Don't get a boy cat, they tend to spray even after they've been neutered. Also I would get a girl because I'm a big fan of tortoiseshells and 90% of them are female First of all think about whether you want a long or short hair. Long hair = very cute but blerk lots of extra hair on the furniture + extra work brushing & cleaning poo off their bums if they get sick. Spend a bit of time choosing...Basically you want to get the kittycat that's got a bit of personality, but not the first one that comes to you (they're probably too dominant) but not one that ignores you either. One that's friendly without being aggressive. If you kind of squint your eyes closed, cats will sort of squint back - it's friendly body language and will attract a friendly response. That's the sum total of my pussy-choosing-advice.
