I have the same name (different spelling) as my mum's cousin. We're quite close - in fact, she was the only one of my mum's cousins to be invited to my wedding. I also get on really well with her parents so mild confusion when I call them on the phone.

She occasionally calls me her "namesake" but that's it as far as repercussions go.

Given that I have both grandfathers named John, my mum's brother and my mum's mum's brother are both Johns, my dad's sister married a John, my dad's middle name is John, DS's middle name is John and DH has an uncle John... I consider myself lucky I have my name and am not a John!

Having said all that, my cousin gave her son the middle name George. I like this name and would be putting that forward as the main name for a second son. Now I consider it out of bounds - but I'm not that sold on it. DS#2 would have middle names James Alan so it's up to DH to pick the first name. If he picks George I won't be too upset! (One of DH's great-uncles was named George, as well as my cousin's FiL.)
