Hi every one i was wondering whether anyone else has experienced joint pain after having their babies it is getting to the point of me not being able to hold Ryan for very long as my hands and fingers and elbows ache and get very weak burping him is torture and also my back feels like it is collasping i though all the aches and pains of this pregancy where gone but i guess not and ideas or thoughts thanks for reading
Hi Shazz,
I must say, with these guys, I have been very achy postnatally.
Sometimes when I am burping them, I get aches in my wrist and then pins and needles. My arms hurt if I hold Noah too long and my back hurts too. I also have found that the sciatic pain comes and goes too.
I was thinking that it had alot to do with my age, considering, I was 10 years younger with the first set and 8 years with Lily. Either, I've forgotten, or my body is protesting!?!?!?
Anyhow, big to you, hope you get some answers and some relief soon.
Hi Shazz, to you. When I had Nicholas my arms, hands, elbows, knees and ankles ached. I could barely pick him up at times and I was in tears with the pain (not all of the time but most of the time). A few times I had to get Rob to pick him up for me as I just couldn't do it. It did subside eventually. This time with Declan my hands and elbows have been aching a lot aswell as my knees, which makes it really difficult when Nicholas wants me to sit on the floor with him. I have been just taking panadol when it really gets too much and at night putting a heat back on my knees and for a little while hold the heat bag on my elbow which also helps with my hands too.
I hope you manage to get some relief soon matey. I am totally sympathising with you atm.
Thanks Tiff and Kazz
reading what you wrote Tiff had me nodding in total aggrement i was 8 years younger also with my last baby and that was my first thought it was just my body protesting to this strange behaviour of having to pat a back for what seems like forever but then the knees and ankles and even my toes ached so go figure
Kazz ~ i have taken panadol too then i get guilty cause i am BF i have a heat pack that i get up to heat up more times then i get up to Ryan ( DOH ) hopefully it will ease off soon
Shazz, when I was in hosp with Declan the nurses gave me Votaren tablets and I was b/fing him. I know you wouldn't be able to take them all of the time but maybe every now and then you could?! Maybe check with your dr first, but I am pretty sure they would be ok to take. MY MCHN also told me that I could rub Votaren Emulgel on my joints when they became really painful and I was still b/fing then too.
Yes! I had achy knees, ankles and feet for about six months after Emily was born.
On another board I post on, someone started a thread about this and there were heaps of replies, it seems alot of people experience it. It just seems to disappear on its own eventually.
Without worrying you, i Too had the same thing happen to me when DS#1 was 4 months old. It started as sore joints and by the time he was 6 monthsd old i couldn't lift him, bend down, or undo jars/open drinks. After seeing a rheumatologist i was diagnosed with arthritis and put on voltaran and then stronger meds as that did not help to the point of being hospitalized for steroid treatment. Apparently, horomes that are pg related can cause this to happen and some people only get it mildly and then it goes, others like myself are stuck with it. Subsequent pg can make it go away for good, however mine got to the point where my knuckles are now fused and i do not have full mobility of them. I can't make a fist or completely flatten my hands out. Thanfully pg with DS#2 went well with no meds for pain, only inflammation. I have no symptoms (touch wood) as yet and in all actual fact can squat down which is something i haven't been able to do since before DS#1. So pg #2 must have done some good.
All i can suggest is speaking your GP and start with some anti imflamatories and hope that does the job.
Take care
