I posted the exact same thread 16 odd months ago We also have no contact with the cousin except for weddings and funerals and we live in different countries.

I used the name that my cousin had used but there have been absolutley NO negative repercussions. Just a few jokes - but nothing bad at all. No-one in our familes cares at all - if anything, it shows that we have great taste in names. My poor Oma had only 3 great grandchildren, they were all boys and TWO of them had the same name. She just calls one Big L and my son Little L.

You have to do what is right for you, your family and your child. If you feel this is the right name for you and your child then, in my experience, GO FOR IT !!

If you don't have any contact I don't see the problem, even if you did they might find it flattering that you used the same name...even though you thought of it first
If you love it go for it.

    I'd say go for it
My DH absolutely loves Maddison, and my cousin has used it. We won't even hesitate using it if we have a girl again. It's the name DH has always loved.

I'd be careful of this eh. My aunt's got a little boy who's name is Jayden, and apparently it was a crap idea on my part to call my son Aiden because it sounded too much like Jayden.
Of course i though "bugger em, love the name Aiden, they'll get over it"
So do what you want hun!

Two of my cousins have the same name. As in, a brother and sister named their kids the same thing. We grew up seeing each other all the time and it was NEVER a big deal. So even if you did see them a lot who cares? No one owns a name, if you love it then use it!
