Angry How long is my hair going to fall out for?

OK, so now I'm really starting to get annoyed. At about the 3month mark after DS was born my hair started REALLY falling out. I'm shedding all over the house. Its gross and depressing..... DS always has one of my hairs on him somewhere. Anyway its slowed down a little but its still WAY more than I would have normally shed pre-pg. I've always had heaps of hair so I don't look like I'm balding or anything - even if I feel like I am.

Just wondering how long I could expect this wonderful phenomenon to last?

    Hi,
I was losing my hair for about 5mths after DD was born and throughout the pregnancy. It's awful isn't it finding hair all over the house. I would have to go outside to brush my hair. Hopefully it won't be too much longer for you.

    Regards,
    Dianne

It's so annoying isn't it?! I think mine slowed down when DS2 was around 6 months of age. I got so sick of hair all over the floor after drying my hair and finding hair on EVERYTHING!

Still going here. I went to the GP to ask if it was a problem and he said that as I am still BF it can still put your hormones outa whack. I have to sweep/vacumme every other day. DH calls me the Yeti (lol)

Glad to hear I'm not alone!..... But its such a pain we have to go through this. I think mine has slowed a little in the last week but its still pretty bad. Hopefully the 6 month mark will bring some relief. I've had my hair in a ponytail ever since this started but the other day I wanted to wear my hair out so I washed it and pulled out as much as I could and then brushed it furiously so I could have it out for a few hours without too much fear of leaving hair all over everyone.

I hope mine isn't related to BF and is purely post-pg.

Je$$_84 - I'd be interested to hear what your GP has to say.

Red face Is there anything you can take?

In relation to the hair loss does anyone know of anything you can take to help slow it down or stop it? Herbal or pharmacutical? Is it because of the BF or just hormones? It's really starting to annoy me and my hubby!!

I lost heaps (although I've got lots of hair, thankfully) but mine finally stopped falling out about 4 weeks ago when DS was around 6 months old (and I'm still BFing my DS). It sux that it happens, but it does stop ... promise!

i had VERY healthy hair throughout pregnancy. shining and lush.

Four months AFTER i had my baby, then i started noticing what looked like large amounts coming out in the shower floor - i found that so depressing. i know it's silly, but it made me think about what people undergoing chemo go thru - the psychological impact of losing your "crowning glory".

i didn't know to expect it, so just thought something was wrong with me.

apparently it's a very normal physiological thing for a woman to go thru, after having a baby.

it went on for a few months.

went the regrowth came, it was noticeable to me, that i must have lost the majority of my hair from the fringe/forehead area and the nape of the neck.

we're at the two year mark now, still breastfeeding, so i really don't think the BF had anything to do with it, cos i'm not losing hair now.

i have two different lengths of hair! my actual length. and then two inches up, my hair is alot thicker, that's how long th eregrowth is.

No-one mentioned this hair loss in the pre-natal classes ! woudl have been nice to have been warned - don't think it would have been so upsetting then.
