I met a transgender (pre-snip) stipper once. Their name was Velvet.

As a result of this, I am personally not too keen on it. My opinion only...

it does sound quite "stripperish"...would she (your future child) like the name if she has a serious job or has to have it on a name badge? called out at assembly? I am quite conservative with names tho...just my opinion

Not for me. Not at all. Sorry, Ray, this one just seems really wrong to me.

I don't like it because I couldn't help associating it with Cotton, Wool, Nylon, Polyester... I would be more inclined to go with Violet, or have Velvet as a middle name, perhaps even part 2 of a hyphenated first name.

However, like Nelle I think it would grow on me.

What about it with something else?

These might be weird but hey I'll give it a shot. V names slash Velvetish names lol.

Depends how unique you want to be and what else you like the sound of to what you could work it with.

Its a name someone I know called their daughter.
It reminds me of the Velveteen Rabbit, shes very cute but yeah I was wondering what people thought cos the only other thing it reminded me of was a nightclub that was open for about 3 weeks in Melb.

I think I like the idea of a middle name though

I thought it could grow on me but once I read that it sounded stripperish I have to agree. I like Hollo's idea of Violet, sounds similar.

Sorry, just wanted to be honest.

Although it wouldn't be a pick of mine, I do quite like it - Elizabeth Taylor played the role of Velvet in National Velvet - love that movie!!

Not too sure about Velvet- I think it's to do with the connotations maybe? But reading through and considering materials I was reminded that I once saw the name "Calico" as a suggestion, which I thought was kind of cute. (Girl)
