10 month old - playing with her too much?

She isn't smothering a child who is 10 months old - they can use all the love and attention they get, but she might find it difficult if the baby grows up and is unable to entertain herself, especially if she wants to have more kids, but then it's a learning curve.

She might also have been making the most of being a "guest" somewhere she DOESN'T have to do the housework to be able to give her DD her undivided attention.

I'm a SAHM and i too spend a lot of time and energy when DD's up being with her, showing her things, singing songs etc. They are babies for such a short time, i try to do my housework when she's sleeping and when i cook she comes in and watches or a wear her on my back. It's probably just a different way of parenting to yours.

DH tells me I'm a great mum but a poor housewife - I prioritise DS over a sparkling house. Not a clean house, just a super-clean house. But he didn't play alone well at 10m, he thrived on walking around, stories, dancing... and I loved being a visitor at that time because I didn't have to mess around cooking etc!

I figure if DS screams when I put him down, why put him down If your SiL's child needs attention else she screams and cries, good for your SiL for not putting your baby through that. DS has some alone times and is happy, but prefers me as his playmate. I enjoy it while it lasts. I talk and sing non-stop to DS too and his vocal skills are amazing (14m old, 12 words and small sentences).

I like to think I do a bit from column A and a bit from column B! lol
I spend time with DS when he is awake and try and clean when he is asleep! But he also has his own time playing with his toys an exploring the house! Plus he is quite independant and is wanting to do thing by himself a lot now and won't play with me even if Im right next to him!
But he was Prem and now he is a normal 10 month old bub! And I think that has a lot to do with me spending time with him! My house is never spotless and we often have beans on toast for dinner but the dishes are done and the clothes are washed! I do what I have to do to not live in a pigsty! But thats all I think my job is DS not the house work, that comes second!

I thnk you can smother them a bit.. As in they won't be able to entertain themselves and over tme they will eventually demand your attention ALL the time..

But each to thier own.. I talk with my kids and we sing from time to time. But I don't spend every waking moment being a "mum"
