    Breathed in bath water.....

    Hi,

I just gave my 5 month old a bath and he constantly wants to roll onto his tummy, which is fine because i support his chin so his face doesn't go into the water..... except with this bath the little bugger was too quick for me. He sucked in what seemed to be a fair bit of water. He coughed and spluttered for a while, took him a few seconds to get his breath. He seems fine now, he has had a feed and is lying in bed chatting to himself.... should I be worried???

I am sure he will be fine!
Harrison did this to me too when he was around 5 months... it scared the bajesus outta me.
Just keep an eye on him, but as I said, I am sure he will be just fine. If it is any help, Harrison is almost 14 months old and breathes water in at almost every bath time... he tries to eat the bubbles! lol... he is always fine afterwards

If your baby has water in his lungs, you will soon know about it... they scream and scream and it's awfully painful.

This is one of the reasons we have that reflex.. the one where you choke and automatically vomit if anything is stuck in your throat... so I wouldn't be worried.

He was a little unsettled before I put him down, like a belly pain but he has gone to sleep now so as Divvy said if he had water on his lungs I would know about it..... eeek! Thanks for the input! xxoo

Happened to me but my little one was younger and I was a wreck afterwards!! It was the saucer eyes and the arms straight out to the side that I couldn't get out of my head It was the massive cry afterwards that was the reassuring part (on her part I mean ) and there were no after effects.....well for her physically that is. For me mentally...... You would know if there were 'aftershocks' as it were but it sounds like your little one is fine

There would probaby only be a problem if you had baby oil in the water, if not lil one should be fine (the oil can get into their lungs and cause asphyxiation(sp??) i once heard)
