ditch the dummy?

Crumpet i hate dummies, i hate evrything about them. I hate that there are kids that dont have any photos without the thing in their mouth, i hate that there are kids that are walking around with them in their mouth and i HATE that there are kids that learn to talk around them in their mouth. I think that they are dirty over used.... I DOUBLE hate them because people force their babies to learn to love something and then take it away or blame someone else for taking it away (ie santa, new baby, dummy fairy) I think thats just FERRAL and MEAN!!

I think that S is such a great baby for you Crumpet and that she would like you said learn to self settle super quick for you. Id ditch it now

Sounds like you just need to ditch it crumpet. If she's not using it from 10ish pm onwards, and sleeps right through, dude, you are on a good thing. She doesn't need it.

Give it the flick.

Do what I did - go cold turkey. Throw them all out (even the ones that have fallen down behind the cot/change table/couch) and just suck it up for a few nights and you'll be fine again.

I do hate the photos of DD that I see with her dummy in...

We had the same thing at around 6 months (without the sleeping through part!). I ditched them, cold turkey. First night getting him to sleep was a bit hard, but no more than usual. After that he didn't miss it.

I agreed with you until our last baby had some surgeries that were so painful and meant he had to be doped up on morphine..and in that situation, a dummy is a lifesaver let me tell you!! So I do think dummies have a place.

I'd try and wean now, I think 7 months is a great age to take it away. We did it with our first baby and it really onlt took a couple of nights. GL!!

We just got rid of the dummy at 2 years, he hasn't even missed it do it when you feel ready!

If it only takes her 20 mins to settle and she sleeps all night, i don't think you have that much to be concerned about.

You got me there Lee....as I use to work in a NICU i probably should have remembered this! TOTAL and utter LIFESAVER for the little ones and the nurses......BUT TOTALLY out of the norm of everyday life......

we just ditched it for DS hes just over 2 and DD wont take one at all and i was excited when i took him to the park first time without it and took some awesome pics of him no more ugly thing hanging around i say ditch it too its a lot harder when they are 2 let me tell u lol

no im lucky i dont to worry about the sleeping through thats for sure!

thats what worried me! i didnt want her to be walking and still wanting it...

WELL we made the move and didnt give DD her dummy at "suicide hour" as DH calls it...
and she whinged the same amount as she would with the dummy so that proved she didnt need it at that time of the day...
i put her to bed at 7pm no dummy, tucked her in, gave her her comforter and put her sleep sheep on and she hasnt made a sound!! but i dont wanna jinx us!!!

surely it cant be that easy???
