THE dreaded period returns...but is this normal?

just wondering if its normal for my first period after birth to be sooooo heavy ??
Its only been 5 weeks since I gave birth , I stopped bleeding about 3 weeks pospartum and 2 days ago AF returned. Its so heavy though I have to change my pad every 3 hours ,there's a few small ( like half a 5cent piece ) blood clots aswell...
is this normal ?

Hi Enigma, This thread is exactly what I have been looking for. I gave birth 4 months ago and stopped bleeding at about 7 weeks. I have just had my first AF since then and it was EXTREMELY heavy just as you have described, changing a pad every 2 - 3 hours for the first couple of days and passing clots as well.

I do not recall getting AF so heavily after no 1. The few people I have asked about it say that it is normal. Not nice though!

Enigma - Mine is exactly the same. I stopped bleeding same time, AF returned same time and is the same. This makes me think it must be "normal"
