Has anyone used or is using a doppler? I was reading up about them and wasn't sure what to think about them. I have lost 2 angels and thought maybe this could help me next time. Both times i went to scans and there was not fetal heart beat.
Thanks for your time!
Hi there
I haven't used one myself, but earlier in the pregnancy I have heard it can do more harm than good. The bubs is very small and sometimes it is hard to find the heartbeat, if you're not able to find it you may cause yourself a lot of unneccessary stress when chances are, bubs is fine. Unless you're trained, I wouldn't recommend it, but that's just my opinion
a home doppler is not going to show anything until at least 10 or 12 weeks - and even then it's a bit touch and go as to whether you'll find the baby using one. i had lost five angels before carrying my DD to term - i actually felt her move before i could find her reliably with the doppler. i DID use it to keep an eye on her when she was very still and it gave me some peace of mind - particularly during the bushfires early last year when i was struggling with my own BP (had to be evacuated) and the stress was preventing me from being still enough to feel her. it can offer you peace of mind - but later in pregnancy - early in pregnancy the bubba's heartbeat just isn't strong enough to be picked up - you'd be more likely to pick up the pulse through your placenta which is slower and can then add more concern about the health of the baby.
