I also had/have an anal fissure, I had very bad constipation during pg, and was on 4 coloxyl plus lactulose every day towards the end, but I'm pretty sure the fissure was there then, along with the haemorrhoids. Afterwards, I got down to 2 coloxyl, but my stools were painful to pass even though I went every day and they were really soft. My GP wanted me to get off the coloxyl, and use movicol for a while instead. I started with 3 sachets of movicol, and have been able to stop the coloxyl and go to 2 sachets only. But again, I'm finding that my bottom is really sore for hours and hours after a bowel motion, and although I haven't bled for a while, the pain isn't improving much.
My GP said to me that if I'm still struggling with it, she'll refer me to a surgeon. I don't understand how cutting out a fissure can improve things - surely that's just a bigger cut??
