    Getting AF back...Genetic Link?

I'm sure I read/heard somewhere not long ago that how long it takes to get AF back after having a baby can run in families, i.e. if your mum got hers back early/late you are likely to be the same.

I still haven't got AF back and have been thinking about when it's going to come and if it will be back when we want to TTC again! So I asked my mum when she got hers back and she said not until she had completely stopped breastfeeding So even though at the end they were only on 1 feed a day for ages, still no AF!! Damn!! So I hope it's not genetic now!

Anyone else heard the same thing? Has it been similar for you and your mum?

I dont know hon...my mum fell prg pretty easy, she had 4 kids 6yrs and under....which is what i have.... Mum fell pg 6 weeks after having me.......me and my sis are 10 months apart. i conceived #3 without getting AF prior....maybe fertility does run in families. Dunno if any studies have been done. Although i know friends whom have probs conceiving/AF...yet their mums had no troubles....and vice versa.....

I have heard this too but can't remember where? From what I can gather, me and my Mother got our AF back at similar times post birth. I got my first AF when DD was around 6 months. Me and my brother are 15months apart... As you know I was still breastfeeding at the time, I'm not sure whether or not my Mother was as I know I was weaned around the 6 month mark.

My mum must have gotten AF back around 11mths after my sis was born, she had wanted to start TTC long before that as wanted a short gap between kids - she went to the Dr to find out if anything was wrong as no AF, unbeknownst to her she was pg with me at the time, LOL - just four weeks or thereabouts.

We always joke that I've got a thumb print on my forehead from the internal she had sorry if TMI...

Anyway 20mths between me and sis...

My sis was almost exactly the same as that, 20mths between my niece and nephew and she was getting way grumpy that she couldn't TTC as no AF...

But me, I got AF back after 6mths! DH and I held off for a bit. Five minutes anyway

So possibly genetic link? But for me not so much.

PS - glad to hear you still posting about thinking about TTC...

Thanks guys! I'm going to attempt night weaning soon anyway so that might help things along!

Thanks OP, you guys have put my mind at ease a little, still scary but I guess it's a common worry and we all cope!

I think night weaning is the key - with DD1 I got AF back after 9m when she stopped feeding at night and with DD2 it was almost 12m, again when she stopped feeding at night.
