Depending on the name, extra letters are the original spelling, maybe not the traditional spelling, but original nonetheless. For example, my two... Alexzander was the original medieval spelling of the name & from my research Alexander the great was likely to have the z in his name but over the years it was dropped. Juliette is the same, traditionally it was spelt like that but the spelling tended to change to Juliet over the years.
Random changes for no reason bother me though. Unusual names & regional spellings if they are for a reason are fine also IMO.
