In my mind, Leila is pronounced "lee-la" (like the Futurama character) and Layla is "lay-la"
The song is not actually about a prostitute, despite what many people think. The short version is, the song was written by Clapton during the time he was in love with Pattie Boyd, George Harrison's (then) wife, but specifically about "The Story of Layla and Majnun" which he was given while he agonised over whether to pursue Boyd or not. Anyway, I think Layla is prettier than Leila (regardless of how you pronounce it)
