Pierced Ears?

My sisters ex partner and his mother took my niece when she was 8 months and got her ears pierced behind my sisters back.
It caused murder tbh.
She kept them in and they do look adorable but Laura would have waited until Anaiis was older.
I think speak to your dh and discuss it 1st.
I had mine done at 2 and I don't wear earrings much anymore but they are still open so I can put them in whenever. xx

both my DDs where done before they where 4 months and we have no problems at all. DD1 has just started to ask for different earings in as she has had plain sleepers in for ages but now wants ones like mine
DH took both girls in whilst I hid in the shop next door and both times the girls where fine by the time he came into me

i had mine done when i was 3 i think, i dont wear any now, but always had them in.
my sister got hers done at 9 months i think she was, i remember her crying for a little bit loke 10 secconds, mum gave her a doughnut and she was fine, if they have sleepers in it wont annoy them at night.
i remember having my nose done at 11, my step dad was against it, but once it was done, he didnt say much after that, (my sister is now 12 and wants hers done, he went APE! so she hasnt got one yet)

i dunno...i'll go against the grain here & say i don't really like it on little kids (i've seen little girls & boys with it done). my mum asked me to wait until i'd finished school & i did - i wasn't really into piercing before then & my school was really strict on what sort of earrings you could have. i have no problem with piercings in general - i have 7 ear piercings & have retired another 4 body/ear piercings in the last couple of years.

i know it's tempting wouldn't do it behind your DP's back, i reckon it'd just cause unecessary stress!

I've been pierced with a gun and also with needles. Let me say needles hurt SO MUCH MORE!!! I much prefer the gun because it's quick and the pain disappears quickly, too. When you get it "pierced" with needles they stick the needle in you first, then pull it out and then put the stud in! Ohhh the agony! With the gun they shoot in the stud straight away, so once it's in you don't have to fiddle around with it for a while.

I had my ears pierced when I was 3 or 4. It didn't really hurt me. But personally I would wait until they ask to get it done. That way they won't be unhappy about it later on IYKWIM.

Sorry but disagree completely in my experience (multiple body/ear piercings) the gun hurts more and takes longer to heal, there is also the noise from it which can scare some kids. The person operating the gun is usually under trained and has no idea about proper placement.

oh and I forgot, the needle they use should be hollow so once pushed through the earring will be inserted into the needle and pulled through as the needle is withdrawn.

I agree, the noise might scare some kids! I was prepared, so I knew it would be loud and it didn't bother me. Maybe things are different in Australia, but back home (Germany) they do use qualified people to do piercings. I had mine done at the doctor's office, but I don't know what they do here. I agree, be careful where you get it done, you don't want to get any infections! Maybe the needle hurt me more, because it took longer? No idea, it was just my personal experience. I think I just like to get it over asap. I have had a few friends who got their ear piercings shot and they where not placed properly! So I reckon using a needle might place the piercing more accurately? I think it's all down to personal preference, really

Forgot to add: It is also important not to hit one of the acupuncture points in your ear. They hurt waaayyy more! The doctor who did my piercing new where the spots are and avoided them, which meant less pain for me

TACKY is not a word id use, it sounds very immature to me when we are talking about LITTLE GIRLS.

I personally would wait until DD is old enough to ask to have them, old enough for good judgement (that is weigh up the pain, chance of infections, etc against having earrings) and also old enough to have stopped growing. I had to wait until I was 13 before getting my ears done so that my most of my growing was finished and I understood the pros and cons.

Some girls don't ever want their ears pierced. I would hate to force that on someone.

Personally I'm not a fan and I don't want to do anything to my girls until they are ready and they ask. I was 12 when I got mine done and it was my "gift" for finishing primary school. I am glad I waited as it made me appreciate them and it is something special to me. I would like that for my daughters too.

Also I would never do something like that without consulting DP - he would be angry and extremely hurt. With anything like that where it is something special or a "first" he wants to be there to be a part of it.
