Moving DD from Bassinette to Cot

    Hi All,

Avaleigh has been sleeping in her bassinette since we have gotten back from hospital. I have started putting her in her cot this week, during the day so she can get used to her 'big bed' but every time I put her in there, she wakes up!

Avaleigh doesnt sleep much through the day but she normally sleeps a little bit after our 7am feed.

Could she be waking up because the bed is a lot bigger and it all feels different? Is there any way I can get her to be more comfy/snuggly so maybe she will sleep?? Or do I just need to keep putting her in there to get used to it?

I guess the issue here is that she doesnt normally sleep during the day due to her colic/reflux but hopefully that will change soon when we see a paed.

I too am making the transition during the day.....do you wrap your little one?? I think as long as she feels snug, it might just take a couple of days for her to get used to it. There are those thingys () that you can nestle bubbies in - a horse shoe shape pillow type thing (wow, I'm articulate aren't I?? ) - she just might still want that cocoon type feeling.

The other thought is do you have a mobile?? Coz maybe she might need to lay in the cot for some playtime just to get used to it's bigness and then either you let her fall off to sleep on her own or you get her ready for nap time like you would normally do and then just lay her back down. And last thought.......maybe try the same time each day just to keep the transition consistent....

It is a trial and error thing that might take a little bit to do but don't hurry it, she'll click on before you know it! HTH

You could alsoget one of those snuggle beds. Its a big rectangle with 4 sides.

I have one of those snuggle beds, I borrowed it off my sister, its called a safe sleeper. Jensen wont sleep in the cradle, so he sleeps in the safesleeper in the cradle. We'll be using it in the cot when he first goes in there (in a few months) so he can get used to the size of the cot. HTH!

Veronica, she just might need more time. Neither of my boys had a problem with the transition but then they both loved the extra room. You could try putting her bassinet sheet in there with her for a familiar feel and smell. Or try putting the bassinet in the cot first to get her used to the surroundings. I don't think that it will take her long to get used to it. Especially once you get the other issues under control. Best of luck with it, you're doing a great job.

Phoebe was 4 months old before we put her in the cot and if she hadnt learnt how to make the cradle rock herself she would have been in there longer. She is now in the cot in a tetra snuggle bed and we've had no probs with her and the transition

    Hi Veronica,
Ethan has been sleeping in his cot since he came home from the hospital, so i haven't had to think about the transition from bassinet to cot. I have a safe and sound anti roll pillow thing, so dont know if that will help you or not but it makes them feel like they are being cuddled too.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!!

I've tried putting Avaleigh in her cot a few times, she is asleep when I put her down but wakes about 5 minutes later!! So it seems she does not like it, or maybe she likes sleeping near us?? But she cant sleep in her bassinette forever!!

I am planning to put the bassinette in the cot and put her in there until she gets used to her surroundings and then try and get her to sleep with out it. If that is still not working I will look in to getting one of those safe sleepers.

I didnt think she wouldnt like it! I thought that she would love the room, but she loves to be all snuggling and cuddled.
