere along eastlink route- i even have an etag!!!! woooo hooo big deal for a hillbilly like me :) i got a couple of fines from driving along eastlink to franga last summer to visit jm so dh got me my very own etag LOL
or am more than happy to go to glen iris to mp's place (have no real clue where that is, is it near malvern??) i will find it!!!!
-
Happy birthday to Asha and Tia for today - hope it was a gorgeous day for both gorgeous girls!
JM, Lu's cake was amazing!! Well done. Yeah definitely just do the one birthday if you can. We did that a few times when DD1 was much younger.
Ginger, don't use the etag word around me. I think I might've accidentally scored some toll fines after DH set off on the motorway in the wrong direction in the middle of the night when we arrived in Bris...but we weren't up on the whole invisible toll-point thing then and apparently you only have 3 days to pay before it turns into a fine. Ho hum. Or maybe not...Someone handed in DH's wallet after he lost it today so I'm totally open to the possibility that the toll gods might also shine their benevolence upon me. hehe.
Cally, "Nothing" would drive me INSANE. We're getting a lot of "But I can't...." (imagine high pitched waily voice and weak falling about).
Cass, "I don't care" would also drive me INSANE. Funny how they learn things like that (am guessing it came from another kidlet in your lives). We're getting a lot of "That's not fair....!" courtesy of older sister. Hey I also just wanted to say - give yourself a break...let some stuff slide, it's only temporary
Speaking of older sisters, there was High Drama at our house tonight, DD1 managed to get a round hairbrush completely tangled in her hair & got completely hysterical and threatened to cut it out with scissors. Poor darling was really upset, but it was really kinda funny. I had the good grace not to laugh.
