I think a flexible sole is really important, and no shoes unless they really need them! When trying them on just make sure she is standing up so you can feel where her toe is. I usually go for cheaper shoes at Target/Kmart but ones that are still leather if I can. I went to a podiatrist for DD a few years ago and he said they don't have to have the most expensive shoes but as long as sandals have a front bit that support and cover their toes and a full heel support rather than just a strap is important as they learn to walk and that is it. Good luck I would just look around for soft flexible soles that look cute too Ebay is good for finding bargains as well seeing as they grow out of them so fast as well.
