When did you stop using the baby monitor?

When did you stop using the baby monitor?
Im just wondering, as my DD sleeps through the night, 6:30pm - 7:00am, and I still use the monitor, just to be sure. I think thats more because she is located at the other side of the house than anything. We can hear her in our room if she is crying, but I fear that it may not be loud enough.

Still using the sound part at 16m. Stopped the movement monitor at about 11m I think. I guess I will keep using it until she is old enough to get out of bed and come and get me if there's a problem

We still use the sound monitor and our DD is 2 1/2. As she is over the other side of our house, it just gives me and DH piece of mind to know that if she has a bad dream or cries we can hear her. She can get out of her bed, but tends to stay in there until one of us gets her in the morning after waking up.

Is a monitor necessary? My mum said she wouldnt get one unless theres a reason for it i.e. a sick baby!

I guess its a personal choice really. We wouldn't have used one if bub was gonna be in the next room, but coz she is waaaay on the other side of the house I said Id feel so much better having one.

Yeah thats ok then! Wasn't sure if I was just being naive! We're going to have bub in the next room. Just don't want to be buying so much stuff that we have to leave it all behind when we go back to the UK!

Hehe I know the feeling, kind of like what do you NEED and what can you live without. Does your head in huh?

Yeah really does! We're going with the opinion that we can get anything we really need when the baby is here... don't want to be buying loads of stuff we don't need!

so....just to hijack this thead (sorry) - we are still using a monitor for DD at 2y 2m - when we have the new bub due in 2 weeks we will also have to have a monitor for him as well, is that how others have done it??

It is more for when we are downstairs in the evenings as the bedrooms are upstairs and new bub will be in with us and DD will be in the room next door, but before we go to bed we wouldn't be either to hear either.....

DS we never had a monitor. We bought a monitor when DD came along so i could shut 1 door and have the other open and still hear both kids. So we would put it in DS's room which was the furthest away. He just woke me up all night so we dont use it any more. I can hear both of them when they wake.. think its mothers intuition.. and DS's room is a fair distance from ours, on the other side of the house.
So really to answer your question.. we've really never used one at all.

As our kids b/room are at the other end of the house, I stopped using it for DS when he was about 12-14mo after forgetting to turn it on one night and waking up hearing him cying so I figured that my ears were so well trained by then I'd be able to hear by myself.

We are still using a monitor now in DD's room but only so that I can get to her asap when she wakes in the night so she wont wake DS at the same time.

All comes down to how your house is layed out really and what level of peace of mind you need to be able to relax to sleep.

I still use mine for dd ... but I am going to have to stop when ds comes. He would be sleeping in our room and the monitor makes an awfull lot of noise when it goes off.

DD is also now in her big bed and can get out and walk to me on her own. In fact ... she has been waking ME up in the mornings for cuddles

We are still using ours for DS. His room is just next door to ours - but I still don't always hear him at night (I'm a pretty heavy sleeper & he doesn't cry very loudly until he gets really worked up). I like being able to get in there before he is properly upset.

The first night!!! Our house is so small and we could hear her better just from room to room. Also every time my DH sneezed I could hear it through the monitor - it echoed!! I'm really glad we don't use one cause I can relax at night rather than listening for every noise.

We used ours for about 2 mths at night, after that we stopped as every grunt and groan would wake us, and we can hear her cries from our bedroom.
We still use the sound monitor when we are up watching TV as sometimes we dont hear here and also if we are outside in the evening or during her day sleeps.

We still use the movement monitor, dont know when that will stop - its great peice of mind, especially as she is a tummy sleeper.
I have noticed though that if the ceiling fan is on high, the monitor thinks that she is still in bed... off topic, but thought i would mention this so others were aware.

We don't have one .... our flat is very small so there is no way we wouldn't hear her. The only time I wish we had one is if I need to go outside to hang washing or take out rubbish, so it doesn't seem worth it. We went to a party a month or so ago and someone said "do you have a baby monitor?" The Bear said "yes - one on either side of our heads"!

We had one for DS for about 8mths or so but it was a borrowed one and it was very staticy so it was annoying trying to go to sleep to static noises, our house was small anyway so we could hear. We are in a bigger house now but I haven't used one at all here as I can still hear DS and DD is still in our room and doesn't need one.
    LOL Bear!!
