I have a question about birthdays.
From my basic understanding JWs don't celebrate the as such, but are they acknowledged at all in terms of getting older, maturing etc as opposed to it being more special than another day.
I wouldnt say you are not good enough lol, everyone is good enough for God and 2 years isnt a very long time really. I studied on and off for about 7 years! But i do understand the reasons why people hold back. Its a real sacrifice to become a jw. And you are absolutely correct, you have to be 100% convinced that it is the truth. If you are not fully convinced then you are not likely going to live according to what you've learned and thats what is required of JW's.
But good on you for studying....thats really the only step to becoming convinced. The people who Paul preached to didnt just accept what they heard from him. The account in Acts tells us that they really studied to make sure that what they were learning from the christians was true.
Acts 17:10*"Immediately by night the brothers sent both Paul and Silas out to Be‧roe′a, and these, upon arriving, went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11*Now the latter were more noble-minded than those in Thes‧sa‧lo‧ni′ca, for they received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so."

Im just thinking about replacing every name for God with Jehovah.
Most translations use Lord because He is called the Lord of lords in Revelation, Deuteronomy, Psalm, and 1 Timothy.
In Exodus God calls Himself the I AM.
The prophecy to Mary from the angel said Jesus would be called Emmanuel
I believe that the Maker of everything, including language, can choose to have many names, so why is only the one used by JWs?
Jehovah is his personal name as opposed to the titles he is known by. Much like 'Prince Charles' has the title of Prince, but his personal name is Charles... 'Prince' doesnt really define his personality whereas 'Charles' is personal to him. And if he was only ever known or refered to as 'Prince', it would be hard to distinguish him from the many other 'Princes' who have the same title.
We still sometimes refer to God by his titles such as God, Lord, Father etc. But when you think about it, there are many god's, lords and fathers, so in order to identify whom we are talking about we use his personal name. In hebrew his name is YHWH and it means 'Become' and in hebrew its translated to mean 'He causes to become'
So the importance of his name is in the fact that it identifies him as the creator.
My mum generally rings up and asks me if I feel older, and I teased DH last year when he turned 30, but apart from that, its just another day. Sometimes I even have trouble remembering how old I am, and hafta count forward from 1985!
