Has anyone had a m/c or lost a baby due to a urine infection?

Hi LadiesWell its been approx 3 months since i lost my baby at 5 months pregnant and i guess im still trying to figure out WHY!
I had a urine infection and that was all,so im worried next time if i get pregnant it may happen again.So the question is has anyone else had the same problem,had a m/c or waters broke due to a urine infection?

I am so sorry for your loss. That would have been incredibly hard for you and I am sure each day is still a battle.

I just wanted to let you know that I am sure you did nothing wrong in your pregnancy to cause a miscarriage. UTI's can happen to lots of women are quite common in pregnancy. I had one at about 18weeks and am still carrying and my midwife said that it in no way would be a risk to the baby.

I think sometimes that some babies are just meant fo heaven for another purpose. It is so sad for their mummy and daddy and the people left behind who love them so much and so many questions are left unanswered but I know when I had my miscarriage last year I just had to trust that my little one was meant for heaven. That is the only thing that got me through.

Hi Ladies It turns out that urine infections are a common cause for m/c,i have been googling and have found alot on the topic and im suprised to hear that yeast causes the infections in alot of ladies.HERE IS SOMETHING I FOUND

I am 3 months pregnant and was told by my doctor that I have a urinary tract infection. I am taking antibiotics, because he said the infection can cause miscarriages. I have three questions: 1) What causes urinary tract infections; 2) Why didn?t I have any symptoms? (I?ve had a urinary tract infection before and it was very painful); 3) Do you recommend cranberry juice for preventing it ?

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common bacterial infections in adult women. They are 14 times more common in women than in men. By age 24, about one-third of women have had at least one physician diagnosed UTI that was treated with prescription medication. So thanks for your important questions!

Complications and detection
The many chemical, physiological, and anatomical changes during pregnancy help make UTIs the most common pregnancy complication. Complications can include miscarriage, kidney infection, pre-term labor, pre-term rupture of membranes, preterm birth, and uterine infection. Because 5-10 % of UTIs in pregnancy are asymptomatic, as yours is, a urine test for bacteria is routine at the first prenatal visit. Cause and prevention go hand-in-hand and can be greatly influenced by fluids and diet. Women with recurrent UTIs may have more hidden, underlying causes that are hard or impossible to prevent and difficult to treat.

we went into 3 lots of early labour with jack and all due to UTI and thrush have been advised with next pg to have weekly urine testing to keep on track of any infection

wow - this is an interesting read - i was diagnosed with asymptomatic UTI last week - i had liver pain and on investigating, DR got me to doa urine test - i have never had a UTI without symptoms before. will be talking to the OB on wednesday about what preventative measures i can take for remainder of pg as i know i'm prone to infections.

The only way to try and prevent them is by making sure you drink plenty of fluids (mainly water), Make sure that after DTD you go to the toilet straight away, Keeping the area clean but not using iritating soaps/washes and by not wearing tight clothing around the area like lycra (swimming costumes).
With thrush you can help prevent that by taking a tablet like inner health plus which helps keep good bacteria in the body.
I didnt know that you could get a UTI withotut having any symptoms showing up. Very interesting.
I know the reason women are more prone to them in pregnancy is because your body produces hormones that soften the muscle that separates the uretha to the the vagina. This muscle softens and bacteria can easily enter causing infections.

Hi Dearmum,

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful baby boy. I know how it must feel because I've too lost my little angel Joshua at almost 21 weeks in Oct this year, I suspect due to an angry fibroid in the wall of my uterus which just went really agro with the pregnancy hormones and probably the IVF drugs.

When I had my late miscarriage my OB said the fibroid was part of the reason why I went into pre term labour ( although I suspected it played a huge part in it ), so I know what is feels like to just want the bl**dy answers ! He didn't give me the other part of the reason.....

I've got a friend that had numerous urinary tract infections early in the pregnancy and she had a healthy baby boy, but after I lost my little boy I read like 20 books on miscarriage and stillbirth and one book said that UTI do not cause miscarriages as the bacteria is almost always limited to the bladder and never reaches the uterus. BUT, UTI can cause pre term labour in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

So like the others say, preventative measures are always best.

Hi Yeh once my OB finally checked me after 20weeks pregnant THEN he gave me antibiotics but the next day my waters broke.I feel soooo mad at him for not even bothering to check me the whole time gosh if i had a gun i think i would shoot his leg.I am the type that gets UTI even when im not pregnant but i usally know when i have it from a burning feeling but this time with pregnancy i couldnt feel nothing.I feel so let down,and i feel i lost a healthy baby for nothing.

Oh hun, I dont blame you for feeling let down. You did everything you could though so dont blame yourself. Some dr's get so complaycent (sorry dont know how to spell that word) and dont check all the things that they SHOULD check. Bloody morons!!

I hope the pain eases for you and that you can get the answers you deserve. I am sure it will take some time but you deserve some closure after all you have been through.

Thankyou.....I thought i would post the information so other ladies can be aware of the problem.Im wanting to get pregnant again and i know this time i will be checking my urine every week.Im on a yeast free diet now and drinking lots of water,i hope it never happens to me again because i feel really bad like i let my baby die.I know i shouldnt blame myself but deep down i do.

IKWYM--we moms blame ourselves for everything that goes wrong, no matter how irrational. NOBODY sets out to contract a uti, after all. Keep us posted how it goes.

I am very sorry for your loss. I hope you don't mind me asking, did your water break early or preterm labor? I know that having a bacterial infection can cause preterm labor. It is usually an infection in the vagina that travels to the uterus. Did they test your little boy for infections?

I have had 2 late losses. I have never had a bacterial infection. I have had every test that my high risk doctors can do. Everything including infection were negative. They tested my babies and placentas for infections of just about every kind and there were none. It ended up being a suspected blood clotting disorder (even though all of the tests were negative). There was a massive clot in Shelby's placenta that restricted her blood supply. Both of my babies were behind in growth.

Hi Laney,Im sorry to hear about your loss its so hard losing a baby at that stage.
Yes my waters broke suddenly in the morning,my baby was still alive 2 days later but my doc said to bring on the labour as he would of died with no waters,no i didnt have the baby tested because i just wanted to respect his body ifywim.I know i will do things differently next time around and also check my urine every week.Thanks for your input.I wish you all the best.

It might be helpful to also have a swab/culture done a few times for a vaginal infection. They do not always have symptoms. If you have had an infection they can come back in other pregnancies. They are sometimes triggered by hormones.

My friend just recently went into labour at 32 weeks due to a UTI. They were able to stop the labour & she is now 36 weeks. I think it may be more common than we thought?

Im really sorry about your loss! I just lost mine inbetween 5 and 8 weeks. Had alot of discharge and a pretty iccy smell. Tests just came back saying i have something vaganitis. Unsure if that caused mine to pass but i'll ask the doctors this afternoon and see if i can find where this comment is and let you know!
