Unhappy This shouldn't be so hard - stoopid Pi Form (VTAC)

I have submitted an application for University Entrance next year and am currently trying to complete my Pi form... and really struggling.

I am so anxious about it that I can't even put my words around the right way. I really want to do this and I know why but I have opened this site four times in the last week and I can't do it!!

I dont know if it's that I'm scared of not getting in giving me this block or what, but i'm getting frustrated because I just want to get it done.

Anyone else applied for 2009 and had this problem??

It's so simple; motivation of study, academic performance, & other relevant information.

My academic history (at uni) is none too flash - in fact I failed every single unit I undertook in first year.

2005 was my first year away from home, I had no financial support, I was sexually assaulted my first week there, my parents split up and my nanna died. Combine all of those experiences with not really having an interest in the course and being forced to go to uni, and apparently study took a backseat and working to support myself, drinking and boys () was a much more appealing option.

How the heck do I make that sound respectable like I am worth a second chance at study? *sigh*

Any advice, ideas, or brilliant minds who want to write it for me () are more than welcome.

entering uni as a school leaver, i wasn't motivated in the right way to achieve my goal. i was floundering and went to university as it was the expected thing for me, as a school leaver, to do. at that time, i was going through a lot of turmoil in my personal life, and, unfortunately, my studies took a back seat. i am now older and have a new perspective on not only life in general, but on the studies i wish to undertake. i have changed direction in my life, and my focus now i on achieving academically, and eventually professionally, in the field of X is strongly developed. i have been able to spend a lot of time deciding on the career path that most interests and motivates me to achieve, and this is the field in which i believe my future lays

Ash, i can't remember what field you're applying for, but i vaguely recall midwifery - if that's the case, i would include something along the lines of

the birth of my own child, and the care i received at that time have motivated me to want to offer the same level of care and support for other pregnant women

    hope that help a bit...

First thing is not to fill it in on the website at this stage. Instead, write point form answers to each of the questions out on paper. Get someone else to help you put the points in a sensible order, and also to add things you may have forgotten.
You are entitled to state the circumstances that made your first venture into Uni not an academic success. Equally important is to state how you are now in a different place, and why those factors are unlikely to bite you again.
If you have been active in an area related to your future course, put that in as well - a huge factor in poor results at Uni is people finding out that the path their course leads to is not what they wanted. So if you have already experienced the area you want to work in it is important.

Other relevant information can be quite broad - do you have evidence for being organised, for being determined, for being able to relate to people, for any other quality that is likely to help you study and participate in your chosen field of endeavour?? You are trying to give the committee-that-ticks-the-boxes some reasons to tick them for you.

    All the best

I forgot about this thread and was about to start another one, which i may do as well -but does this look on the right track?

Explain why you chose to apply for the course(s) for which you are applying (e.g., interest in field or employment goal)
I recently experienced pregnancy, labour and childbirth for the first time, and I fell in love.

I had such an empowering birthing experience that I am now compelled to work in the field with professionals who deliver such high standards of care during pregnancy, birth and the post-partum period. I thoroughly enjoyed reading, researching and asking my antenatal midwife many questions. I became obsessed with birth; this knowledge ensured I was informed and in control of my labour experience. My son was born into the hands of an obviously inspired and devoted midwife, who gave me extraordinary care in labour; and I aspire to give that same level of care and support to other pregnant women.

I am fascinated by pregnancy and drawn to pregnant women to discuss ideas and choices regarding childbirth. I want to educate women, to give them a voice, and to strengthen their belief in their bodies. I want to provide a supporting role, and continuity of care to mothers and their families though this precious time. I want to be an ear to a new mother that needs to debrief her child?s birth. I really, really care about being a positive part of any woman?s pregnancy, labour and birth experience.

After months of spending my spare time watching birthing videos, reading recommended texts and, most recently, watching ?The Business of Being Born? I am feeling even more inspired and I know that becoming a midwife will be an extraordinarily worthwhile and satisfactory career.
I can have up to 2000 characters - currently have just under 1500. Should I keep writing because there is room to? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can add or change? Once I have finetuned this one I will post the next one.

I would be a little wary about the "recently" in your first sentence. You might mistakenly give the impression that the realities of parenthood haven't hit yet, and that you are still riding that early "high".

Other than that it looks good to me

Also - see if you can put a copy of your application in the midwives/student midwives forum to get some more specific feedback from those who have really been there.
