Baby's Belly Button Popping out again

When my baby was born his belly button was an outie and the Health Nurse said a weakness in his stomach muscles were just making his belly button stick out and as it got stronger it would go in. I think she might have even called it a hernia. Sure enough over time it went in. He is now 10 months and over the last couple of weeks it is starting to stick out again.

I'm not worried about it but curious as to why this is happening. Do this mean he will have an outie rather than an innie? Does anyone have any ideas?

Aricyn's belly button has always stuck out - and I asked a doc, they checked beneath it just incase it was because of a hernia, and there was nothing there. Apparently if you can feel a hard lump behind it, you should get it checked out - otherwise they are probably just blessed with an outie.
Aricyn just plays with his... well until we take his nappy off for his bath and he sees something else to fiddle with.. pmsl!!!!!!

my mum had 8 kids, a few of us had outtie belly buttons, apparently while we were still younge she wrapped a 20c piece in cloth or tape and then taped it onto our belly covering the bellybutton.. leave it on 2-3 days (sometimes needs a bit longer) and walla, it turns into an innie.. but do get it checked 1st and make sure there is no hernia.

My family are blessed with umbilical hernias. My dad, aunt, sister and daughter as well as myself all had them. My grandmother used to swear that a penny taped to the belly button worked. We did the modern thing and had my daughter's surgically fixed. I would suggest next time you're at the docs you ask him to check it. THey usually only suggest surgery if it is causing problems or getting bigger. Otherwise if no hernia then he is going to have an outie!

Thanks for your replies I will get it checked out by the doctor next time we are there. I have never heard of that coin trick - that is amazing will keep it in mind.
