The most unique or unusual name you've heard?

Firstly, i apologise if this has been done already...
what is the most unusual or unique name you've heard?? (I guess whether you liked it or not!)
Maybe a name you really like but didn't have the courage to use??
Or have you given your little one a unique name and would be happy to share it?

I'm flicking through name books, reading threads and really like hearing unique names...

we have a girl due in July and are looking for something a little different, so i'm hoping to be inspired by this thread but even just out of interest, i love hearing names which you just don't hear very often at all! (okay so maybe Frank Zappa's kids - Moon Unit and Diva Muffin are a little tooooo 'unique'?!?!)

Names like Willow and Hunter (girls) I do like, but IMO aren't exactly that unique or unusual these days... i guess a lot of people gave their kids names that were unique only to see their popularity grow in time... it happens. Or if it is truly unique, you get some interesting reactions.. And then you can't win, if you give your child a 'common' name you'd probably get comments about how popular or common they are

I think each to their own and you name your child - stuff what anyone else thinks of it, quite frankly

looking forward to hearing some unusual and unique suggestions... i'll see what i can find in my book!

I wokr in childcare and have come across sooo many names in 12yrs! These names are not so unusual, but fairly unique and I quite like them (probably why I remember them!), and I'm not really one for really different names:

    Lissian (pronounced Lizi-arn)
    Gabriana (Gab-ree-arna)
    Lissette (Liz-ette)
    Tijan (Tee-arn)

    Ackerly (Ack-erlee)
    Tarique (Tah-reek)
    Kellan (Kell-en)
    Slaide (Slade)

Not a name I would use, or even a name in my opinion, but I taught a little girl named Princess. We thought her mum was just calling her that as a nickname, but no it was her real name. Even more unfortunate for the kid, was her last name was Hayley. So it was Princess Hayley. Oh dear. Poor kid was embarrassed everytime someone said her name. (as in you could see her turn bright red when I called out her name). And to top it off, she was the biggest tomboy I've ever known, so really un Princess like.
We asked her mum one day why the name, and she said she was so drugged out after the birth that when they asked her what she was gonna call her, she just said Princess, and her hubby took her at her word and filled the forms in before she knew it. (???)

Lilias - exactly what i was hoping for, a teacher or childcare worker who would've heard a few in their time... some of those are pretty, and unique. I agree, I wouldn't want something too weird, but just different.

ktdancer... Poor little Princess! I can't believe how she got that name I hope i don't do anything like that when I give birth! i'll make sure DH knows exactly the name/s we've shortlisted before it all happens! So ironic she'd be a tomboy I'm all for different names but it is a bit sad if the kid's embarassed every time her name's called I'd go for a little unique or unusual without being plain out weird...

Actually this cannot legally happen as BOTH parents must sign birth certificate forms so that things like this dont happen. Unless you taught her 20+ years ago. My guess is she thought it would be a cute name then when people reacted less than favourably to it she thought up the story lol

Only DH did DS's form - I had nothing to do with it. But he did it when DS was a week old, and we picked his name at 13w gestation.

I know a little girl named Pixie.

My chosen name is unique - Caryn Michelle Zaidie. I'm the only one with this name on Facebook, that's pretty unique! But I do get people getting all moody because I don't spell my name "correctly": I have even had people reply to an e-mail from Caryn X with "hello Karen" - which I hate!

Why not delve back in your family history? My great-grandmother was Sylvia Zaidie and I think that is one of the most beautiful names I've ever heard. She was a beautiful person too. Many names like Irene, Gertrude, Margaret etc are dying out because people aren't naming people after relatives these days.

My SIL is Irish, so the names are unique here but are very common in Ireland.

    Aoife (eefa)
    Aisling (ashling)
    Audrey

My little girl is named Tess Alice, it's not unusual, just don't know anyone who has named a girl Tess. The MW made a comment after the birth that she hadn't heard that name in a very long time.
My GF had a baby the same time and named her Ingrid, another one I haven't heard for quite some time.
If you look on Births, deaths & Marriages website you can go back as far as Birth's have been registered to get some of the older names not used any more.

Heather72 - I love the name Tess! It is on my favourites list

Lady Zaidie - I have a different 'Karen' too - my middle name is Caron - but I think I like Caryn better!

freya - thats exactly what I thought too. She's not that old, so you're right her mum would have had to sign the forms.
I taught a Shayla and an Asha aswell that I thought were pretty and unusual names.
