    Mini Pill and Fertility

    Hi guys

I know it's only early days yet but I'm thinking of going on the mini pill when DH and I start DTD again.

I am really worried that this will affect my future fertility - taking a long time to conceive Blake has left me to believe that stopping things from happening naturally can cause these issues.

Can the mini pill affect my fertility? I just don't want to fall pregnant extremely soon after Blake, although it would be a blessing, and I can't use condoms for a number of reasons.

Ashlee, it's a hard one, isn't it. The mini-pill is not supposed to affect fertility, I guess it's just a question of whether you are comfortable that there is no effect that is not yet known. The bonus of the mini pill is that it's been around a long time and lots of studies have been done, which is why "they" are confident to say it's safe for bfing and doesn't affect bfing.

My problem is I can't take it as I get constant spotting. But if it works for you I'd say it's a good option. Other than condoms there aren't many options while bfing, which is my problem atm. The other thing to consider is that bfing is 95% effective for 6 months IF you meet ALL THREE of the following criteria: Exclusively bfing (ie no formula or solids), feed at night (ie once they start sleeping through you need to look at other contraception) AND no AF. HTH.

    Hi,

Yes, I had heaps of trouble breastfeeding on the minipill too. I really dont know how it affects future fertility, although, like the other ladies have said, it's been around and lots of studies-- so I'd assume it's ok. On a different note, my GP has always told me that the mini pill is less effective as a contraceptive than the normal pill- so be careful if you dont want to concieve too soon . It's apparently REALLY important that you take it the exact same time each day (within an hour, from memory). I know they say that with the normal pill too, so I didnt really think much of it when my OB told me to take it same time each day, but apparently with the mini pill it's absolute necessity for optimal protection.

Sorry I didnt really answer your question, but HTH anyway

Give the mini pill a try...like MelanieR said, as long as you meet those 3 x criteria in the first 6 months, it should be okay. Although there are women on BB whom have fallen preg exclusively b/f and taking mini pill.
I fell preg when Sophie was 10 months old....whilst b/f and taking mini pill. I fell pregnant b4 getting AF post birth too.....
So to answer your question .......the mini pill in no way effected our ability to conceive.....but then again...everyone is diff.

As some of the girls have stated there are a number of BB girls who have fallen pregnant while on the mini pill, I think the reliability of it is something like 96%.

I went into great detail about the mini pill with my DR a few weeks back, she said her thoughts were it`s the safest form of contraception for women who want a gap between children or are at a stage in their lives where they aren`t sure if they are finished childbearing. My Dr specialises in fertility and reproducvtive issues so I like to think she knows what she`s talking about.

I`ve only been on the mini pill for a week myself after months of not knowing what to do with contraception and not really wanting to go on the mini pill but after speaking to my Dr about it I feel better about taking it.
