How do I keep my 2yr old warm at night?

Im looking for suggestions on keeping Alex warm at nights as he doesn't stay under the doona - he moves around heaps - and mid winter here is normally around -1. I will not have a heater in his room as they are just too dangerous.
He is a size 3 so not sure if there are one piece suits available in this size.

At Target they have the really thick sleep suits up to size 6!!!! They are just gorgeous, and he wont get cold in one of those!! HTH!!

i think best and less sell bigger sizes as well!!

Yep, your only options really are the sleep suits, or a heater in the bedroom. I don't know of a child who will keep covers on.

I got my nephew a size 3 (he has just gone 2 a couple of months ago) all cotton (but thick double layers) Snugtime sleepsuit in David Jones about 2 weeks ago on sale for $20. They have arms and legs in them and zip up. I bought 2 for my DD one with arms and one without. Then you can layer clothes underneath to suit the weather. I got the armless one in Myer for $35- that's the normal price. I think they're great!

I got DS some lined fleece suits from Target. He's the same, wont stay under the blankets and then when he wears pyjamas, likes to take his pants off! The ones i got are brilliant and come in big sizes too. Atm target have a 20% off sale on them so get in quick. Youll get them for $19.95.

Thank you all for your suggestions - we went to Target on the weekend and picked up a couple of one piece suits with 20% off so were only $15.99. And he loved it and didn't wake up early hours. Oh and he looks soo cute to

Thanks for the tips I'll be buying a sleeping suit for my nearly 2yo too I think. When he was a baby I had the column heater in his room but I think I'd prefer him to get used to life without one. I suspect that if kids can acclimatise to cold weather then it's healthier. I suspected this for many years and a few years ago my DD moved into a really cold part of the house where the central heating didn't reach very well (low pressure) I thought that she would get sick but she was by far the healthiest... she also walked to school in frost. So how does that work? Maybe because constant temp changes/adjusting is harder on the body than acclimatising to colder weather? Just a theory. We spent over $400 ONE BILL last winter on our central heating!!! that's not sustainable on our budget I'm afraid with utility costs set to rise 17% this year. So it's back to the old fashioned strategies of keeping warm for us! Rugging up!

Apart from the safety issues i have with heaters the cost is another. I've managed to get by without one i just layer up. Have you got double glazing? when i lived in UK it was almost essential and makes a huge difference.

gotta love the sleeping bag and sleep suits been a life saver for me DD kicked the covers off as soon as she could move.
a tip, if it is really cold buy your sleep suit a little larger than you probably need and layer using a nice snuggly pair of flanelette jamies underneath DD loves it!!!
We have just progressed to putting a small quilt over her and for the most part she stays underneath it but if not it doesn't matter cause she's all covered anyway.
