That poor kid!
My kids go to school with 2 kids called Cougar. One is a boy the other is a girl! Very strange IMO but I guess their parents like it.
I know we've had this thread before, but I heard a couple of new ones this week....
A co workers relative named their child West-Dynamite omg!
And the other Detroit - maybe not soo bad, but still a little strange.

West-Dynamite...thats a tad extreme. Poor kid.
We have a Mango at school here. Oh & 2 kids that grew up here..Casper & Felix.
Nichole Richie has called her baby boy-Sparrow James Midnight![]()
Nicole Richie, wow I didn't know she was pg again!
at the start of the year when in hosp with DS a girl there was awaiting the news of her sisters baby. Her sisters DP was a painter & when they had their little boy they called him Tuxan....her DP fav paint colour!!!
A work colleague named her first born Steel though I am unsure if thats how she spelt it. She is expecting again in the next few weeks.
I like some of the weird names because they are so different but wouldn't chose them myself iykwim.
Nae x
I know a Steele who would be in his 20s. He also has a brother Reed
My Aunty has a coworker who named their bub Storm, which I like.
There is a boy who used to go to playgroup with DS1 names Seagrass. I thought that one was a little more unusual

A friend of DH's recently had a baby and called him Jaggar. Not completely out there, but not my cup of tea. DD goes to kindy with a Trojan too, he is lovely little boy but everytime I think of his name I think of condoms!! Poor kid. DS also had a little girl called Miracle in his class last year. Again, not a name I would choose but it did suit her and is quite a pretty name.
I wanted to call Palmer 'Ishanley'...my fave paint colour LMAO!
So do I! :-)
What's with the 'poor kid' comments? Perhaps they'll be worse off in life because they have an unusual name? Not sure I know of any statistics that support that, I know plenty of successful happy people with different names.
I think there's a fine line between sharing unusual names we've come across and making judgements that go beyond whether you personally like the name or not. I really hope we can stay on the right side of the line.
i have a odin witch erveryone said is a wierd name and i have now heard it 3 more times since i had him lol and i have a jonras witch i have never heard but odin wanted to name him that so he got his way lol
My Mum complained when I named Palmer. Said that she would be bullied and have a miserable life becuase of her weird name. She said I was basically cursing her.
I had the s**t beaten out of me at school and I have a 'normal' name...what difference does it make, I wonder?
I agree NelleEven though a name is unusual imagine if it was YOUR name, or that of your child and everyone was passing judgement. I have an usual name... and my children have "lesser used" names too. I find that often even the most unusual names end up suiting the person. As a teachers assistant I have come across lots of unusual names but after a few days I didn't think anything of it. For example there was a little girl called Sixteen.... after about 2 minutes of adjusting i thought it was beautiful and perfect
ETA: when I was born my mother had to deal with a lot of doubtful relatives regarding my name too... not nice to hear when you are a child. I think it really set me up to be the black sheep of the family hearing the negativity
But now I like that it's a bit different.

Just to clear something up, I only said 'poor kid' in relation to one of the names I mentioned because of the fact that I associate his name with condoms - so 'poor kid' as in I can't help making that association, not because I am sitting in judgement of his parents.
A friend of mine has four kids with names I've never heard of before... (as kids names that is)
Shepherd, Weston, Canon & Lux
I wouldn't do it, but it's perfect for her family![]()
I dont get what the big deal is. Just because we are saying "poor kid" or "they'll be teased" doesnt mean we are judging them personally we are just stating our opinions. Now i am all for different names but are just completely ridiculous. And if i was to name my child some of the names mentioned or worse than i would expect to get told that my childs name is ridiculous. I too have a some what normal name, but when i worked at target i had a customer ask me if i was spanish and i said no and he then said my name was stupid and that my parents must have been drunk when they named me. So i agree that it doesnt matter what you call your child some of them will have people commenting on their names. I was talking to my DP last night and i said that i may as well name my child "hamburger" or something else that is just as ridiculous. Both my SIL's have kids that have in my opinion silly names, One is Daemon Hunter (the way daemon is spelt it can be pronounced demon) and the other is Ella-Mae June (its not silly just sounds funny)
