DS is still in his bassinet in our room, though I've just started putting him in his cot in his room for day sleeps so he gets used to it. I prefer having him nearby at night because I can hear him and know he's okay - otherwise I'd be going back and forth all night checking on him. (Actually, I'd probably be camped out on the floor in his room!)
As for the day/night thing, I think it matters less where bub sleeps and more how you behave with him at different times of the day. We started massaging and bathing DS as part of his bedtime routine very early on, and I always feed in the dark overnight and put him straight back to bed after his feed. During the day, I feed frequently and we cluster feed every afternoon from about 4pm to tank him up for the night. He has always slept in a light room with the blinds up during the day. He's currently taking one feed overnight. HTH.
